Her’s Day Thursday

hersday thursday4

Happy Thursday! We’re one day closer to Friday! And that’s not the only good news.

Remember when we were little girls and played with our Barbies that looked like this:

And then as we got older we started to think, “Hmm… maybe should look like that. After all, there’s not really a doll out there that looks like me.

At least, that’s what I thought. Don’t get me wrong; I think Barbie is a great toy and I absolutely LOVED dressing mine up and acting out plays with them. I also really like that Barbie has had 130 different careers, showing girls that anything is possible! However, I do think there’s room for improvement. And that’s why I was so excited when I read an article from The Telegraph!

“Mattel has revealed, as a new range includes three optional body shapes – petite, tall and curvy – as well as seven different skin tones and 24 hair styles.”

Mattel has decided to add new dolls to their Barbie line! There will be three new body shapes as well as new skin tones and hairstyles! How exciting is that?! Now little girls everywhere can find a Barbie that looks like them! I truly think this was an awesome move for Mattel.

Hey y’all!

Its been a while since I’ve done a Writer Wednesday. I know you’re all clamoring for it. My inbox is practically FULL of requests from followers simply begging me to regale them with some of my awesome writing.

While scrolling through Pinterest (or was it Facebook? Ugh, I don’t remember…) I saw this and thought it would be a great WW prompt!

Here’s what I came up with:

She sneezed applying mascara.

Ha! Okay, okay, that wasn’t the real one. But every girl can totally relate, right?

He never returned again.

What would your sad story say? Its a lot tougher than it looks! Tell me in the comments below!

As you all know, I’m trying really hard to be as healthy as I can whilst growing the little nerdling in my tummy. I try to eat fresh fruits and veggies a much as I can, but some days I need something besides an apple or banana. Enter, two new products!

First up, Sargento Fast Breaks!

Try It Sargento

These awesome little containers come with cheese (protein) and either almonds and cranberries (protein and fiber) or cashews and raisins! They come three to a pack and I got ’em for less than $3 each! They are SO good! And with only 190 calories (not that I’m really counting calories too much right now) they make a GREAT snack! I highly recommend these!

Next I tried Chobani’s new Flip flavor: PB&J!

Try It Yogurt

Its strawberry yogurt with peanut butter crunchies and little granola bits! This was SO good! I actually ate it as a dessert the other day! I love the chocolate almond version, so I’m super happy that I like this one too! Another one of their new flavors was Sriacha Mango! That was a little too out there for me, lol.

Have you tried these yet? What did you think? Do you have any snacks that you’d recommend to the readers? Share in the comments below!

Mommy Monday

Mommy Monday New Banner

I’m officially 30 weeks pregnant. Well, 30 weeks and 1 day according to my Ovia Pregnancy App. And holy crap, I feel like I’m 43 weeks pregnant. (Yes; I know the gestation for humans is 40 weeks; THAT should tell you how miserable I feel.)

Mommy Monday Uncofrtable

I mean, when you’re carrying a little “love goblin”, as Mila Kunis so eloquently put it, it takes a toll on your body. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. And sometimes I feel like not everyone gets it.

Mommy Monday No Uterus No Opinion

The changes to your body alone are pretty drastic and, at times, terrifying.

Mommy Monday Internal Organs GIF

The past few weeks have been especially hard for me. I seriously feel like my stomach cannot stretch anymore. Its beyond uncomfortable. When you’re hot or cold, you can take off your jacket or put on a sweater. But how do you get comfortable when its your own body making you feel that way? Don’t get me wrong, I love my babies with everything that’s in me. But dang, its hard work bringing them into this world!

Delivery Jim Pam The Office

So if you see an expecting momma, please don’t say things like, “Oh, I bet you’re ready!” or “Whoa! Goodness girl, how long do you have left?” Give her a hug (or a candy bar) and tell her that’s she’s awesome.

This has been a rather stressful week. Between Huff the Tot getting sick and letting me and Huff the Hubs get ZERO sleep and HtH car breaking down, I’ve been on edge all week. But, HtT is feeling better, there’s chili in the crockpot, and I’ve got some aDORKable finds for you!

I LURVE Tsum Tsums. If you don’t know what they are, click here and get ready to squeal! They’re so cute! Now, get ready to squeal even MORE when you see that there are now Star Wars versions of the pint-size plushies!

Jabba the Hut and Boba Fett don’t look as menacing when they’re shrunk down and stuffed!

Scrolling through Pinterest is basically my favorite way to fall asleep and ever since we’ve bought our house, I’ve been looking at cool new ways to decorate. And after seeing this, I want to redo Hermione’s room!

Fan Girl Friday Dad builds fairytale room

A father built his little girl the ULTIMATE fairy tale bedroom! Check out that tree! The project took a little over 18 months and came with a bill near $5,000. Honestly, I think my dad could do this!

magazine has been posting awesome videos of actors and actresses performing scenes from popular/classic films and the results are AWESOME. In this video, Bradley Cooper and friends act out one of my favorite scenes from the movie Clueless!

I think Seth Rogen was my fave! They have other videos, including this one in which famous folks act out scenes from Gone With the Wind!

With it being so cold out, I’ve been in the mood for comfort food. And nothing says comfort food like a meal in the crockpot that’s creamy and filling! I perused Pinterest and found a yummy recipe: Slow Cooker Italian Chicken!

Here’s what you need:

Try It Italian Chicken (5)

~4 chicken breasts (not pictured)

~1 Italian dressing seasoning packet (I really wanted to get Hidden Valley’s packet, but I couldn’t find it!)

~1/2 cup water

~1 (8 oz) block of cream cheese

~1 can cream of chicken soup

~2/3 cup water

~Rice (or noodles; it doesn’t really matter)

First, place your chicken in the crockpot and season with the Italian dressing packet. Add 1/2 cup water and let it cook, covered, for 4 hours on low. (The reason those chicken breasts look so piddly is because the Chicken Breast bags and the Chicken Tenderloin bags look almost identical. And, guess which bag this pregnant-brained momma grabbed? Yep.)

Try It Italian Chicken (1)

When the chicken is cooked, shred it with a fork or do it the fun and easy way and use a hand mixer!

Try It Italian Chicken (2)

Add in the cream cheese, chicken soup, and 2/3 cup water. Mix well and let it cook for another 30 minutes.
Try It Italian Chicken (3)

Then, serve with your favorite veggie and rice!

Try It Italian Chicken (4)

Huff the Hubs and I both really liked this! My only complaint was that I didn’t add enough chicken (surprise, surprise). I’m DEFINITELY making this again because it was SUPER easy! Plus, you can save time by cooking and shredding the chicken a few days before!

Fan Girl Friday Background

Its official: we’re halfway through January. And, already so much has happened! I couldn’t bring myself to write a blog post yesterday because I was so torn up about the passing of Alan Rickman. Though I bleed the red and gold of Gryffindor House, I think we can all say that, right now, we’re all Slytherins.

The passing of such a great actor and the man we’ve all come to love as he portrayed one of the most misunderstood characters in the HP universe, has really left a hole in so many people’s hearts.

Yesterday, at Harry Potter World in Florida, fans showed their grief in beautiful ways. A large group banded in front of the Hogwarts ride, wands held high.

And inside, a single lily was placed outside of Snape’s potion’s classroom:

Rest in peace, Alan. We will always remember you.

Now, I’d like to switch gears and show you some delightfully dorky deals I’ve found to brighten your mood!

Over at The Geeky Hostess, there’s not only recipes but there’s also one-of-a-kind finds sure to bring a smile to your face! Like this ah-may-zing three-pack of fandom teas!

Geeky-Hostess-Tea-Combo HP Firefly Doctor Who

The 3-pack includes Mechanic’s Blend (Firefly), Doctor’s Blend (Doctor Who), and Lion’s Blend (Gryffindor/Harry Potter)! I’m a part of all three fandoms so this is PERF for me! (Hint, hint, Huff the Hubs!)

Huff the Tot hasn’t worn bibs in a loooooong time (though, she–and I–probably should!). But soon, we’ll be adding to our brood and we’ll need to dig those things out of storage. But, I think I may buy a few of these, just to keep those meal time messes humorous:

Travelling Sideshow Bibs

These silly sideshow bibs not only protect the kiddo from messes, but also help you have pictures that will no doubt embarrass them in the future! Its a win-win! Ha!

Even though I work from home, I know how it can be working in an office. Some days, you just do NOT want to make small talk with people. And, there’s really no way to let people know this without coming off as a jerk. So let your mug do the talking for you!

Mixed Messages Mug

This mug from Fred Flare comes with re-positionable letters so you can let your coworkers know when you’ve finally had enough coffee to make it through 10 minutes of chit-chat!

Try It Tuesday

Try It Tuesday Cooking Badge

As you may remember, I have been looking for new recipes to add to our repertoire to help us not eat the “same ole, same ole”. I’ve been trying to find easy and healthy recipes as well, to help with the post-baby “I don’t want to cook tonight” feelings I know will set in after Huff the Babe is born. I found this recipe on Pinterest and figured I might as well try it out! Enter, cheesy chicken broccoli casserole.

Here’s what you need:

Try It Broccoli Cass (2)

~3 cups cubed chicken (not pictures)
~16 oz bag of frozen broccoli
~1 med onion diced (or about 1 cup frozen; that’s what I used!)
~2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
~1 tsp garlic powder
~1 cube chicken bouillon (or 1 tsp bouillon powder)
~1/2 cup water (this was optional; I didn’t add it in)
~1 Tbsp olive oil
~1/4 tsp pepper
~1/4 c sour cream
~1 cup ricotta cheese

First, grease your casserole pan and preheat the oven to 350. In a medium to large frying pan, add broccoli, onion, chicken bouillon, water, olive oil and pepper and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Try It Broccoli Cass (3)

In a medium/large bowl, combine the chicken, garlic powder, sour cream and ricotta cheese. Mix until well blended.

Try It Broccoli Cass (4)

When the 10 minutes are up for the veggies on the stovetop, pour them into the bowl with the chicken and cheeses. Mix well.

Try It Broccoli Cass (1)

Pour the mixture into your casserole pan and add the rest of the mozzarella cheese.

Then, bake for 50-60 minutes!

I liked this recipe okay; Huff the Hubs LOVED it. He said he wants me to make it again. I don’t know… I wasn’t as convinced. I can’t really put my finger on it, but it just wasn’t my fave. It was fairly easy to make, though and full of green veggies and lean proteins! I’m wondering if it could be considered “low carb” since there’s no rice or anything in it. I mean, its basically just chicken, cheeses, and broccoli!

Mommy Monday

Mommy Monday3

When I was pregnant with Huff the Tot, I experienced “pregnant brain” firsthand. I figured it was coming when I got pregnant with Huff the Babe. What I wasn’t prepared for was how “second pregnancy  pregnant brain” does NOT hold a candle to “first pregnancy pregnant brain“.

Seriously, y’all. I forget stuff ALL. THE. TIME.

Mommy Monday Pregnant Brain

I’ve found myself calling people the wrong names, asking “Where is my phone?!” when it’s in my hand, and even forgetting my last name. (No joke. I had to sign a receipt the other day and stopped short when it came to write, ‘Huffman’.)

I know I’m not alone in this. My sister actually left the house one day in slippers and didn’t realize it until she got to the zoo–45 minutes away! When I came across this article on Buzzfeed the other day, I knew I had to share with all my preggo and Momma friends. Take a look, laugh, and try not to forget why you’re laughing.
