Try It Tuesday New Product Banner

We all know I love trying new products, especially if they can help me (somewhat) stay on track with my healthy eating/weight loss goals. I found two new goodies this week at the grocery store and I can’t wait to share them with you!

I’ve actually talked about one of these before. Sargento has a great line of snacks, Balanced Breaks, that have a small serving of cheese along with nuts and berries. But NOW the company has launched a spinoff with–oh yes–CHOCOLATE! They’re called Sweet Breaks and they come in a variety of flavors. This is the one I chose:

I really like the original and the new one did NOT disappoint! It was nice to have something sweet to offset the savory of the cheese and, at only 170 calories, it makes a great snack! These get an A+!

I know I’ve told you before that my all-time favorite dessert is cheesecake. I firmly believe that cheesecake was brought to this world as a gift from the heavens. Seriously. The only drawback is that it has so many calories. Womp, womp. That’s why when I saw this, I was SO. FREAKING. EXCITED.

These cheesecake cups come in at only 170 calories and there are no artificial flavors or dyes used in any of the four flavors! I couldn’t wait to give this a try!

This was…okay. I mean, it wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t the same as a piece of cheesecake (that would’ve been a miracle, actually). But it still satisfied my sweet tooth and kept me from pigging out on something else! I think next time I’ll crumble up a reduced fat graham cracker on top!

Happy Tuesday, errybody! This weekend was my birthday and I planned on doing two things: napping and partaking in an ungodly amount of cheesecake. Cheesecake is to me what cookies are to Cookie Monster. Seriously.

A week ago, my sister sent me this video on Facebook of Fruity Pebbles Cheesecake and I immediately asked her to make it for my birthday lunch at my parents! (Fruity Pebbles is my FAVORITE cereal!) Thankfully, she obliged and its today’s Try It Tuesday!

Here’s what you need:

img_0955

`4 cups Fruity Pebbles cereal, plus more for garnish

~1/3 cup melted butter

~1/4 teaspoon salt

~No Bake Cheesecake Mix by Jell-O (the original recipe calls for other ingredients, but we have folks in the family whose tummies can’t handle heavy whipping cream)

Process cereal in a food processor until it’s very fine. (Not like, “Dang, Benedict Cumberbatch is fine!” but like, “really small”.) Then, measure 2 1/2 cups of the cereal into a large bowl and set the rest to the side. Add the melted butter and salt to the cereal and mix well. Pour your crust into a pie pan and shape it to the pan, making sure to bring the mixture up the sides of the pan. Cover and freeze for about 15 minutes, or until firm.

Mix the no bake cheesecake according to the directions on the box, adding in the extra cereal. Pour into the pie crust and smooth. Place it back in the fridge for at least an hour.

When ready to serve, top with more cereal as a garnish. Then, dig in!

I REALLY liked this! I mean, its cheesecake and Fruity Pebbles—what’s not to like?! Not everyone shared my enthusiasm. Let’s just say I took almost an entire cheesecake home with me. (And I was not complaining!)

You may not know this (actually, it’d be weird if you did) but my dad loves trying out new recipes (the guy is ALWAYS on Pinterest) or finding a recipe and making it his own by tweaking a few things. Sunday night, he treated us to one such recipe and its today’s Try it Tuesday! He found this recipe on AllRecipes.com, but decided to try it minus the banana-flavors!

Here’s what he used:

pie-4

1 graham cracker pie crust

1 package cream cheese, softened

2 (3.5 ounce) packages instant pudding mix (dad used cheesecake and caramel)

3 1/2 cups milk

1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

In a medium-sized bowl, whip the cream cheese until fluffy.

pie2-1

Then, add in the remaining ingredients and mix until well blended.

pie2-2

Pour the mixture into the graham cracker crust and refrigerate for at least two hours.

pie2-3

pie-1

Then, serve! We topped ours with Cool Whip, caramel drizzle, and hot fudge! Mmm!

pie-2

pie-3

This turned out pretty good! It tasted like turtle cheesecake! Dad sad that next time he makes it, he’ll be sure that the cream cheese is soft enough (there were still some lumps in the pie). But even with the lumps, it was still tasty!

So, you all know how I am OBSESSED with cheesecake, right?

I eat it.

I dream about it.

I may have even married it had Huff the Hubs not come along.

But, sadly, my love affair with the creamy dessert has come to an end now that I have baby weight I want to lose.

Or has it?

I found an AMAZING recipe on Pinterest and was super excited to try it out. Its healthy, packed with protein, AND low calorie. The best part? ITS CHEESECAKE.

All you need are three ingredients:

photo

~Sugar free, fat free Jello-O Cheesecake mix

~Milk (the recipe called for almond milk, but I used regular milk)

~plain yogurt (the recipe called for Chobani, but I’ve bad things about it so I bought Fage)

First, mix up 1 cup of yogurt, 2 tbsp of the Jell-O mix, and 1/4 cup milk until its creamy.

Then, pour in a small dish (it makes 2 servings–each only 100 calories!) and poof! Done.

See how easy that was?! And–best part–it actually tastes GOOD! I am so jazzed because now I can satisfy my sweet tooth and still stay on track to lose weight! *cue the happy dance*

Try It Tuesday

Happy Tuesday, people!

If you’re still in need of some dessert ideas, have I got one for you!

Today’s Try It is PERFECT for Thanksgiving. Its delicious, decadent, AND already in single-serve portions (so you don’t indulge too much).

My sister, Bridget, found this pin on Pinterest:

Two of my favorite things: Oreo and cheesecake.

Two of my favorite things: Oreo and cheesecake.

First, she gathered her ingredients:

This is all you need!

This is all you need!

That’s right! All she needed was a pack of Oreos and a Jello-O No Bake Cheesecake.

First, she lined her cupcake tin with cupcake cups. Then, she placed Oreos in each one:

O-R-E-O-S.

O-R-E-O-S.

Then, she mixed up the cheesecake:

Mmm...cheesecake.

Mmm…cheesecake.

Then, she poured the cheesecake mixture over the cookies:

Ooooh yeaaahh...

Ooooh yeaaahh…

To add a little pizzazz, she ground up some Oreos in the food processor and sprinkled them on top:

Best. Garnish. Ever.

Best. Garnish. Ever.

Ta da!

OMG, you guys, this was So. Freaking. Good. I may  have eaten two. Okay, three. Okay, three and a half. Seriously guys, this is one of the simplest, tastiest desserts I’ve ever had!

Treat Yo Self!

Whilst on maternity leave, I probably made the greatest purchase of my life: a subscription to Netflix.

Because of said purchase, I have been binge watching all the shows I’ve always wanted to watch. One of these shows is Parks and Recreation.

This show is HILARIOUS. Seriously, if you’ve never watched, do it. Its awesome. Anyway, moving on…

In one of the episodes, Tom (played by Aziz Ansari) and Donna (played by Retta–so cool she only needs one name) are celebrating their annual day of pleasure called: Treat Yo Self Day. What is Treat Yo Self Day? Let my homies explain:

Naturally, this episode cracked me up. But then I started thinking: What if did Treat Yo Self Day? What would I do?

Here’s my TYS game plan (if I ever get to have a TYS Day):

1. Eat three courses of cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory.

Treat yo self.

2. Buy the Body Bugg heart rate monitor I’ve always wanted (so I can make sure I’ve burned of all the calories from the cheesecake).

Treat yo self.

3. Get a massage, facial, and scalp treatment.

Treat yo self.

4. Watch two movies back to back in the Warren Theater Director’s Suites and order the biggest popcorn imaginable.

Treat yo self.

5. Buy something from Sky Mall. I don’t really care what it is, honestly. I just REALLY want to buy something from Sky Mall.

Treat yo self.

6. Buy the boxed set of Frasier and watch it while drinking a milkshake.

Treat. Yo. Self.

What would you do to treat yo self?

Donna. Droppin' truth bombs.
