Try It Tuesday

Ugh, its been yet another day of freezing temps and icy roads. SO. SICK. OF. THIS.

Because of the wintery weather, I decided to really treat myself this Try It Tuesday.  I thought of what three things I love to divulge in. It wasn’t that difficult to come up with the list: chocolate, cookies, and bacon. Enter: chocolate chip bacon cookies!

The recipe is pretty much like any other chocolate chip recipe, with the added magic of chopped bacon!

Here’s what you need:

For the candied bacon:

~8 slices center cut thick bacon

~1/2 cup brown sugar

For the cookies:

~1 cup flour

~1/2 teaspoon baking soda

~1/2 cup shortening

~1/2 cup white sugar

~1/4 cup brown sugar

~1 tsp vanilla extract

~1 egg

~1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

~3/4 tsp salt

First, I preheated the oven to 350 degrees. I used microwave bacon, so the instructions for my cookies will be different than the original recipe in the link above. I placed the microwave bacon on a paper towel and sprinkled brown sugar on top.

Then I microwaved the bacon for about 20 seconds.

After that, I let them set and mixed up the ingredients for the chocolate chip cookies.

I creamed the shortening, white sugar, and brown sugar with the vanilla and egg.

Then I added flour, salt, soda, and chocolate chips until combined.

I chopped up the bacon and then rolled the cookie dough into balls with the bacon.

I popped them in the oven for about 11 minutes and let the sweet aroma of bacon and chocolate permeate the kitchen.

OH YEAH. They were good! I really liked them! My mom said, “Hmm… they’re different.” She ate two, so I’m thinking that means they’re good different, ha!
