In Case You Don’t Follow Me on Goodreads…

(My internet was down yesterday, so no blog; womp, womp. This means that Try It Tuesday will probably be a Try It Wednesday. So yesterday’s blog is now today’s. Confused? Me too.)

As a new mom, I really don’t have time for much else besides breastfeeding, changing diapers, and getting sleep when I can. As the weeks have gone on, though, I’m starting to fall into somewhat of a routine and find little spaces of time to do the things I like: exercise, take a shower (it’s amazing how that is now my “solace time”; I understand what moms on Facebook are talking about now!), and yes, even read!

I’ve had friends, sisters, and cousins recommending books to me for a while now and I’ve finally been able to start!

I just started reading The Giver by Lois Lowry.

Every time my sister recommended it to me, I confused it with this book. Mostly because its written by the same author and the cover art is similar. Anyway, I digress.

So, I’m only on chapter 11 of the book and I LOVE it! Its a dystopian novel (kind of a mix between 1984, Matched, Divergent, and Brave New World) about a boy named Jonas. In Jonas’s society, everything is meticulously planned and choreographed. At age 12, all the children are given their Assignment; what they will do as their career. Jonas isn’t sure what his Assignment will be. He doesn’t feel as though he shows an aptitude for anything. At the ceremony where he is to receive his Assignment, Jonas is shocked to find out where he is assigned.

I won’t spoil anything for you (especially since I haven’t finished the book so I don’t really know how the book ends) but I won’t ruin the stuff I do know. Its really good far. Its an easy read and the chapters are short, which is great because I hate stopping mid-chapter. When I finish the book, I’ll be sure to give you guys a full review! But so far, its AWESOME.

Up next in my queue? The Fault in Our Stars

What are you reading?
