Mommy Monday

Hey, Moms! Guess what? Tomorrow is Halloween. Yes, you read that right. TOMORROW. As in “less-than-ten-hours-from-now-tomorrow”. Got your kid’s costume made yet?

tenor

I’ll take that as a “no”. Don’t worry! I’ve got you covered! Here are some easy-peasy, “I-can-make-this-in-twenty-minutes-or-less-with-a-trip-to-Walmart-or-Dollar-Tree” costumes that are actually creative and will look like you spent months planning!

Paper Doll Costume

All you need to make this costume is poster board (literally $1 at Walmart) and a black Sharpie. That’s it!

Bank Robber

Get your kid a striped shirt (honestly, any color shirt with black stripes will work), a black beanie (hi, Dollar Tree!) and a black mask (yep, DT again!). Don’t have a drawstring bag? Grab a white pillowcase and draw on it with a magic marker. BOOM. Done.

Jake from State Farm

Every little boy probably has a red polo and khakis somewhere in his closet. Borrow a headset from someone (or run to the thrift store!) and you’ve got yourself a clever costume on the cheap. Click the link above and print off an “official” Jake nametag!

Wind Up Doll

This may be the easiest costume. Just dress your little one up in the cutest outfit she has, grab some cardboard, cut out a “winder”, and you’ve got yourself an adorable little doll!

Fork in the Road

Got a black t-shirt? Cut out some white paper and grab that plasticware from last week’s takeout!

Deviled Egg

Walmart/Dollar Tree/Party City/Target has devil horns like crazy! Cut out a yolk and you’ve got yourself a “punny” costume for less than a bag of Halloween candy!

Her’s Day Thursday

Halloween is almost here! I’m not so much into the whole gory, scary, parts of Hallowen–I just lurves the cosplay part of it! I’ve always loved dressing up in costumes. Especially well thought out costumes or creative costumes. I mourn for girls nowadays because, as Mean Girls showed us, Halloween has changed A LOT.

This is why I’m so excited that A Mighty Girl has a complete list of costumes that will empower and inspire young girls! I mean, just look at these awesome costumes!

Fan Girl Friday

Happy Halloween, ghouls and boys! I’ve got some great goodies to make today even more magical! Today’s Fan Girl Friday is all about our favorite boy wizard, Harry Potter!

I think I need to plan another trip to London. There’s an amazing hotel–The Georgian Hotel–that has fully renovated Wizard Chambers! Yes, you read that right, wizard! That means you can actually sleep in a Potter-themed room!

Seriously, I think its worth the almost $300 a night fee! Click here to take the virtual tour! See if you can spot all of the Easter eggs that only true Potterheads will find!

Our beloved author, Queen JK Rowling (okay, she’s not a queen…but she’s literary royalty in my eyes!) has released another short story on her website Pottermore! This one is all about that sugary-sweet-yet-horribly-evil-spawn-of-a-Squib, Dolores Umbridge.

So. Many. Cats.

So. Many. Cats.

Not only does Rowling give us a backstory to Umbridge and her evil ways, but she also opens up at the true inspiration for the awful teacher turned Muggle-hater (turned Azkaban prisoner!).

Have you been watching The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon? If not, you should be! He’s absolutely hilarious and gets so many celebs to do AMAZING things! Like this jaw-dropping rap from The Boy Who Lived himself, Mr. Daniel Radcliffe! Watch!

I sincerely hope you have your costume finished for tonight. If not–and you need some inspiration–take a gander at these Harry Potter themed costumes!

Fan Girl Friday

You guys, I know I say this every week, but I am SO glad that today is Friday. I have NEVER, EVER wanted a day to be behind me as bad as I wanted it to happen to yesterday. I know the only way to get over such a traumatic event is to return to normal as soon as possible, so that’s what I’m doing! So here we go with another excellently eccentric Fan Girl Friday!

Remember as a kid getting those gigantic hologram buttons that said: “Book It!” in huge letters? After you had read so many books, you’d get a sticker to put on your button. After you racked up so many stickers, you could get your own personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut for FREE! Well guess what, 80’s and 90’s kids? Book It is back!

Book It

Book It is celebrating its 30th birthday (hey—that means Book It and I were born in the same year!) and is inviting all of its alums to sign up for the program again! I’ve signed up! Now you need to too!

Ever feel like this in the mornings?

hermione-stressed

A recent study in Great Britain showed that 33% of the nation felt at their absolute worst before 9:00 a.m. The study also found that 49% of Britons can go an entire week without ever receiving a compliment from someone! Well, IKEA was NOT going to let one of their favorite countries suffer an ego-blow like that! They recently placed a “Motivational Mirror” in one of their stores. The mirror dishes out compliments to shoppers from, “Your dress is amazing!” to “I love what you’ve done with your hair!” The reactions were priceless:

I’d like to have one of those for my house!

Halloween is 21 days away! Have you picked out your costume yet? I’m done with mine and *almost* done with Huff the Babe’s. If you’re not the crafty type, but still want to go as something original, check out this awesome light-up Tardis head-band from Think Geek:

You can toss this on your dome, buy this dress from Hot Topic, and BAM! Instant Tardis, instant costume, instant AWESOMENESS.

When I was a kid, we went to Disney World. I remember stopping in one of the areas of DW called “Tomorrowland”. Back in ’89, it looked a little something like this:

tomorrowland

So when I heard there was a movie coming out based on that part of Disney World, I was a little skeptical. Until I saw the trailer. Now? I REALLY want to see it! Check it out for yourself!
