Hey y’all! Today I have two Try Its for you! One is so not healthy and the other is a great way to hit your macros and feel like you’re indulging when you’re really not!

 

Remember when Oreo had the mystery flavor and it was disgusting? Yeah, me too. Well they have officially redeemed themselves because they have a new special edition flavor out–kettle corn!

I REALLY like this flavor! It truly tastes like kettle corn! I seriously couldn’t get enough of these and had to restrain myself from eating the whole package because they were THAT good! Kettle corn is just one of three flavors the cookie giant has released this spring! They also have piña colada and cherry cola!

 

While grocery shopping a week or so ago, I looked for something that would satisfy my sweet tooth but also had protein and not a lot of calories (I was trying to be good since I knew I was going to pig out for Mother’s Day weekend, lol). My search led me to this:

One package of Think Thin’s protein cakes touts 12 grams of protein and only 170 calories! I was ready to try these! The other day after the kiddos had gone to bed, I decided to dig in.

They were actually pretty good! They definitely had that “protein bar taste” but they did satisfy that craving for something sweet and helped me hit my protein goals for the day! They also come in chocolate cake and red velvet!

Y’all know I’m all about the new products–ESPECIALLY when Oreo comes out with a new flavor of their classic cookies! Today I’ve got a two-for-one Try It with a healthy item and a not-so-healthy item!

First up, new Popped Salted Caramel Bites from Kind! I love this company’s snack bars, so when I saw this at the store, I was super excited to try it! These little bites are packed with whole grains: oats, buckwheat, millet, amaranth, quinoa, and popped sorghum as well as yummy popcorn, caramel, and sea salt!

At only 110 calories, this yummy treat is exactly what I’ve been looking for! Its salty, its sweet–its great! Two thumbs WAAAAYYYY up!

 

Up next, the newest flavor of Oreo: Dunkin Donuts Mocha middles Oreo!

Y’all. OH. EM. GEEEEEE! These things were SO tasty! Oreos are basically delicious no matter what flavor (except that whole watermelon phase–bleck!) I love coffee and coffee-flavored stuff, so I thought these were DELISH! I really want to try it swirled in a cup of cappuccino-flavored ice cream! Mmm….

I love cookies. And cake. Basically anything sweet, I’m all about it! Something I don’t love? Baking.

I don’t like gathering countless ingredients, making a giant mess, and then having to clean it all up. So yeah, I can be a giant bummer when Huff the Tot wants to make cookies. However, all that changed this week when I saw this recipe:

A chocolate chip cookie recipe that requires minimal ingredients? YES, PLEASE!

Here’s what you need:

1 box Betty Crocker Butter Recipe Yellow Cake Mix

1 bag Nestle Toll House Semi-Sweet Morsels

½ cup Canola or Vegetable Oil (I used EVOO; I don’t know if it makes a difference or not)

2 eggs

 

First, mix up the cake mix, eggs, and oil. The batter will be THICK. So thick that your beaters may get stuck and fall out of your handheld mixer…

Next, stir in the chocolate chips and refrigerate for one hour:

After an hour, preheat your oven to 350. Roll the dough into small balls and place the dough on lined cookie sheets:

Bake for 7-9 minutes, let cool, and enjoy!

These were really good! They’re not a permanent substitute for homemade chocolate chip cookies, but they are REALLY tasty and the batter made a ton of cookies!

Its titled Frozen Fever and from the looks of the pictures, I’m assuming the story is about Anna’s birthday (given the big ‘Happy Birthday’ banner and all!) and the hilarity that ensues as the gang gets the celebration going!

Try It Tuesday

Am I the only one whose Pinterest feed is blowing up with clean eating recipes? I think its because the Season of Food (that’s what I call the time from Halloween to New Year’s Day) is almost upon us. Soon our bellies will be bulging with leftover candy, casseroles, and cookies galore! So its time to shed a few L-B’s before the “Holiday 15” catches up to us. Good thing I found today’s try it, courtesy of The Burlap Bag!

Here’s all you need:

Clean Eating Cookie (1)

~2 bananas

~1 cup oats

 

THAT’S IT. You can also add in your favorite “extras” (chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, raisins, nuts, coconut shavings, etc). I added chocolate chips and peanut butter chips because…CHOCOLATE and PEANUT BUTTER.

First,  preheat the oven to 350*. Mash up the bananas and stir up with the oats.

Then, add your extras. I used 1 tablespoon of each flavor of baking chips. I also tossed in a teeny bit of vanilla and a sprinkle or two of cinnamon.

After that, I scooped the “dough” into a spoon and dropped it onto a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.

Fifteen minutes later, they were done!

These cookies were DELISH! AND–added bonus–they are super healthy and low in calories!

Try It Tuesday

Today’s Try It Tuesday is legen-wait for it-dary!

Because one of my favorite shows–How I Met Your Mother–aired its last show EVER last night, my sister and I decided to bid farewell to our five friends with a HIMYM-themed treat!

Remember when Lily met The Mother (AKA, Tracy) on the train on the way to Farhampton and they shared some delicious cookies?

I found the recipe on Pinterest! Woo!

 

Here’s what you need:

1 cup butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1 cup creamy peanut butter

2 large eggs

1 tsp. vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp. baking soda

½ tsp. salt

36 bite-size chocolate-covered caramel candy bars (I used Rolos!)

 

First, beat together the first 4 ingredients with an electric mixer until smooth. Then, add in the eggs and vanilla, and blend.

Then, in a small bowl, stir together the flour and the next 2 ingredients. Add that to the butter mixture and blend. Cover the bowl and chill for about 30 minutes. (I actually recommend chilling for maybe 45 minutes to an hour. The dough was SUPER sticky when I tried to roll it).

While the dough is chilling, preheat your oven to 350°F. When the dough is done chilling, get about 2 tablespoons of dough and roll it around a mini candy. Place the dough balls about 3 inches apart on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.

Bake for 13 to 14 minutes or until lightly browned.

Let them cool for about 5 minutes and then dig in!

These cookies were SOOO yummy! I think next time, I’ll try to make the cookies a teensy bit smaller. Maybe use 1 tablespoon of dough instead of 2. That way the dough-to-candy ratio is a bit more even.
