Try It Tuesday New Product Banner

A friend of mine that lives out of state has been telling me about today’s Try It for a few weeks now. But, for the longest time, I could not find them ANYWHERE locally. Then, the other day, SUCCESS!

Then, microwave for 1 minute, 10 seconds. Let it cool and enjoy!

OH. EM. GEE, y’all. I really wanted to take a picture of it once it was on my fork (because the above picture does NOT do it justice) but I seriously couldn’t stop eating it to snap a pic! It was SO. FREAKING. GOOD. Its a little high on the calorie count (300 to be exact!) so this will be a cheat day/I-have-calories-to-spare-and-its-8pm type of treat for me, but DAAAANNNGGGG! So delicious!

Happy Friday, y’all! After the bad news that seemed to never end this week, I think we could all use some happy. Enter: Fan Girl Friday! I’ve got some fun finds that is sure to brighten up your day!

I’ve never been to WonderCon, but I’d really like to go! I have, however, been to San Diego Comic Con (aka, Mecca for Geeks) and I LURVE seeing all of the cosplayers in their get ups! One of these days I’ll convince Huff the Hubs to cosplay at a con so we can be like this awesome couple:

cosplay parents

Ellie-Carl-cosplay-parents-04142016

They’re known as the “Cosplay Parents” and have a major internet following! The Nerdist reports:

“…they are relative novices to the con scene. But like most cosplayers, once they got started, they were immediately hooked. Their daughter spent years creating her own costumes and attending Anime Expo, but it wasn’t until the couple retired that they caught the cosplay bug themselves.”

How cute is that?! Click here for more of their a-DORK-able cosplays!

While I was scouring the interwebs for geeky goodies, I came across an awesome bakery website! Award-winning The Little Cherry Cake Company (in association with Black Cherry Cake Company) in the UK makes some nerdy nummies that fit just about every fandom! Just look!

Lord of the Rings Cake

There’s even a Disney Tsum Tsum cake AND a Tardis cake! Click here to visit their gallery!

Jaime Fraser Crest

Its an officially licensed Outlander fleece throw (complete with Fraser family crest!) from Think Geek! It’ll keep you toasty on those cold highland nights, yea kin?

One of those most celebrated days in geekdom is in just a few weeks! That’s right, get your Star Wars gear because May 4th is coming soon! Retailer Love and Madness has what you need! Like this cuff with the complete opening story to A New Hope!

Another end to another week and MAN it feels good!

I’ve searched high and low, near and far to find you the ultimate list of fandom finds!

Summer is officially over, which means wedding season is officially (mostly) over. On one hand, I’m happy about that. On another, I’m a little sad that I wasn’t invited to a wedding at Disney World. Why? Well, besides the obvious (Mickey Mouse, Epcot, singing pirates) I want to see the AH-MAZING cakes like this one in person! Check out what the magicians over at the House of Mouse have cooked up:

anigif_enhanced-buzz-6499-1412175464-6

How awesome is that?! The cake is able to project wrapped pictures on the cake and can even change to show where cake slices have been cut! Check out the Disney Wedding blog for more!

A few years ago, I was NOT at all into Zombies. That is, until I saw Zombieland. That was basically the genesis of my fascination with zombies. And, thankfully, there’s a sequel in the works!

zombieland 2

According to Cinema Blend, Ruben Fleischer (ZL’s director) is working with other execs and screenwriters to get a script going! Unfortunately, its unlikely that the original ensemble with make a reappearance. Sad panda.

Looking for a way to make pizza night just a little more fancy? Pillsbury.com has you covered! They recently perfected the art of pizza cakes. Yes, you read that right: pizza cakes.

pizza cake

I’m thinking this is the just the thing to bake for mine and Huff the hubs’ date night!

You guys know I have mad love for all things Harry Potter. I’ve read the books tons of times, I’ve been to midnight showings/releases, and I even named my daughter Hermione for goodness sakes! If ever there was an ultimate HP fan, its me. However, I think Menahem Asher Silva Vargas from Mexico City, Mexico has me beat.

hp

Homeboy has 3,097 pieces of Potter memorabilia! Yes, over 3K HP-themed figurines, stuffed animals, sweaters, flags, and so much more! His collection caught the attention of the folks at Guinness and is now on the books as the holder of the world’s largest Harry Potter collection! Merlin’s pants!

Speaking of fandoms, please don’t hurt yourself by rolling your eyes too hard at this next story.

I’m not ashamed to say that I have read all of the books in the Twilight series (multiple times) and went to all the midnight showings of the movies. Annnddd…. I threw a Breaking Dawn release party, complete with costumes. Having said that, I’m not as into the fangs from Forks as I used to be. I prefer my vamps from the East Coast (think: Mystic Falls, VA). But, for those of you who can’t get enough of Team Edward/Team Jacob, good news! They’re coming back! Well, sort of.

twilight

Lions Gate is partnering up with Twilight creator, Stephanie Meyer and will select five aspiring female directors to create short films in the Twilight universe! Whilst I could do without another screening of Bella, I think its awesome that LG and SM are trying to get young girls excited about film making. We need more female directors and storytellers…even if they make movies about an angsty teen whose in love with a centuries old vampire.

Try It Tuesday

Happy Tuesday, peeps!

We’re only 5 days into November and I’m sure you can already taste the turkey you’re going to bury your face in in a matter of weeks!

If you’re like me, you like to take it easy the first few weeks of November so on Thanksgiving, you can gorge like Kevin and Pam at Ultra Feast. But, if you’re also like me, you find it hard to have self-control when it comes to sweets and anything chocolate. So on those nights when you “just gotta have something” I have found what you’re looking for!

I get Hungry Girl emails all the time and she has a crazy truckload of recipes for desserts. One of her staples is called “Cake Mugs”. These are single serving cakes in a mug made with (typically) less than 5 ingredients!

My sister found one the other day and we tried it! It was DELISH!

Here’s what you need:

I box Angel Food Cake Mix

1 Box Chocolate Cake Mix

Water

Simple recipes are the BEST!

Simple recipes are the BEST!

That’s it! That’s seriously all you need! Well, you’ll need mugs and a microwave of course, but that goes without saying.

Here’s what to do:

Mix the 2 cake mixes together in a gallon zip-lock bag.

Take 3 tablespoons cake mix; mix with 2 tablespoons water in a microwave-safe mug.

Bake, bake, bake a cake! Stir that baby with a garden rake!

Microwave for 1 minute. Then, let it set for about a minute or two and enjoy!

So light and fluffy!

So light and fluffy!

We sprinkled mini chocolate chips on ours—so tasty! You can choose any cake mix you want to, BTW. It doesn’t have to be chocolate. But, I will say that chocolate is the BEST!

Try It Tuesday

OMG you guys. Get ready for today’s Try it Tuesday! It. Is. AMAZING.

Seriously. Its not only delicious, its easy!

Here’s what you need:

~1 box chocolate cake mix
~1 1/4 C milk
~1/2 C vegetable or canola oil
~3 eggs
~1 (3.9 ounce) instant chocolate pudding
~2 C milk (I used skim)
~1 (12 ounce) bag milk chocolate chips
~parchment paper

According to the website, you’re supposed to start by lining the crockpot with parchment paper… we did not. The outer edges were burnt (womp, womp). Moral of the story? Always follow the directions. Moving on!

Line the crockpot with parchment paper and then spray it with cooking spray.

In a mixer, mix the chocolate cake mix with milk, oil and eggs. Beat on low-speed for about a minute. You can also do this by hand if you don’t want to dirty up the mixer. And, let’s face it, no one likes to clean those things. When the batter is nice and mixed, pour it into the crock pot.

You have my permission to lick the bowl.

You have my permission to lick the bowl.

After that, mix chocolate pudding with milk and beat it until the pudding thickens. This should take about 3-4 minutes. Then, pour the pudding over the top of the cake batter. Don’t stir it. Really, cross my heart and hope to die. It will cook up best if you leave the layers be.

The chocolate is never-ending with this thing.

The chocolate is never-ending with this thing.

Grab your bag of milk chocolate chips and pour the pretty little things all over the top of the pudding. Again, do not stir it.

Like pixie dust. Chocolate pixie dust.

Like pixie dust. Chocolate pixie dust.

Cover the crock and cook on low for 2 1/2 hours, or until the top of the cake is set.

Then, eat the deliciousness and try not to devour the entire crockpot. You’re going to want to, but resist the temptation. You will have eater’s remorse. Or you will have no remorse and eat three helpings like I did. Er…what? No…I didn’t eat three… Okay, I did. Its THAT good, people.

Behold, the loveliness.

Behold, the loveliness.

Try It Tuesday

Hello all! Sorry about the lame post yesterday… Mondays are crazy. However, today, I feel GREAT! This very well may be the “nesting” energy coming out in me (which, according to the bone-chilling labor video Huff the Hubs and I watched on Saturday, means labor is imminent) but I’m using it for all its worth!

Because of that, you’re getting a Try it Tuesday twofer!

The first Try It comes from my mom! She saw this pin on Pinterest:

pinterest try it tuesday

Sounds simple enough, right? Two ingredients, how can you screw that up? (If I would’ve made this, I would have found a way!)

Instead of blueberries, Mom used apple pie filling. (She actually used the “lite” version; significantly cutting calories and sugar! Good job, Mom!)

Hope she clipped that Box Top before tossing it in the trash!

After she gathered her ingredients, she mixed them together:

Sorry if its a little dark. I never said Mom was Annie Lebowitz.

Sorry if its a little dark. I never said Mom was Annie Lebowitz.

Then, she popped it in the oven and baked at 350 for about 28-30 minutes. Then, magic happened:

Nom, nom, nom.

Nom, nom, nom.

It was really yummy! It tasted sort of like an apple pie (but without all the crazy calories!) And the recipe is so simple, you can use pretty much any pie filling you want: blueberry, cherry, apple, snozberry…Whatever you’re in the mood for!

The next Try It was actually a recommendation from my sister, Samantha. I was complaining about how my kitchen dish rags would get so stinky and mildewy after one or two uses. It not only stunk up the kitchen, but if you forgot that it was stinky, you’d touch it and then your hand would smell. It was a vicious cycle.

That is, until, Sam told me something that would change my life forever:

Use vinegar when you wash your towels.

Yep. Vinegar. Its not just for Easter eggs anymore!

She said to use detergent as you normally would when you wash your towels. BUT, get a Downy Ball and pour white vinegar into it, and drop it into the washing machine.

I was skeptical, but I tried it. I was afraid that it would make my towels stink, but after they washed, I couldn’t smell the vinegar (they were even softer!)! After I dried them and put them away was when the real test began.

I used a new dish rag and it lasted over a WEEK and did not stink ONCE! I was so excited! Needless to say, vinegar is a new laundry staple in the Huffman Homestead.
