The Name Game: Part Three

Obviously you must have noticed I haven’t blogged in a loooooong time. Well, things have pretty busy around here. We found out that our newest addition is a boy! Also, my middle sister got married! Needless to say, its been chaotic at the Huffman Homestead. But now that things are starting to settle down and we’re {almost} back to “regularly scheduled programming”, we can now announce what we will be naming our newest little guy!

Its a Boy

Before I reveal it, a little backstory…

We knew this time around we wanted a name from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Our girl name was easily decided upon: Eowyn. We love this name because we love the character and what a bad-a she is. Plus, we could shorten it and call Baby Girl, “Winnie”. But, the sonogram showed an “outie” and not an “innie”—ha!

So we started thinking about boy names we liked from LotR. Aragorn? Eomir? Baromir? Definitely not Frodo. But then we realized, “Hey! It doesn’t have to be someone’s name from the trilogy. It can be the name of a place.”

Our little guy’s name is:

Han Name reveal

Why Rohan?

The men of Rohan are strong—not just in battle—but in will and valor, full of integrity, and fight for their people against evil. Aragorn describes them this way:

They are proud and willful, but they are true-hearted, generous in thought and in deed; bold but not cruel…

—The Two Towers, Book Three, Chapter 2

Who wouldn’t want a son like that?! We decided we’d call him Han for short. A nod to one of our other favorite fandoms (and rebellious, scruffy, nerf-herder):

giphy (31)

Jude was easy. I’ve always been a huge fan of The Beatles. When my sister and I went to London after I graduated college, we made the trek down to Liverpool and spent the day on the “Magical Mystery Tour Bus”, seeing all the sites from the Fab Four’s childhood. I mean, I named my dog Pinny Lane for heaven’s sakes! Added bonus: whenever I call him for dinner I can sing, “Hey Juuuuude!”

So, there you have it! Our little Halfling has a name! And yes, I know it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea…but honestly, I don’t care. I mean, our daughter is Hermione and our son is Indiana. We couldn’t have a “Bill”. Not only that, but each of their names mean something to us. And that’s enough for me.

Happy Friday, boys and girls! We’ve been staying in a lot avoiding the cold weather, which means we’ve been stuck indoors, coughing/sneezing/blowing noses and sharing germs. Us over at the Huffman Homestead are in dire need of geeky goodies to buoy our spirits and I’m sure you could too! So let’s get to it, shall we?

While we were at Disney World, I really, really wanted to find where they sold “The Grey Stuff” (like from Beauty and the Beast) with this cookbook from Firebox, I might be able to make it!

Disney’s Simple Family Cookbook features 100 quick, easy, and delicious recipes your whole family is sure to enjoy!

When you’re done noshing on Lady and Tramp’s spaghetti, you can fix a spot of tea with Think Geek’s new Star Trek Captain’s tea set!

ktqj_st_captains_tea_set

This set, which features the Star Command logo as well as the insignia for the United Federation of Planets, comes with teapot, two tea cups, two saucers, a sugar bowl, and creamer pitcher!

Growing up, Huff the Hubs loooooved Winnie the Pooh. When we were first expecting Huff the Tot, he suggested a Pooh-themed nursery (which I quickly shot down in favor of our Star Wars nursery). But, maybe if we have a third, we can get this for the little geekling’s room:

100 acre wood

This framed, canvas map is perfect for any A. A. Milne fan and is available at any Hot Topic!

Anyone planning on going to see the newest installment of the How to Train Your Dragon series in theaters? Then you need this (ya know, to sneak candy into the movie! Wait, I would never condone such behavior…*cough cough*)!

This Toothless mini backpack is made of faux leather and features the adorable dragon’s quirky smile and tiny wings! Seriously, could this be any cuter?!

Yeeeaaahhhh, boyeeeeee, its Friday! I have found some geeky goodies sure to make you squee with joy!

Being stuck inside since its been so cold out has made me realize our house is in dire need of some redecorating. I think I might spring for this awesome Harry Potter Quidditch Shower Curtain to re-do our bathroom!

ktlp_hp_shower_curtain

Complete with pictures of the various equipment used for playing the noble game of Quidditch, this shower curtain also has the words “keeper” and “catch” emblazoned about it because, you’re a catch and a keeper. Don’t ever forget that.

Keeping in theme with the bathroom, this next find is something I think we should all buy for the staff bathrooms at work.

ktsh_unicorn_poop_toilet_bombs

These Unicorn Poop Toilet Bombs make any loo smell cotton-candy-fresh after someone has, ahem, taken the Browns to the Super Bowl. These cleaning bombs also come in different fragrances titled: Dinosaur Dung,  Number 2, and my favorite: Ladies Don’t Poop!

Ever since the release of The Last Jedi, my kids have become even more obsessed with BB8 and I have a new love–porgs! Seriously, they’re so cute! Maybe I need to invest in a few sets of these pillow cases from Hot Topic…?

Looking to make some tasty soups to warm up your winter? Try one of these soup bone herb infusers from Perpetual Kid!

According to PK, here’s how it works: Simply place your desired herbs inside of this funny bone and place it in your pot with boiling water, and it will be ready in no thyme! It will keep your herbs together while adding flavors to your stews & soups.

I feel like there was a collective gasp when Netflix revealed they may not be keeping Friends on their streaming service in 2019. Thankfully, they paid an enormous amount of money to keep the 90’s sitcom for another year! To celebrate, grab a pair of these Central Perk earrings from Hot Topic!

The earrings come with two different pairs so you can share a pair with your bestie! Just don’t let Rachel borrow them–she always loses things.

Happy New Year, Geeklings! One of my goals this year is to be more consistent with blogging so I am committed to bringing you more geekery in 2019! Let’s just dig right in, shall we?

Its a new year, maybe its a time to update the decor in your house with some nerdy nifties like this Starry Night-inspired wall art from Think Geek!

knuu_starry_planet_wall_art

I just realized that this canvas included Earth…so…what planet is this city on?! Dun, dun, dun!

Maybe you’ve got a resolution to host more fantastical gathering with you and your crew! Definitely time to splurge on this Harry Potter flatware!

These Hogwarts crest-engraved utensils come in a single place setting (5 pieces) or a 4-person place setting (20 pieces)!

Its a new year which means its probably time to start evaluating your fitness goals. Why not start small with this finger weightlifting set from Perpetual Kid?  Finger-Weight-Lifting__96530.1540683226

While not an actual way to get ripped, it is a great way to keep the workday more fun!

Y’all, January in Oklahoma is turning out to be a lot colder than December. I need to reevaluate my winter gear. Perhaps I need these:

unicorn-ear-muffs__30248.1536547180

Seriously, how a-DORK-able are these unicorn earmuffs?! I bet they’re magically cozy, too!

A few weeks ago, my favorite Star Wars purse fell apart after about 9 years of love and affection. *Sigh* But this means I’m in the market for a new, nerdy bag! Maybe I’ll get this one from Hot Topic!

Totoro bag

This cross-body bag is made to look like a book of the classic Ghibli film, My Neighbor Totoro! Surely it will hold all of my little soot sprites, right?

Fan Girl Friday!

Fan Girl Friday Disney Header

Since today is our last day at Disney, what better way to celebrate our day than with a House of Mouse-themed Fan Girl Friday?

I know Maleficent is a villain, but she’s pretty bad-a. Show your love for the bewitchingly bad fairy with this awesome tee from Hot Topic!

FGF 1116 Maleficient Shirt

Y’all, I’m not much of a jewelry girl. I wear a few rings and a necklace every now and then. But OH. MY. SEAS. I want this ring!

FGF 1116 Tritons Castle Ring

This 3-D ring is an exact replica of Triton’s castle from The Little Mermaid covered in blue and purple glitter!

Of all the Disney secondary characters, I feel like Edna Mode from The Incredibles is the most underrated and under-represented! She’s smart, creative, and has some wicked one-liners! Like this one featured on a tee!

FGF 1116 Incredibles Shirt

That chick is wise, too! And, as expected, this shirt does NOT come with a cape!

Not all Disney gear has to be a t-shirt. Check out this cah-yoot skirt, straight in from the street markets of Agrabah!

FGF 1116 Agrabah Skirt

The border on the skirt has silhouettes of your favorite characters and views from Aladdin! Street rat? Nah, girl. Street chic.

OH. EM. SQUEE. I seriously think I may order this to hold one of our photos in from Orlando!

FGF 1116 Mickey Mouse heart hands

This Mickey “heart hands” frame holds a 3 by 4 1/2 inch photo–perfect for those pics from Splash Mountain or The Haunted Mansion!

And speaking of the wizarding world, for those of you wanting to write your memoirs but not wanting anyone to see them yet, I’ve got just the thing for you!

ktol_tom_riddles_diary_inuse

This diary–more specifically, Tom Riddle’s diary–comes with a special pen filled with invisible ink and a flash light (cleverly disguised as a wand) that will reveal what has been written! Thankfully, no Dark Magic is included.

Did y’all know that 2018 is the 30th anniversary of My Neighbor Totoro?! Celebrate with this a-DORK-able necklace from Hot Topic!

totoro necklace

I absolutely love this! Now I just need to find a catbus shirt to wear with it!

We’re about to head to Orlando for our first-ever Disney trip with the kiddos! I think I may need this magical backpack to take with us!

This cute bag from designer Danielle Nicole can be worn as a backpack, shoulder bag, or cross-body bag! Not to mention it is super adorable!
