Fan Girl Friday!

Fan Girl Friday WallE

Hey y’all! Its been a hot minute since I’ve done a Fan Girl Friday and I thought your sweet little nerd hearts have been pining away for some geeky goodies so I’m back! These nerdy nifties are sure to get you back into my good graces so let’s dive in!

Personally, I’m an extrovert. I like being in a group (most of the time) and feel at ease with a lot of folks. However, I know not everyone is like me and I have a lot of peeps in my life that are perfectly content to just stay at home with a good book. Looks like I’ll be buying these socks from Perpetual Kid for them for Christmas!

My brother-in-law is a connoisseur of board games. Seriously. I don’t even know how many the man has but I’m fairly certain its in the triple digits. Anyway, he brought over a game and I loved it so much, I bought it! And now they have a Marvel edition!

marvel codenames

Here’s what Hot Topic says about game play: “The Marvel Edition of Codenames combines the hit social word game with the Marvel Universe including Spider Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers and Doctor Strange. Two Cluemasters on opposing teams, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra, give one-word clues to help their teammates be the first to identify all of their team’s field agents from the 25 cards displayed in a 5 x 5 grid.” Seriously, you guys. This game is SO MUCH fun!

And speaking of board games, I think I’ve finally found a game in which I will totally beat the pants off of everyone! Four words: HARRY. POTTER. TRIVIAL. PURSUIT.

According to Think Geek, the different categories are: Slytherin House, Death Eaters and The Dark Arts; Objects & Artifacts; Animals, Magical Creatures and Magical Beings; Witches, Wizards, Ghosts and Muggles; Hogwarts, Other Locations and Transportation; and Spells, Potions and Other Magic. The game also comes with four game pieces, each one representing the different Houses of Hogwarts! *cue fangirl scream*

Y’all, I’m not going to lie, I totally squealed when I saw this t-shirt! I have been wanting a shirt like this ever since The Fellowship of the Ring came out!

door shierrt

This Hot Topic online exclusive tee features the Doors of Durin and the phrase, “Speak friends, and enter” (just like mine and Huff the Hubs’ welcome mat!). *immediately orders shirt*

Happy fangirling!

Fan Girl Friday

I gotta be real with y’all. I meant to post this special-themed Fan Girl Friday weeks ago! *face palm* But, life happened, and I was just way too busy and completely forgot! Maybe I should invest in a Remebrall… Anywhoo, with Harry Potter’s birthday not too long ago and the release of the HP and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Lego minifig line, I thought it would be totally appropriate to highlight some fabulous finds from the wizarding world! Hold on to your Nimbuses, folks!

Look sweet while promoting your favorite candy shop in Hogsmeade with this a-DORK-able top from Hot Topic!

This tie-bottom Honeyduke’s blouse features your favorite sweets from HP: chocolate frogs, sugar quills, cauldron cakes, iced mice, and more!

If I were able to visit Diagon Alley for realsies, the absolute FIRST place I would go would be Weasley Wizard Wheeze’s! Think if I was wearing this dress I’d get a discount?

Weasley Wizard Wheezes dress

Not only does this dress highlight some of the best part of the ginger brothers’ inventory (like pygmy puffs and exploding hats) but IT. HAS. POCKETS. That’s the dream!

Anyone else want to just curl up next to the fire at The Burrow (the Weasley’s home) and have Momma Molly make you a nice treackle tart and a glass of tea? Well, now we can kind of get that warm fuzzy feeling with this AWESOME 3-D puzzle of the Weasley’s home!

“Its not much, but its home.”

“I think its brilliant!” Same, Harry. SAME.

Looking for something a bit more magical for the next family game night? Look no further than the Harry Potter edition of Headbandz!

Available at Barnes and Noble stores, this game is sure to be a favorite of kids and adults alike!

Saving for a trip to Harry Potter World next summer? Maybe a holiday in London? You’ll need a place to keep your funds safe from sticky fingers. Look no further than the most secure bank in the world (and it fits on your dresser)!

gringotts bank

Oh yes, my dear, that IS a ceramic Gringott’s Bank (from geeky supplier Box Lunch) to hold your Sickles, Galleons, and Knuts! Or, you know, your Muggle money. Whatevs.

Happy fangirling!

Mommy Monday

One of my goals for 2018 is to try to get the kids to not watch as much television as they have in the past. I’ll admit it, my kids watch the big black box more than I’d like. According the Academy of American Pediatrics, toddlers shouldn’t be exposed to “screen time” more than an hour a day.

I’ve been trying to think of ways to keep the kiddos busy (so I can do stuff like actually go to the bathroom or blog) besides turning on the telly. I made a few “centers boxes” I found with items from the dollar store but Huff the Tot and Huff the Babe seem to really fly through them. I did a little research and found some awesome games that can either be played alone or together and are great for getting kids to think critically and problem solve!

Roll & Play

roll n play

This game is great! We have one similar at the Mother’s Day Out program where I work and the kids love it! The premise is simple: roll the soft, plushy dice and find a card with the matching color. On the card is an activity you have to perform (sing a song, roar like a lion, etc.). And bonus–the cards fit inside a little pocket on the dice!

Camelot Jr.

camelot jr

Do you have a Minecraft or Lego-obsessed kiddo? Camelot Jr. is an awesome way to introduce your little one to spatial dynamics and architecture! This game (which can be played independently) comes with a variety of blocks and a booklet with instructions and is fun for the whole family!

Three Little Piggies

This single-player game is similar to the Camelot Jr., but with a little twist. Using the familiar theme of The Three Little Pigs, this game includes a booklet with 48 challenges and encourages spatial insight, planning and problem-solving skills!

Last Mouse Lost

One of the biggest problems we have in the Huffman Homestead is keeping the kids busy and focused on something when we go out to eat. For a kid, waiting 15-20 minutes for your food to arrive can seem like an eternity. And as soon as they get bored, all hell breaks loose: silverware goes flying, iced tea gets spilled, and someone (sometimes me) ends up in tears. This game is no bigger than a pancake is a great way to keep kiddos entertained on the go! Here’s how to play, according to The mice have just finished feasting and need to scurry into their holes. Don’t be the last mouse standing or you might get caught by the cat! Players take turns pressing down any number of mice they wish in a single row. The player who presses down the last mouse loses the round. Whoever wins three of five rounds wins the game!

Zingo Bingo

A new twist on an old favorite, Zingo Bingo helps kids learn sight words and matching! This would be great for a playdate or even as a center in a classroom!

Fan Girl Friday Mario Badge

Happy Friday, y’all! Its been a KA-RA-ZEE week around here and I’ve been off my blogging game a bit. But, I’m back today with geeky goodies to get your weekend started on a nerdy note!

Am I the only one that sits around and wonders what life would be like if unicorns existed? And what would their farts smell like? Well, wonder no more! Perpetual Kid has you covered!

Bag of Unicorn Farts

This bag contains sachets full of the essence of unicorn methane! And, what’s better, 10% of your purchase goes toward the Unicorn Children’s Foundation, which helps nerodiverse children. Read more about the foundation here!

You guys know I have mad love for Harry Potter. And with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as well as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them coming out soon, its pretty much reigniting the flame. But so are these!

HP Coloring Book

Four, count them FOUR coloring books are hitting the shelves! They include the one above, magical places, magical creatures, and favorite characters! Check out more about the books here!

Game of Thrones isn’t known for its happy-go-lucky storylines (Hold the door, anyone?) nor for bringing people together (except Cersi and Jaime, amirite? Hey-oh!) But now, GoT is bringing people together for a fun game night with this!

Its GoT Clue! This double-sided board game features settings in the Red Keep and Meereen as well as 12 suspects (Cersei, Jaime, Tyrion, Sansa, Littlefinger, Margaery Tyrell, Daenerys, Hizdahr Zo Loraq, Missandei, Daario, Jorah Mormont, and Grey Worm) and weapons from the show, including the Faceless Men! Gather the clan and speculate widely!

Alice Through The Looking Glass hit theaters last week and the merch is EVERYWHERE! And I am LOVING it! Like this a-DORK-able dress from Hot Topic!

alice dress

I seriously LURVE this dress! I don’t think I could pull it off, but I will totally gaze at it adoringly every time I pass HT whilst taking Huff the Tot to play at the mall playground.

Happy fangirling!

Fan Girl Friday!

Fan Girl Friday Background

Happy Friday, y’all! Its an especially great FGF because…..:

its my birthday

That’s right! Its my birthday! I plan on eating a ton of food and binge-watching Netflix to my heart’s content. But don’t worry! I also found some awesomely nerdy goodies for you!

I am a big fan of GoldieBlox–toys that help girls master basic engineering principles–mostly because I really want Huff the Tot to be interested in math and science. So while shopping at WalMart, I was super psyched to find this!

Fan GIrl Friday Roominate

Its a new line of toys called “Roominate“. Each set comes with pieces to construct a dollhouse, as well as a kit to light up the room! Each set is different, but its basically like a Snap Circuits kit that also lets you build stuff! I love it!

I’m a BIG fan of board games. Mostly trivia games because I’m really good at them (as long as they’re about pop culture). When I saw this in a magazine, I immediately added it to my Christmas list!

Fan Girl Friday Pop Stream

The name of the game is Pop Stream and its a pop culture junkies dream!  According to, this is how it works: “Watch hundreds of real movie clips stream on your tablet as two teams go head to head in this game of cinema smarts!”

One of my favorite indulgences is wallets. I probably have about 20. (I know; hoard much?) But anytime I see a whimsical wallet, I just can’t say no! I’m pretty sure this billfold from ThinkGeek will be my next one!

Fan GIrl Friday Spellbook Wallet

Designed like a Spellbook, this bibliophile’s billfold has multiple compartments for your Muggle money, as well as credit cards and pictures!

I really wish I would’ve found out about this next item a few weeks ago so it could have arrived on my birthday!

Fan Girl Friday Sliced Chocolate

What’s the next best thing since sliced bread? Sliced chocolate of course! These yummy slices of chocolate come packaged like cheese here in the US but taste even better! Seriously, how great would it be to add one of these to your next pb&j?!

Happy fangirling!

Try It Tuesday

Today’s Try It isn’t edible, nor did I find it on Pinterest. And, actually, I didn’t try it on a Tuesday. So basically today’s Try It is a total sham.

love board games. Board games are one of my favorite pastimes. Growing up, we’d play board games (or card games) as a family at least once a week. It was awesome! And really brought out the competitive side in all of us. However, there was always one board game I flat out refused to play: Risk.

Even though I had never played it, I hated it. Taking over different parts of the world and a game that lasts longer than Monopoly? No thank you. I’ll take Scattergories or Disney Trivial Pursuit any day, but not Risk.

Huff the HUbs lurves Risk. He and his brother and dad get together all the time to play Risk (or the equally boring Settlers of Catan). Over Christmas, I was roped into playing this with HtH, my bro-in-law and my father-in-law:

Watch for walkers!

Watch for walkers!

Yep, its the Walking Dead Risk!

Though I love TWD, I was skeptical at how this game could be fun. My skepticism was short-lived.

This. Game. Is. AWESOME.

With WD Risk, there are five different groups that you can be in control of, including Rick’s group and The Governor’s group. Its played a lot like regular Risk, but there’s also walkers involved. They can spawn in any given territory at any given time and you have to battle them, as well as other players for control of the board.

I lost the first time I played, which is to be expected. Then, I played two more times with my sister, her husband, and HtH. Sigh.

HtH and I learned something about my family: they. are. RUTHLESS.

The first time we played? HtH’s group was obliterated and I barely survived. The second time? was obliterated.

I decided I’m going to play a lot over the coming months so I can dominate against them when they come back in July.

I highly, highly recommend this board game! Its so much fun! And its one of those games that, even in you’re in the lead for a while, everything can change with the roll of the dice and a zombie outbreak. Seriously folks, hours of undead fun for the whole family!
