Fan Girl Friday!

Sorry I was MIA last week. This whole “preppring-to-leave-my-job-of-five-years” thing has been a little crazy! But I’m back! And OMSquee, you guys, I’ve got SO much to tell you!

First, can we just take a moment to lament the fact that we missed San Diego Comic Con?! UGH! I want to go back SO. FRAKKING. BAD. Especially after seeing this A-DORK-ABLE video the folks over at The Nerdist made!

I should have been there! Waaahhh! *Sniff* Okay, moving on.

Y’all, I really think Sherlock fans are some of the best people in the world. Not only because we love a guy with a ridiculous name, but also because we have to wait YEARS in between seasons. So quit your whining, Game of Thrones fans! We know what REAL torture is! And the teaser for the next season of our favorite sleuth just hit the web, making us a tad bit impatient for next year!

So is Moriarty REALLY back? Why is Mrs. Hudson so mad? Will Holmes keep the beard?! These are pressing matters we need answers to STAT.

I kind of feel awkward telling you this next bit of news. See, I only read the fir,st two books of the Divergent series. I don’t even remember seeing the second movie! I also didn’t know that the final book was split into two movies! The final movie is called:

ascendant

Now, for those of you wanting to see it on the big screen, bad news. According to MoviePilot.com, the last film will be released as a TV movie! This is pretty shocking to me! I thought this franchise was pretty successful. Though everyone I know that’s read the final book HATED it. So. Maybe not? What are your thoughts on this?

NASA has been in the news a lot lately, what with the whole Juno entering Jupiter’s orbit and the mission to Mars. And, because NASA is filled with fandom-loving folks such as us (you know, but with doctorates and super smarts) they recently released photos of their new mission patches!

You’re not seeing things; that IS Rocket Raccoon and Groot! According to The Nerdist, NASA hope this will get the general population more interested in what they’re doing:

“The Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) is hoping that putting these characters one their uniforms will help draw eyes to the International Space Station and to their mission in general.”

Here’s hoping they come out with a “NASA Astronaut Awesome Mix Vol. 1” for the mission as well!

Happy Friday, y’all! Today is trailermania on The Huffman Post! I’ve got awesome sneak peeks on much-anticipated movies!

First up, we’ve got The Scorch Trials the second in The Maze Runner series. And, bonus, it opens in theaters today!

Disney is releasing a live-action retelling of their classic The Jungle Book! And by the looks of the trailer, we will not be disappointed, people!

I know many of y’all were none too happy about the ending to the Divergent series, but maybe you’ll be appeased when you watch the newest trailer for the film!

And, finally, the last installment of the Hunger Games saga wraps up this November. When I saw this trailer, titled For Prim, I seriously got goosebumps. Watch and try not to cry!

What’d you think? Have you seen any new trailers that YOU can’t wait to watch in theaters? Share in the comments below!

Scorch Trials

Fan Girl Friday

Ah, another Friday has come and {almost} gone. And it couldn’t have come soon enough!

My To-Do list is about a mile long, so I’ve welcomed surfing the interwebs for some delightfully geeky finds for you!

I am a HUGE Disney-file. So if there’s anything even remotely Disney related, I’m sold. I was wasting time on Pinterest the other day when I came across an AMAZING pin! There’s an artist named Tyson Murphy (he’s great, people) that has taken movie stills from classic animated Disney films and–for lack of a better term–“Pixar-ed” them. Check out what he did with 101 Dalmatians:

Just when you thought Disney couldn’t get any better!

I know I highlight jewelry a lot on here, but I can’t help it! Especially when it includes a fandom like Divergent! Check out this lovely Abnegation-themed necklace from the Etsy shop, ChristaLinaSales!

She has a necklace for all the factions as well as Disney-themed jewelry! Go check out her store!

This weekend is JAM-PACKED with events. Seriously. I think Sunday I’ll need to be sure I rest and relax. Maybe curl up with my Tardis blanket and throw on a pair of these:

K9 Slippers

Companions for your feet!

And finally, it seems as though everyone that has seen Frozen–young and old–absolutely LURVES it! Whats not to love? Strong female lead? Check. Kick-a music? Check. Adorable rock trolls? Check, check, check. If you just can’t get enough Frozen, click here to hear SIX bonus songs that didn’t make the cut into the final version of the film! Even Anna and Kristoff are excited:

Comic Con: A Recap

You’re all probably sick of me writing about Comic Con. And, if you are, then I have only one thing to say to you:

Now that that’s settled, lets move on.

Comic Con was last week and sadly, I was not there. However I did do a lot of internet searching stalking and found out some awesome tidbits about all the nerdy things I (and many of you) love!

First up, the movies!

Divergent

Tris and Four

Tris and Four

At the Divergent panel, the stars talked about the movie adaptation of one of my new favorite dystopian series. From what I gather around the interwebs, the cast was pretty vague about what was going to happen in the movie/how close to the book it would be. Although Shailene Woodley (AKA, Tris) did say she was excited to see how the scene where Christina is held over the chasm turns out in the final cut!

Catching Fire

Oh yes, JLaw and JHutch were at this year’s SDCC with all the Quarter Quell scoop! I couldn’t find any video of the actual panel, but I’m really hoping that the guy that plays Finnick was there in his net toga. I’m sure the fangirls would’ve went wild! Even if he wasn’t, they surely flip their lids when they saw the NEW trailer for CF! I dare you to not get goosebumps:

Captain America: Winter Soldier

Back off, Black Widow!

Back off, Black Widow!

According to what I’ve read on various geeky sites, the sequel to Captain America is going to be EPIC. We’re going to see Capt. Steve Rogers like we’ve never seen him before. He’s more confident after leading the Avengers in NYC, and is ready to take on anything (except maybe pop culture references that have nothing to do with flying monkeys). And, according to many con-goers, there’s a steamy kissing scene between the Captain and Black Widow. I know a certain sister of mine who is NOT going to be happy about that!

Batman/Superman

Zack Snyder pretending to be Chris Hardwick.

Zack Snyder pretending to be Chris Hardwick.

Oh yes, my friends, the rumors are true. At the Man of Steel panel, director Zach Snyder broke the news that a Batman/Superman flick is in the works and should be released in 2015! Henry Cavill will come back as the wonder boy from Krypton, as will Amy Adams and Diane Lane. The question is now, who will be Batman? Christian Bale has already said he’s hung up the cowl for good, so he will not be returning. My vote? Joseph Gordon Levitt. I really hope they do this right. Maybe Snyder should call up Joss Whedon for some advice…?

And now for the television shows!

The Walking Dead

Hey Rick, how you doin'?

Hey Rick, how you doin’?

OMZ. I am so freaking excited for the new season of The Walking Dead! I actually got to watch the trailer online a few days ago (okay, I’ve watched it like, 4 times now) and I got chills Every. Single. Time. The peeps from the jail are back and have a new sense of survival. Rick’s back from his CrazyTown trip and is finally back to the Rick we know and love. Carl’s hair is still growing and Daryl still looks like the hottest homeless man in the world. Now that the whole Woodbury fiasco is over and done with, the show can get back to the main point of it all: ZOMBIES. Holy crap were there a lot of undead walking around in that trailer! Don’t believe me? Just take a look…

Vampire Diaries

Like a boss.

Like a boss.

This year’s season finale of VD left me going: “OMG!” and “Whaaa—?”

Whilst I was shocked by some of the things that happened (Bonnie dying, Jeremy coming back to life, Katherine becoming human, and Stefan being Silas’ doppelganger, I was also confused. Why would Klaus just up and leave? (Because of the spinoff, duh) And if the hunters are all alive, why can’t Bonnie be alive too? I thought all the supernatural’s were supposed to cross back through the veil…? Anyway, at Comic Con last week the VD panel showed a new trailer for this season and I am so stoked! I remember when I went to Comic Con and on preview night, we got to see the first episode of the show. I looked over at my sister when the credits rolled and said: “Um, we HAVE to watch this!”

link this to Johnny Galecki:

Big Bang Theory

From what I gathered, the panel for TBBT was supposed to just be writers…not really something you get too worked up about. But, in true Comic Con fashion, there were a few surprises to be revealed. Melissa Rauch (AKA Bernadette) stepped out to a roar of applause when introduced as the panel’s moderator. When Rauch opened the panel up for questions from the audience, someone dressed as Boushh (AKA Princess Leia’s alter ego in Return of the Jedi) with mask and all, Rauch exclaimed: “Reveal yourself!” To which the Boushh impersonator took off his helmet and replied: “Someone who loves you!” It was none other than Dr. Hofstadter himself, Mr. Johnny Galecki! The crowd of course went wild and Johnny joined the panel of writers. When the audience members asked what we could see in season 7, the writers threw them a bone: we’ll see Leonard on the ship working with Stephen Hawking’s crew, Amy and Bernadette are going to take a trip sans Penny, and when asked if Amy and Sheldon would ever take their relationship to the next level (nudge, nudge; wink, wink) the writer’s said: “It’s a very good possibility!” *Cue the middle school “Ooooooh”s! The panel concluded with a very special (and funny) video from Stephen Hawking:

Big Brother Is Watching…And Reading.

With all the hullabaloo of the government tracking phone calls and watching what we search, it got me thinking about how we aren’t that far from those dystopian novels I love so much. This also led me to think about my favorite dystopian books. So I thought I’d share them with you! Any one of these would be a perfect summer read! AND most can be found at your local library!

1. 1984

1984

This is probably not only my favorite dystopian novel, but quite possibly my favorite book of all time. In 1984, George Orwell tells the story of Winston Smith, living in Oceania (once Great Britain) after a war that tore the world apart. I love Winston’s character and how, even though Big Brother is watching everything, he still questions everything.

2. The Hunger Games series

The Hunger Games

I couldn’t have a list of dystopian novels without including this series. Suzanne Collins’ Katniss is the reluctant heroin in this trilogy, eventually coming to grips with who she is and grabbing on to her destiny with both hands; rebelling against the control of the evil Capitol.

3. Animal Farm

animal farm

Yet another Orwellian classic. Animal Farm follows the rise and fall of the animals (most notably the pigs, Napoleon and Snowball) on Manor Farm. This short novel is an allegory not only of the Russian Revolution, but also, I think, of the way our government is working today.

4. Divergent series

divergent

Veronica Roth’s series (book 3 comes out in November) about Beatrice Prior, living in a city that is divided into four factions: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave) and Erudite (the intelligent). Each year, the children of the factions that are of age can decide to stay in their faction or chose another. Beatrice

On my “to read list”:

~The Maze Runner (I’ve only read the first chapter)

~The Giver (My sister teaches fourth grade and usually reads this to her students every year. She said it’s a “must read”!)

What about you? What dystopian books do you like? Have you read any of these?
