Since today is the Chinese New Year, I thought a great way to celebrate would be to highlight the life of an amazing Chinese woman*!
Soong Ching-ling, or Song Qingling, was a intragul piece in establishing the Republic of China and is often referred to as the “Mother of Modern China”.
When the Sino-Japanese War broke out in 1937, Song organized the China Defense League, offering medical and child welfare help to those in need (especially in the communist-controlled areas of China). When the People’s Republic of China was established in 1949, she had very many positions in the new government, including Vice President of China and created administrations to provide the people of China with healthcare and education.
*I know some people may think that Song should not be highlighted On Her’s Day Thursday because she was a Communist. But Song worked hard to bring medical care, food, clean water, and hope to women and children throughout China. She was a proponent of women’s rights and worked hard to make her home country a better place to live.
