Try It Tuesday

Try It Tuesday New Product Banner

I love trying new products. And thanks to Try It Tuesday, I have an excuse to by all of these cool items I see at the store that I normally wouldn’t buy! Enter, these two new treats!

I looooove Pop Tarts and I have such an intimate lover affair with bacon that one of my nicknames is Bacon Face. So, yeah, when I saw these, I was SO. FREAKING. EXCITED.

IMG_7751

I normally don’t heat up my Pop Tarts (I know; I’m weird) but this one was begging to be toasted. Y’all, it smelled AMAZING as it was heating up in the toaster. Fo’ reals. It was like bacon was sizzling on the griddle. I couldn’t wait to try it!

IMG_7752

The smell, however, was the best part of this. I couldn’t really taste the “bacon” and the maple was really overpowering. Sigh.

I’m a big fan of Laughing Cow cheeses. They are so yummy! They have always been one of my favorite snacks. A Laughing Cow wedge + whole wheat crackers = A Happy Jessie. I was shopping at WalMart the other day and saw these:

IMG_7884

It was like freaking Dunkaroos for adults! And let me tell ya, these did NOT disappoint! It was so tasty! My only complaint was that there was a lot of leftover cheese and not enough sticks to dunk (ironically, I always had the opposite problem with Dunkaroos, lol). Other than that, this was a yummy snack and only has 100 calories! Goldmine!

Try It Tuesday Cooking Badge 2

Last week when it was super cold (and not the glorious spring weather we’re experiencing today), I was CRAVING soup. I wanted some comfort food, so I consulted–what else–Pinterest! I found an awesome crockpot potato soup recipe from The Country Cook!

Loaded Potato Soup (thecountrycook)

Here’s what you need:

IMG_0100

4 pounds potatoes (I used russet), peeled and cubed

1/2 cup onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 stalks celery, finely diced (I actually didn’t use this because I don’t like celery)

2 (14 oz.) cans chicken broth

2 teaspoons salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

2 cups half and half

Garnish with cheese, bacon bits, and/or chives

First, spray your crockpot with cooking spray and toss in your peeled and cubed potatoes and then sprinkle chopped onion, salt, pepper, and garlic on top.

IMG_0024

Next pour in the chicken broth, cover, and let it cook for 6-8 hours on low.

IMG_0083

Then, mash the potatoes and add in the half and half.

IMG_0065

Cover and cook on high for about 20 more minutes.

Once the soup is thoroughly heated, ladle into a bowl, garnish and enjoy!

I liked the soup…I just wish it was a tad bit creamier. I think next time I’ll add a little cream cheese (not super healthy, I know) to add a little somthin’ somethin’!

My Favorite Things {To Eat}

Merry Monday before Christmas!

With the big day only a tad over 48 hours away, you’re probably starting to think about what you’re going to take to your many family functions. If you don’t want to actually bring something, I’ve got some great suggestions for you! Every year I look forward to this season because its when the best of the best foods come around my house. And my family does not skimp when it comes to holiday eating!

Here’s my Top Four Favorite Holiday Treats!

#4. Jalapeno Poppers

jalapeno poppers

Full disclosure: my dad makes these almost exclusively in the summertime. However, we are preparing for Ultra Feast on New Year’s Eve and he has already said that these are totes on the menu. I am SO excited! The poppers may seem a little extreme, given that they’re made with a crazy-hot pepper, but they’re actually not as spicy as you might think. The cream cheese really helps to mellow out the kick! Plus, the peppers are wrapped in bacon. And everything is better with bacon! Get the recipe here!

#3. Fruit Pizza

fruit pizza

We haven’t had this dessert is sooooooo long! It used to be a staple for our New Year’s Eve partay’s, but sadly, its gone away. I’m hoping to revive it this year! Its a pretty simple recipe. All you need is sugar cookie dough (you can even use store bought!), cream cheese, powdered sugar, and your favorite fruits! Get the stats here!

#2. Chili Cheese Dip

chili cheese dip

I love this dip because its always a home run when there’s a lot of people and its super simple to make! Its perfect for the colder months and can be tailored to fit your tastes! You add or subtract just about anything from this recipe and its still awesome! Get some ideas for your own creation at this site!

#1. Peanut Butter Ball

pb ball

My sister found this recipe on Pinterest and I have never before been so thankful for the internet. This sweet dip takes two of my favorite foods: peanut butter and chocolate and makes them edible with a spoon. (Well, I guess you could eat peanut butter straight out of the jar with a spoon, but this is SO much better!) Again, its a super simple recipe that looks like you’ve spent all day making, so you can totes impress your in-laws! This dip is good with sugar cookies, graham crackers, and apple slices!

Happy eating!

Fan Girl Friday

Only six days left until Christmas, folks! That means all of you Christmas shopping procrastinators out there are really letting things get down to the wire! Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! I’m back with a last-minute shopping lists for the fanboys and fangirls in your life!

For the {Techy} Happy Camper:

This is the ultimate gift for those who like the great outdoors—as long as they can see it from the great indoors. Just listen to these specs from the Eddie Bauer website: “…this three-person, four-season tent is made to be roomy, lightweight, and strong…It packs all the power you need to charge laptops, tablets, lights, cameras, smartphones, and more, while internal wiring will give you plenty of places to hook up!”

Sadly, this bad boy isn’t for sale…yet. I’m sure it’ll cost a pretty penny when it does hit the market, though!

For the Smart Dresser:

equation dress

How cute is this dress? (Huff the Babe actually has a cloth diaper that looks like this!) Covered in equations and formulas, this acute dress is available from ModCloth AND you can get it shipped in time for Christmas!

For the Whovian (That Doesn’t Like the Dark):

As a kid, I was terrified of the dark. Now, thanks to Doctor Who, I realize that fear was totally legitimate because it could’ve been the Vashta Nerada. And, also because of Doctor Who, I need a nightlight even though I’m an adult. And, thanks to Think Geek, I can have one, suited for a Whovian!

For the Manly Man:

I love bacon. I love it so much, my best friend calls me Bacon Face (that’s another story for another day). I think I might have to snag some of this for Huff the Hubs this Christmas:

bacon shaving cream

Its bacon shaving cream! The description from Perpetual Kid alone is enough to buy it: “Its meaty flavor will enhance your shaving experience and leave you with a soft, porky face.  Simply work into a rich and smoky lather with some hot water, shave against the grain and inhale the crisp, meaty scent.”

For the Book Worm:

Remember the good ole days of digging through the card catalog, searching for that one book you needed to finish your report on the Berlin Wall? Then finding that behemoth of a book, taking it to the librarian and signing your name on the checkout card? Ah, memories. Now you can relive those days gone by with this sqee-worthy satchel!

book bag

Plus, its only $19.99 from ModCloth! It would really finish off the look of that dress, huh?

See you next week, kids!

Try It Wednesday

Happy Hump Day!

Since I didn’t do a Try It yesterday, I thought I’d make up for it today! And trust me, you are going to LURVE it!

What is the most magical food in the entire world–nay–galaxy? No, not Nutella.

BACON.

We can all agree that everything’s better with bacon.

Salads? Yes!

Burgers? Yes!

Potatoes? Oh yes!

Bacon has always been a breakfast staple, and now its made its way into your favorite breakfast pastry! That’s right: today’s Try It is cinnamon rolls with a bacon-y center!

All you need is:

Please pardon my toes.

Please pardon my toes.

~1 can of cinnamon rolls (make sure they’re the kind that roll out)

~a package of bacon (NOT the microwave kind)

Its pretty easy!

All you do is unroll the cinnamon roll:

Then place the bacon strip inside:

Then, roll up and bake!

After about 20 minutes, you’ve got this:

photo 5

You know how people say that ANYTHING is better with bacon? Umm…well…I don’t think they’ve tried this.

It wasn’t as good as I had hoped. I’m pretty sure the bacon wasn’t all the way cooked. I took one bite and sort of gagged. I was so sad! I really wanted it to be the greatest thing I had ever eaten! But, sadly, it was not.

Sigh…

Oh well. Guess I’ll just add it to the collection of Pinterest Fails.

Try It Tuesday

Ugh, its been yet another day of freezing temps and icy roads. SO. SICK. OF. THIS.

Because of the wintery weather, I decided to really treat myself this Try It Tuesday.  I thought of what three things I love to divulge in. It wasn’t that difficult to come up with the list: chocolate, cookies, and bacon. Enter: chocolate chip bacon cookies!

bacon cookies (2)

The recipe is pretty much like any other chocolate chip recipe, with the added magic of chopped bacon!

Here’s what you need:

For the candied bacon:

~8 slices center cut thick bacon

~1/2 cup brown sugar

For the cookies:

~1 cup flour

~1/2 teaspoon baking soda

~1/2 cup shortening

~1/2 cup white sugar

~1/4 cup brown sugar

~1 tsp vanilla extract

~1 egg

~1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

~3/4 tsp salt

First, I preheated the oven to 350 degrees. I used microwave bacon, so the instructions for my cookies will be different than the original recipe in the link above. I placed the microwave bacon on a paper towel and sprinkled brown sugar on top.

IMG_4086

Then I microwaved the bacon for about 20 seconds.

After that, I let them set and mixed up the ingredients for the chocolate chip cookies.

I creamed the shortening, white sugar, and brown sugar with the vanilla and egg.

IMG_4087

Then I added flour, salt, soda, and chocolate chips until combined.

IMG_4088

I chopped up the bacon and then rolled the cookie dough into balls with the bacon.

I popped them in the oven for about 11 minutes and let the sweet aroma of bacon and chocolate permeate the kitchen.

And finally, I had these:

IMG_4090

OH YEAH. They were good! I really liked them! My mom said, “Hmm… they’re different.” She ate two, so I’m thinking that means they’re good different, ha!
