At last night’s Golden Globes, we got to ogle at stars in more-expensive-than-your-house gowns and hotter-than-any-guy-we’ve-ever-seen-at-the-mall dates. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were, in my opinion, hilarious and the right chicks for the gig.
From what I watched (I went to bed a little early because I like sleep more than finding out who won Best Director) everything went smoothly and wasn’t that boring. However, there were some cringe-worthy moments.
So instead of talking about who everyone was wearing, I want to relive the awkward!
Awkward Moment #1:
Poehler’s Dig at Cameron
When introducing nominees during their monologue, Amy Poehler talked about Best Director nominee, Kathryn Bigelow’s director ex-husband. Her exact quote: “When it comes to torture, I trust the lady who was married to James Cameron for three years.”
Yes it was funny, but I wouldn’t want someone bringing up my failed marriage in front of millions of people.
Awkward Moment #2
Cohen’s Panty-Less Hathaway Joke
“I’m pulling back the iron curtain. And no, I’m not talking about Anne Hathaway’s up the skirt shot.”
So, I didn’t know this until I saw Anne on the Today Show, but evidently, she pulled a Britney and went somewhere without undies. When she got out of her car, the paparazzi snapped photos of her girlfriend. When Matt Lauer asked her about it in their interview, it totally looked like sweet girl was about to cry. Made me want to smack Lauer’s bald head. She had said she wanted to forget it and move on. So when her costar made a joke about it, on the night she won for Best Supporting Actress, I thought it was a little over the line.
Awkward Moment #3
Megan Fox and Jonah Hill’s “Witty Banter”
One of the things I hate about award shows is when presenters try to be funny/improvise. It usually ends up being a train wreck. Case in point, Megan Fox and Jonah Hill. Without any kind of set up, the two walk out and Megan says, “Why didn’t you call me?” Jonah tries to be funny, but fails miserably (kind of like the last 45 minutes of 21 Jump Street) and you could just hear the crickets chirping.
Awkward Moment #4
Tommy Lee Jones is not Impressed
Unlike the Fox/Hill mash-up, the Wiig/Ferrell presenter pairing was so funny! However, there was a look-away-from-the-TV-moment where you can’t help but feel embarrassed for the folks on stage. When they started talking about Hopes Springs—the comedy starring Meryl Streep—and panned over to one of the stars, Tommy Lee Jones was not amused. Cue the wrap up music and nervous laughter.
