Mommy Monday

Mommy Monday3

Happy Monday, y’all! Its back to work and the usual grind now that Thanksgiving and Black Friday are nothing but a distant memory. Womp, womp.

I’ve already got my Christmas decor up and I’m super excited for the holiday season. I made a point to get all of my shopping done early because I really want to be able to enjoy Christmas activities with my family. I know that this time of year can be stressful, especially for us moms.

Not only do we have the regular stuff to take care of (kids, work, house) but the majority of us also do all the present shopping, wrapping, and prepping for company (i.e., making the house look like no one lives there so people will think you live in an immaculate house everyday.)

While scrolling through Facebook yesterday I saw this article by It was all signs that you have forgotten to take care of yourself. And, if you haven’t taken care of yourself, you can’t effectively take care of other people.

Mommy Monday Mommy Needs a Break

I thought that Parents had some good advice on how to unwind and relax, but I also have a few tips that help me unwind that won’t break the bank!

Go to Target by yourself.

Never underestimate the power of walking around a store leisurely without a child in a cart. Think of all the things you can look at! You could actually try on clothes! You can read magazines! You can even go down the candy aisle without dragging a screaming child when you refuse to buy anything! Plus, they have a Starbucks!

Spend $10 and get a mini massage from those folks at the mall.

I LOVE getting massages! They are basically the greatest thing since pedicures. But, let’s face it, we don’t all have time to book an appointment and drop $50 to get a head-to-toe massage. This is why I love those little kiosks at the mall. You can spend $10 and get a ten-minute refreshing massage! You can even spend less and pop a few bucks into those massaging chairs!

Take a bubble bath and watch Netflix.

I love bubble baths. I also love binge-watching. But, having a toddler doesn’t allow much time to partake in these activities. Generally, after Huff the Tot goes to sleep, I use that time to clean up, fold laundry, or work on projects. But the other day I put those on the back burner and took a bubble bath, set up the iPad to watch Jessica Jones on Netflix and just relaxed.

Get a shake/coffee, go to the library, and surf Pinterest.

Mommy Monday Ice Cream

If you just want an hour of unimpeded quiet, pop by a coffee shop or Chick-Fil-A (they have an AWESOME Cookies and Cream shake!) go to the library and surf Pinterest (or Facebook or Instagram) on your phone. Its quiet, they have WiFi and comfy chairs, and its free!

These things may sounds silly, but they help. And if you can get a little more you time, you’ll be amazed at how your relationships with your kiddos and your husband will improve. Huff the Hubs is pretty good and seeing when I’m getting wound too tight. That’s when he says, “Why don’t you go to Sonic?” or “Go to our room and I’ll watch the kid.” When I come back, I’m typically in a much better mood (that is, unless he’s let HtT run amok and destroy everything!)

What about you? What do you do to unwind? Do you remember to take regular breaks? Share n the comments below!
