Try It Tuesday

try it carpenter

I’ve been working on some projects around the house because, when you’re a SAHM, you look at the same stuff day after day and suddenly you get a wave of what I like to call “Joanna Gaines Fever” and you just HAVE to do some redecorating.

I’ve been looking for something to put in the kids’ bathroom because its just kind of bland. I bought an awesome shelf from Hobby Lobby (holla for clearance!) and I wanted a little somethin’ to go on it.

I knew exactly what I wanted but I didn’t know how to go about it. Enter: Pinterest. I found this link and it was EXACTLY what I was looking for!

Here’s what I used:

~A little wooden sign I picked up at Walmart

~glue stick

~cardstock

~freezer paper

~printer (not pictured)

~metal spoon (also not pictured because, Mommy Brain)

First, I cut out the freezer paper to fit my sheet of 8 1/2 by 11 cardstock. I glued the freezer paper to the cardstock with the waxy side out (this is very important).

Next, I thought of the quote I wanted on my sign. Then, I typed it up in Word and “mirror flipped” it.

Then I printed the quote and laid it gently on the wooden sign, praying it was lined up straight. Finally, I used the edge of a metal spoon and scraped the cardstock.

After a few minutes, I lifted the paper:

Meh.

I was hoping for better results. BUT, even though it didn’t turn out exactly as I had hoped, the letters are light enough that I can go over it with a paint pen, so all is not lost.

Have you ever tried this before? What were your results? Share in the comments below!
