Try It Tuesday

We all know I love trying new products, especially if they can help me (somewhat) stay on track with my healthy eating/weight loss goals. I found two new goodies this week at the grocery store and I can’t wait to share them with you!

I’ve actually talked about one of these before. Sargento has a great line of snacks, Balanced Breaks, that have a small serving of cheese along with nuts and berries. But NOW the company has launched a spinoff with–oh yes–CHOCOLATE! They’re called Sweet Breaks and they come in a variety of flavors. This is the one I chose:

I really like the original and the new one did NOT disappoint! It was nice to have something sweet to offset the savory of the cheese and, at only 170 calories, it makes a great snack! These get an A+!

I know I’ve told you before that my all-time favorite dessert is cheesecake. I firmly believe that cheesecake was brought to this world as a gift from the heavens. Seriously. The only drawback is that it has so many calories. Womp, womp. That’s why when I saw this, I was SO. FREAKING. EXCITED.

These cheesecake cups come in at only 170 calories and there are no artificial flavors or dyes used in any of the four flavors! I couldn’t wait to give this a try!

This was…okay. I mean, it wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t the same as a piece of cheesecake (that would’ve been a miracle, actually). But it still satisfied my sweet tooth and kept me from pigging out on something else! I think next time I’ll crumble up a reduced fat graham cracker on top!

Mommy Monday

I’ve been off my game lately when it comes to blogging. And showering. And fixing my hair. And doing laundry. Why, you ask?

Kids.

Don’t get me wrong; I LOVE my kids. They are the reason I get up every day. (Literally. You can only pretend to be asleep for so long before your toddler knocks on the door, asking for chocolate milk.) But seriously, I love my kids with all my heart. They give me SO much joy! They also give me so many headaches. Because parenting is basically cleaning up after little dictators that push you super close to the edge of a cliff before swooping in and doing something so adorable that you forget all the crap they put you through. And then the next day it repeats.

To keep myself from going completely crazy, I like to read funny tweets from other parents to 1–let me know I’m not alone in this fight and 2–help me to laugh to keep from crying. I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you, because, I’m sure you need a giggle as well!

Fan Girl Friday!

Fan Girl Friday Background

Happy Friday, peeps! I know, I know… I’ve really been slacking on the blogging this week. With sickness infiltrating the Huffman Homestead at every turn, its been tough to get us back on our normal routine. Thankfully, all of us are on the uphill swing and I’m getting my shiz together so I can bring you more of the blog posts you’ve come to know and love. Well, maybe not love, but at least tolerate.

Let’s dive in to the nerdy nifties I’ve found for you this week!

Sometimes, being an adult is hard. Just the day-to-day responsibilities and duties that we have to fulfill can be a drag and you just want to feel like a kid again. Enter our first find, courtesy of Perpetual Kid:

Oh yes, you read that right: Chardonnay Cotton Candy! For those days when you want to feel like a kid again, but also sophisticated adult that drinks wine. There’s also beer-flavored,  birthday cake, and even bacon!

There was a debate this week at the Huffman Homestead as to which was better: Star Wars or Star Trek. Needless to say, things got pretty heated between me and Huff the Tot. I’ll always be hashtag Team The Force, but even I have to admit that Star Trek has some pretty cool tech. And its actually become a reality! Check out this exclusive from ThinkGeek:

Her’s Day Thursday

Y’all know that I am all about strong women and raising Huff the Tot to be a self-assured, hard-working, kind girl that turns into an amazing woman. This is why I try to find books and shows that highlight strong female characters. I am super excited because Nick Jr. just started a new show called Nella the Princess Knight!

nella

According to the Nickelodeon website, Nella “…isn’t your average princess, but she is a princess-knight — a hero unlike any who have come before her. Working with loyal knight Sir Garrett, his trusty steed Clod and glamorous unicorn Trinket, Nella breaks barriers, challenges expectations and fights for justice every time the group heads out on an adventure. No matter how tough of a challenge she faces, 8-year-old Nella always stays true to herself through her determination, power and courage. The preschool series features a social-emotional curriculum intended to foster relationship development and empower preschoolers to be courageous.”

I love this so much! I just wish we had cable so Huff the Tot could catch some of the episodes. (Come on, Netflix, help a momma out!) Just check out this teaser trailer:

The show debuted on February 6th and is on every morning at 9:00 a.m., CST!

Try It Tuesday

Ever since I caught wind of the new subscription box craze, I have wanted to start up a subscription. The problem was, there are so many and some can be crazy-expensive. Plus, I’m not really into makeup and I don’t collect anything (except Sonic straw wrappers, but that’s just under my driver’s seat–hey oh!) so I didn’t think I needed a subscription. If I spent a lot of money on something I didn’t use, I would just feel immense guilt that I wasted money. Then I heard Walmart did subscription boxes for $5! Ya girl was excited.

the-office

I subscribed on the website  and my first box came a few days ago! The boxes are sent once a season (every three months) and are filled with different beauty products (aka, not just makeup). Here’s what I got in my “winter” box:

My favorite thing (besides the coupons–what, what!) has to be the Curel lotion. My hands are hella-dry because I wash them about fifty times a day (because, diaper changes) and I don’t like to moisturize because my hands always feel slimy. But the Curel is great because it doesn’t feel greasy! It dries in seconds and my hands still feel smooth.

I also really like having trial size stuff around because, in Oklahoma, spring is a crazy time around here (see: tornadoes). My parents–thankfully–live only a 3-minute drive from us and have a storm cellar (we don’t). I like to have a “go bag” ready in ‘nader season, just in case we’re hunkered down for the night at my parents’ or, should things get really dicey, not have a place to come home to. Enter: trial size toiletries.

Fan Girl…Monday?

fan-girl-friday-lego-banner

Yes, yes, I know… Its not Friday. So why am I doing a Fan Girl Friday post? Well, last week was a tad bit hectic. I worked some extra days last week to make up for the day I missed with the oh-so-fun stomach bug so the kids were off their schedules (and their rockers!) so I didn’t get a whole lot done last week. Ergo, no FGF. But, with Valentine’s Day TOMORROW, I knew I had to share some geeky goodies for the fangirl (or boy!) in your life!

This adorable Beauty and the Beast sleep set from Hot Topic!

beauty-and-the-beast-cami

This set has various characters from the film including Mrs. Potts and Chip, but there is another sleep set with the Beast’s enchanted rose and two Alice in Wonderland sets!

Maybe you’re not looking forward to V-Day because you and Player Two recently called it quits. No worries! Perpetual Kid has exactly what you need!

breakup-kit

According to the PK site, this kit “offers maximum relief from soul-crushing, revenge-inspiring, self-pitying, and all-around unbearable heartache.” Each kit includes five affirmation cards, bandages, a heart pendant, bracelet, remedy booklet, and recovery certificate!

Want a gift that will make her saw awwww! ? Look no further than this squee-worthy Vinyl Pop of Lady and the Tramp!

lady-and-the-tramp

Not your gal’s style? Maybe your leading lady is a little less Disney and a little more DC? I gotchu.

Married men tend to think that their wives need a lot of fancy things–diamonds, expensive dinners, imported chocolates… But what we really want is for you to stop farting, pick up your mess, and let us sleep in. Which is why this G-Rated book titled, “Porn for Women” can be considered the married man’s guide to romance!

porn-for-women

The description of the book says it all: “Prepare to enter a fantasy world where clothes get folded just so, toilet seats are down, and flatulence is just not that funny.  Our G Rated book, Porn For Women, showcases beautiful photos of hunky men cooking, listening, and asking for directions.”

Happy fangirling, lovebirds!

Try It Tuesday

Y’all know I love to try new products, and I have found two new ones I can’t wait to share with you! One is on the healthy side and the other? Wellll…. not so much. Whoops.First up, a new twist on spaghetti!

When my family and I tried the Body for Life program about 8 years ago, we switched all of our pasta from the starchy, white noodles to whole grain. And, honestly, we couldn’t tell a difference. So when I saw these noodles at the store, I was hopeful:

img_1780

These non-GMO noodles are made with spinach, zucchini, broccoli, parsley, and kale–all GREAT for you greens! I was a little nervous that these noodles would have a distinctive taste…kale is basically spinach’s dirty, disgusting cousin after all. But I couldn’t even taste the greens! And actually, I was so caught up in enjoying my spaghetti, I forgot to take a pic of the cooked pasta!

My all-time favorite dessert is cheesecake. Because of this, whenever I see cheesecake-flavored anything I HAVE to try it! So when I spotted these at Walmart, they immediately went into the buggy!

img_1776

img_1777

These were… Okay. To me they were more white chocolate than cheesecake-y. I think I would have liked them better had there been some that had a graham cracker filling, just to break up the ultra-sweetness of the white chocolate flavor.
