Mommy Monday

Mommy Monday2

When I was pregnant with Huff the Tot (Hermione had to pass along Huff the Babe for the new kid) I was nervous about EVERYTHING. Was I going to be a good mom? Was I eating the right things? Would I be able to juggle motherhood and working and being a wife while also maintaining my self? There were so many “what ifs” and doubts running through my mind. After all, it was my first time doing this.

Then, I heard a song that really spoke to me. This one:

The very first few lines made me realize she and I are in it together. We can do this. So it became my pregnancy anthem.

This time, I feel more confident (though, I still have some “what if” moments). I’m so excited for our new little peanut and the relationship she or he will have with their big sister.

I have been keeping How I Met Your Mother on in the background while I’ve been working and the other day I watched the episode, The Magician’s Code and heard a beautiful song. It has now become my {second} pregnancy anthem:

Fan Girl Friday!

Happy Friday, peeps! I cannot believe that August is almost over! That means cooler weather, pumpkin-flavored everything, and oh yes, school supplies are in bloom!

What better way to kick off the new school year than with an awesome Harry Potter-themed classroom?

Harry Potter Classroom

I’m not only super proud of Mrs. Stephens from James L. Capps Middle School for inspiring her eighth graders to read, but also that she’s reppin’ my hometown! Her magical classroom is full of HP-related décor that is sure to bewitch her students! Click here for more pictures!

And speaking of the Boy Who Lived, the makeup geniuses over at LA Splash Cosmetics now has Harry Potter-themed lipsticks!

Harry Potter Lipstick

Personally, I think I’ll go for the Nymphadora or Lovegood shades. They fit my skin tone best. But I’d LOVE to rock the Bellatrix. After all, everyone loves a rebel, Harry!

Since I’ve got Baby #2 bakin’ in my belly oven, my skin has decided to act like I’m 15 again by breaking out and going haywire. It really makes you feel less like a hero and more like the scary villain. But, thanks to these super hero facial masks, I can beautify my skin and feel like I just saved the world!

Avengers masks

These officially licensed Marvel face masks are made by the Japanese company Isshin-do Honpo. They work just like normal beauty masks you pick up from the drugstore for an at-home facial!

I don’t buy dress clothes too often. Mostly because working from home means my standard “work outfit” includes my Harley Quinn sweatpants and my favorite race t-shirt. But Think Geek has me totally rethinking my wardrobe!

STar Wars skirt

Seriously, how a-DORK-able is this Star Wars skirt? Not only does this skirt have an epic fight scene, but there are pockets. Yes, POCKETS. Feel free to squeal with delight. I’ll wait.

Happy fangirling!

Her’s Day Thursday

hersday thursday2

Women’s Equality Day was yesterday, celebrating the anniversary of the day women earned the right to vote back on August 26, 1920. You know who we have to thank for that? These women!

Susan B. Anthony

frdo1057_susan_b_anthony

A leader in the suffragist movement, Susan fought hard for women’s rights as well as the abolition of slavery.

Antoinette Brown Blackwell

Antoinette-Brown

Antoinette was a co-founder of the American Woman Suffrage Association!

Lillian Feickert

Lillian-Ford-Feickert

Lillian served as the President of the New Jersey Woman Suffrage Association and later ran for Congress!

True, we have come a long way from organizing petitions and handing out leaflets to promote the right to vote for women. However, this infographic from Time.com shows we still have a ways to go, especially with getting more women involved in government. So let’s encourage each other, fellow ladies, and those young women coming up after us to pursue our dreams, reach for the stars, and know that we can be absolutely ANYTHING we want to be and make a difference for the better in this world!

What’s The Deal?

With prepping for new baby, dealing with morning sickness, and general everyday stuff, its been hard to keep on my blogging. I forgot to do a Try It yesterday and I thought about skipping today because I wasn’t really in the mood to write. Then, my news app blew up.

FullSizeRender (5)

Early this morning, I saw the news about a gunman opening fire during a live news broadcast. The gunman, later identified as a former employee of the news station, killed a reporter and camerman and injured one other before taking his own life.

In Oklahoma, we’ve seen a rough week. Our Labor Commissioner was brutally murdered by his own son at an Oklahoma City restaurant.

Just a few moments ago, a man broke into a church–a church– on the northeast side of town.

And yesterday, a student held a teacher and a classroom of students hostage. Thankfully, the teacher talked the student down and convinced him to let his hostages go.

I just don’t understand why the world has gone so crazy. It makes my heart ache to think of the world that I’m bringing Huff the Babe up in as well as her younger brother or sister. When I was growing up, I don’t remember the world being this crazy. Maybe it was and I wasn’t so aware of it as I am now, but it scares me sometimes. It scares me so bad that there are times I lie awake at night and imagine all the horrors that tomorrow could bring. I mean, my brother-in-law is in the military, Huff the Hubs works with the military, and my mom and sister work at a school. I feel like these places that were once safe are now full of horrible possibilities and are constantly in the news because someone decided to go on a rampage and hurt innocent people. I fear, not only for my future, but my children’s future.

Then, I remembered this:

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.
2 Timothy 1:7 (AMP)

Now, I can boldly look toward the future and know that, no matter what happens, it’ll be okay. I know that not everyone is a “praying person” or a “spiritual person”, but I hope that you can be comforted by these words, too. I also hope that you’ll join me in praying for our nation. America was once a great place and I’d like it to continue to be for future generations.

Mommy Monday

Mommy Monday3

When I was pregnant with Huff the Babe (I’m probably going to have to start calling her something else when this Little Peanut comes, huh?) I know I had morning sickness. But now, looking back, I can’t really remember it. Maybe it’s because I blocked it out. Or maybe I just can’t remember because the space in my memory that once held onto morning sickness memories has now been overtaken by theme songs to various children’s programming (thanks a lot, Tayo.) Either way, I don’t remember being this miserable.

Mommy Monday Morning Sickness Choke on Vomit

Granted, the morning sickness didn’t kick in full swing until 2 ½ weeks ago. And, at first, it was very light nausea. I’d eat something and it’d go away. Then I got the stomach bug and prayed for the Rapture.

All I want to do is complain 24/7 about how awful I feel, but I feel like I can’t. Some reasons are for others (i.e., no one wants to be around a Whiny Wally all the time and I know many women who would love to have morning sickness but can’t because of a variety of reasons). Some reasons, however, are because I don’t want to hear what other people have to say in response.

Mommy Monday Morning Sickness Irritated

Yes, I know that my morning sickness means the baby is doing well and is healthy and I totally get that. I want my Little Bean to be healthy. But I also want to feel like a human so I can get stuff done. It’s so difficult to work when you’d rather be sleeping and doing chores while feeling like you may vom is pretty much the modern woman’s torture.

Mommy Monday Morning Sickness

Every smell, odor, and scent is like a gut-punch. Even the stuff that once smelled good (lasagna, chocolate cake, coffee) makes you feel like you just rode The Texas Giant 12 times in a row without stopping.

*Raises glass of Sprite*

So here’s to the momma’s, both old and new, that have suffered with the debilitating morning sickness. Here’s to the women that breathe through their mouths as they walk through the breakroom at work so as not to smell their coworker’s stinky food. Here’s to the women that, rather than go on their lunch break, take a nap in their car and pay a cleaning service (or a family member) to scrub the bathroom. Here’s to the women that are so overcome with nausea and exhaustion during that first trimester that you turn on Doc McStuffins for your toddler so you can sleep on the couch. You are my tribe and I salute you.

*Takes a sip of Sprite and immediately feels nauseous*

Y’all, Hot Topic has been getting my money so much lately, I’m pretty sure I pay the light bill there. And they’re about to get some more! Show the world how much you and your Whovian bestie mean to each other with this!

Fan Girl Friday Tardis best Friend Necklace

This necklace is a Hot Topic exclusive and is absolutely a-DORK-able! (Bestie, I know you’re reading this, but try to forget you saw this until Christmastime, mmkay?)

There’s been a slight chill air lately in Oklahoma (I mean, the temperature was BELOW 85! Its basically winter up in the place!) and I’ve been thinking about cold-weather clothing. Thankfully, Think Geek has my back with a geeky, cozy sweater:

Fan Girl Friday Star Wars Sweater

Seriously, I’m totally about rocking this bad boy when I go see The Force Awakens this winter! (Besides, it’s much warmer than a Princess Leia costume!)

Y’all, last week was brutal. What with me having a stomach virus ON TOP of morning sickness, Huff the Hubs really earned his stripes in taking care of me and Huff the Babe. He has truly been my hero! And, to show him how awesome he’s been, I think I may send him this:

Fan Girl Friday Hero For A Day

This way, he can totally feel like the hero he is! (And look totally ripped without having to work out, ha!)

Happy fangirling!

Try It Tuesday

try it tuesday new

Hey guys, now that I’m no longer feeling like an extra from The Walking Dead, I have a brand-spanking new Try It for you today! This Try It is actually one my sister did (because I was incapacitated).

They’re mini pancake bites!

Here’s what you need:

~Your favorite pancake batter

~Your favorite pancake fillings (we used chocolate chips and blueberries)

Preheat your oven to 350°. Mix the pancake batter according to your favorite batter’s requirements (we used Bisquick) as well as ¼ cup syrup. Spray a muffin tin with nonstick spray (we used a mini muffin tin) and fill 2/3 of the way full.

Then, add in your favorite fillings:

Pop them in the oven and bake for about 15 minutes and then serve!

These were a HUGE hit! Huff the Babe actually ate ALL of her breakfast (something that only happens if we serve doughnuts) and I didn’t feel guilty about giving her more because I knew what was in them. Plus, there were so many that I could save them and have a quick and easy breakfast ready for her. These were AWESOME and I will DEFINITELY have my sister make them again–ha!
