A few weeks ago, I posted how I kept Huff the Tot busy during my workouts. Well, the other day, I was in need of an activity for Huff the Babe while I worked with his older sister on sight words.

I asked him if he wanted puzzles.

No.

Did he want to color?

No.

Paint?

No.

Play with Legos?

No.

I was at my wits end.

Desperate, I searched Pinterest and found a quick and easy activity that could occupy the kid for ten freaking minutes while I helped HtT with Tot School.

It worked! *PRAISE HANDS*

He was occupied for a good 15-20 minutes while Huff the Tot and I finished up Tot School and screamed into a pillow. Just kidding about that last part. Maybe.

Have you ever been out shopping, looked down, and found a fun, painted rock? A group in Oklahoma City (405 Rocks) paints little stones and leaves them around the city for folks to find and brighten their day! The kids LOVE finding these! You can make your own friendship rocks like these from Red Ted Art!

One of my New Year’s resolutions was to start waking up before the kids so I could have time to workout, shower, and read my devotional before they swarmed me with demands for chocolate milk and Storybots. I did okay for a hot minute, but then life happened. Huff the Hubs would suggest staying up to watch something on Netflix or I’d need to finish a load of laundry that didn’t get done, or I was just so excited to have five freaking minutes to myself that I’d scroll through Pinterest or Facebook only to find I didn’t go to bed until midnight. Needless to say, finding time during the day to workout proved very difficult.

Huff the Babe goes down for a nap around 1:30 everyday but Huff the Tot doesn’t take naps anymore. We tried doing “Timer Time”–quiet time in her room for about 30 minutes so I could have a little bit of quiet/time to run on the treadmill but she just ended up under my feet, asking me what I was doing fifty times. Mommy needed something for her to do.

The other day, I overslept and didn’t get my morning workout in. I decided I’d do it during HtB’s nap time and tried to think of something that would keep HtT busy for 30 minutes while I worked to get “shredded” with Jillian Michaels.  I remembered something I saw on Instagram and decided to give it a shot.

HtT loves playing salon and painting my nails. I figured I could keep her busy and help her work on some fine motor skills all at the same time with this neat activity!

I traced my hands (well, I made them a tad bit bigger than my actual hands, just to have a bigger painting space) and cut them out of cardboard. I let HtT pick out different colors of nail polish from my stash and she set to work while I worked up a sweat in the other room. This worked WONDERS, y’all! She was occupied, she was creative, and she worked those little muscles in her hands! When she finished painting the nails, she even drew rings and bracelets on them! She later told me, “That was fun, Mommy! I want to do a feet one now!”

Well kid, I’ll probably be sleeping in soon so looks like you’ll get your wish!

I’m always looking for life hacks that will make my life easier. As a mom, most of the time I’m searching for ways to make cleaning easier (see: ways to get the kids involved in cleaning). I read this article one day while I was searching Pinterest and I my interest was instantly piqued!

For those of you who don’t want to click the link, I’ll give the “TL;dr” version: a woman once had a terrible landlord who actually gave her some great advice on how to clean the bathtub: Dawn dish soap and a broom.

Apparently, the bristles from the broom are great at scraping away any gunk off the tub while the Dawn gets rid of all the nasty grime and soapscum, all while saving your back from any discomfort. I decided to try it for myself!

I went to Dollar Tree and bought a new broom specifically for this and just grabbed the Dawn from the kitchen.

All I did was squeeze the Dawn into the tub:

Scrub, and then rinse:

It certainly looked clean, but my mom always told me that the way to tell if a bathtub is clean is to rub your hand alongside the bathtub walls. If its smooth, then all the gunk is gone and your tub is clean! If its bumpy and rough, you need to keep scrubbing. I sat down on the edge of the tub and rubbed my hands along the tub walls.

I was VERY impressed! This is a great way for someone with chronic pain/back issues/elderly to be able to clean without putting unneeded stress on their back or joints! Even Huff the Tot could do this because the cleaner isn’t made with harsh chemicals! My life is forever changed, y’all.

As some of y’all know, I’m trying to up my protein intake so I can build more muscle. Not that I’m trying to be the female version of Arnold Schwarzenegger or anything, I just want my protein intake to be substantially more than my carbohydrate intake. (Because lower carb + more protein = more fat loss.)

Anywhoo, its been kind of a struggle to find protein-friendly snacks and treats that aren’t beef jerky or meatballs. The other day I was craving a chocolate shake and I just didn’t have the energy to make a Keto-friendly one, so I went to Walmart to see what I could find. Enter this:

I was a little nervous at first because I was afraid it would taste like a Slim Fast shake (of which I’m not a fan) but I was pleasantly surprised! This shake was sooooo good! The entire bottle was only 160 calories, 4 grams of fat, and 20 grams of protein! I haven’t tried any other flavors, but I seriously think I will because this one was so tasty!

A few days ago, I was lamenting to Huff the Hubs the struggle of hitting my protein goal everyday. “I need more protein but I REALLY don’t want to just eat jerky all day, every day,” I told him. He said, “You just need some meatballs or something to snack on.”

Genius.

But, I knew I couldn’t make traditional meatballs–they’re made with bread crumbs and bread equals carbs. I perused Pinterest and found an awesome slow cooker, Keto meatball recipe!

Here’s what I used:

~1 package ground turkey

~1/2 cup grated, parmesan cheese

~1 egg

~a sprinkle of garlic salt, italian seasoning, onion powder, and Mrs. Dash Table Blend

First, I combined everything in a large bowl and then rolled the mixture into ping pong-sized balls.

I dropped them in my Crockpot and cooked them on high for about 5 hours.

Then, they were done! I served them alongside some mashed cauliflower and also heated up two or three for a snack whenever I was behind on my protein intake!

Hey ladies. This weekend while doing laundry I had a revelation and now its turning into a revolution. I just need a small army of XX chromosomes to back me up. I know we are usually divided on so many subjects: politics, religion, which Bachelor contestant should get a rose…but today, we must all unite against our common enemy: the built-in camisole bra.

187643f0-5fb4-4896-9c75-44b0c2c4bffe_1.52ef37db59f58a509e1ddd7c912ac831

Seriously, who are these “bras” helping?! They’re basically like an Oklahoma congressman toward teachers: completely unsupportive.  They either let The Girls hang so low you’ve pretty much got a plumber’s crack on your chest OR they smoosh everything together so that you’ve got the dreaded uni-boob.

noooo-gif-4

These deceptive articles of clothing may say that they come equipped with straps for “easy adjusting” but DO NOT BE FOOLED! They will do nothing but fill you with false hope and just end up letting you down, if you catch my drift. Yes, I know; the thought of wearing a shirt without that pesky bra strap sneaking out sounds tempting, but do not trust the enemy!

And while we’re talking about failures in fashion, what’s with the built-in bra’s cousin “built-in underwear”? I have a few pairs of running shorts with underwear already in them. WHO IS NOT WEARING UNDERWEAR WHILE RUNNING?! Why would the creators of these shorts think I need TWO sets of underwear? After working out in the Oklahoma heat, its difficult enough to peel my shorts off of my sweaty, stuck-together thighs and they want to add another hurdle?! Just stop. Stop with the “built-in” crap. Let me have my spaghetti straps without the extra hindrance and give me shorts that won’t make me feel like I’m putting on Spanx to hit the treadmill.

Unite with me, ladies!
