Y’all. This declutter challenge is out to get me. Seriously. I’m starting to think that this challenge was not made for people with kids. I’ve been so behind on the daily cleaning goals for this thing! Last week was okay-ish because I had actually done some purging a while back to get ready for a garage sale I’m having. Plus, I like to get rid of things before the kids’ birthdays and Christmas, so some areas of the house have been decluttered.

Day Eight

Today’s challenge was to discard old books. I’d already gone through the kids’ books and tossed any that were torn beyond repair or donated any that Huff the Tot deemed “too scary”. I’m still working on Huff the Hubs’ collection of how to draw manga books, *eye roll*. (He works full-time, is married to me, and we have two kids. When does this guy think he’s ever going to have time to draw?!)

Day Nine

Today’s task was one I was waiting for: clean out your wallet. I had more receipts than Kim Kardashian had against Taylor Swift!

I seriously had target receipts from December of last year! This was an easy one!

Day Ten

Cleaning out my purse wasn’t as magical as cleaning out my wallet. I typically throw my wallet into a “mom bag” full of diapers, board books, and coloring pages so my purse was pretty much clean already!

Day Eleven

Y’all, my makeup drawer is ridiculous. Not because I necessarily have a lot of stuff, but because of how long I’ve had certain pieces of makeup.

Those three foundations? Yeah, I’ve had those since my wedding SEVEN YEARS AGO. Probably the last time I ever wore it as well. I bought three beforehand so I could test out which one worked best, in case you’re wondering. Also, those lipsticks? I *maybe* have worn them each ONE time. A few I also bought during engagement pictures/wedding time. (If you’re curious about how long to keep makeup, I found this helpful article here!)

Days Twelve to Fourteen

Thankfully, I had recently cleaned out mine and Huff the Hub’s shower, bathroom cabinets, and also went through my old shoes. So I gave myself a pass on those days!

How are you doing on your decluttering? Any tips you’ve learned along the way? Share in the comments below!

Last week, I told y’all I was going to try a 30-day decluttering challenge. At first, I was super excited because I thought, “Oh yay! I’m going to get rid of so much stuff and its going to be such a load lifted off of me! This is going to be SO easy!”

Yeah.

Not so much.

After the first few days, I was starting to lose my mind.

Day One

The first day, I had to empty out one junk drawer. This is everything I cleaned out of the drawer:

I was able to put a lot in the garage to save for my garage sale this summer, and also took some stuff (like the selfie sticks and other fun things) to work to see if anyone else wanted them! After all, one woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure.

Day Two

I was supposed to purge my closet, but I had actually already done that about a month ago so I did a quick once over and decided I was okay.

Day Three

My confidence started to wain on the third day. I had to go through our movie collection. We have our movies stored in CD cases (a small one for kid’s movies, two larger ones for grown-up movies, i.e., PG-13 and up) and yes, they are alphabetized (hashtag OCD has it perks). After Huff the Tot’s birthday and Christmas, however, I hadn’t put any of our new movies into the cases. This meant I had to literally take EVERY. SINGLE. EFFING. movie out of the cases and put them all in alphabetical order. I thought I’d be able to do this during the kids’ nap times. I was sorely mistaken.

It ended up taking me two days, but #blessup, I got it done!

Day Four

Decluttering the TV stand was much simpler after I went through the movies! I had cleared out a lot of space just by taking movies out of the plastic cases they came in and into the binders.

Day Five

Going through our mail pile wasn’t too terrible. Going through our “to file” pile was the filing equivalent of climbing Mount Everest. For reals. It took Huff the Hubs and I almost three hours to go through a pile about a foot and a half tall. I’m not joking. I wanted to take a picture of the pile, but Huff the Hubs had basically thrown the pile all over the floor by the time I got my phone.

Day Six

This was the easiest day! All I had to do was clean off the kitchen table! Woot, woot!

Day Seven

Again, I had already purged kitchen cabinets a few months ago, but I decided to go through a cabinet anyhow because I knew there had to be things we weren’t using. Sure enough, I was right. I moved all the baby bottles and baby food prep/maker to storage and got rid of the cups from Hideaway Pizza and Fuzzy’s. This cleared out A LOT of space!

I feel pretty good now, looking at what all I have gotten rid of (clutter, for some reason, has been a big weight on my anxiety lately) and I’m re-energized for the next three weeks! Have you been doing the declutter challenge? How’s it going? Share in the comments below!
