Fan Girl…Monday?

fan-girl-friday-lego-banner

Yes, yes, I know… Its not Friday. So why am I doing a Fan Girl Friday post? Well, last week was a tad bit hectic. I worked some extra days last week to make up for the day I missed with the oh-so-fun stomach bug so the kids were off their schedules (and their rockers!) so I didn’t get a whole lot done last week. Ergo, no FGF. But, with Valentine’s Day TOMORROW, I knew I had to share some geeky goodies for the fangirl (or boy!) in your life!

This adorable Beauty and the Beast sleep set from Hot Topic!

Married men tend to think that their wives need a lot of fancy things–diamonds, expensive dinners, imported chocolates… But what we really want is for you to stop farting, pick up your mess, and let us sleep in. Which is why this G-Rated book titled, “Porn for Women” can be considered the married man’s guide to romance!

The description of the book says it all: “Prepare to enter a fantasy world where clothes get folded just so, toilet seats are down, and flatulence is just not that funny.  Our G Rated book, Porn For Women, showcases beautiful photos of hunky men cooking, listening, and asking for directions.”

JK Rowling is not only an amazing writer, but she is incredibly loyal to her fans. She knows that, even thought Harry is grown with kids of his own, we’re still chomping at the bit for any kind of wizarding world news. This week on Pottermoe, JK announced more information about wizarding history in America and the magical ruling body–The Magical Congress of the United States of America–MACUSA, for short.

macusa_in-article-image

Here’s a little tidbit:

“America remained one of the most hostile environments for magical people, mainly because of Scourer descendants who had vanished permanently into the No-Maj community and who kept suspicion of magic alive. Unlike most Western countries, there was no cooperation between the No-Maj government and MACUSA….

It was in Washington that President Elizabeth McGilliguddy presided over the infamous ‘Country or Kind?’ debate of 1777. Thousands of witches and wizards from all over America descended upon MACUSA to attend this extraordinary meeting, for which the Great Meeting Chamber had to be magically enlarged. The issue for discussion was: did the magical community owe their highest allegiance to the country in which they had made their homes, or to the global underground wizarding community? Were they morally obliged to join American No-Majs in their fight for liberation from the British Muggles? Or was this, simply put, not their fight?

The arguments for and against intervention were protracted and the fight became vicious. Pro-interventionists argued that they might be able to save lives; anti-interventionists that wizards risked their own security by revealing themselves in battle. Messengers were sent to the Ministry of Magic in London to ask whether they intended to fight. A four-word message returned: ‘Sitting this one out.’ McGilliguddy’s famous response was even shorter: ‘Mind you do.’ While officially the American witches and wizards did not engage in battle, unofficially there were many instances of intervention to protect No-Maj neighbours and the wizarding community celebrated Independence Day along with the rest of American society – although not necessarily alongside them.

One of the most significant American magical laws was created in 1790, when MACUSA approved an edict to enforce total segregation of the wizarding and No-Maj communities. Rappaport’s Law, named after then-President Emily Rappaport, was created as a result of one of the worst breaches of the International Statute of Secrecy ever known, a breach in which the daughter of Rappaport’s Keeper of Treasure and Dragots and a Scourer descendant almost exposed the existence of magic worldwide. With the passing of Rappaport’s Law, intermarriage and even friendship between wizards and No-Majs became illegal in the United States.”

I don’t really wear too much makeup. And, to be honest, I don’t really spend a lot of money on my makeup (Hello, ELF!) But if this Reddit dream became a reality, I’d totes drop the Sickles for it!

The Reddit user, Spellsandstars, says that while these were just a fun little craft to throw together, that she’s starting to think about making them a reality! I may have to watch some of her makeup tutorials, though, because this momma barely knows how to apply eyeliner!

Get ready to squeal with delight, fanboys and fangirls! I’ve got movie, book, and fandom news GALORE! Let’s jump right in, shall we?

I belong to many fandoms. But the two that take up the most space in my heart are lightning bolt-shaped and Tardis-shaped. So when I read this article, my little HPWhovian soul could barely take it!

The spin-off to the beloved HP series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them may have finally found their leading man in none other than the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith!

"Do I hear a Crumpled Horn Snorkack?!"

“Do I hear a Crumpled Horn Snorkack?!”

Yep, we could see the fezzed timelord as wizard naturalist Newt Scamander! Fingers crossed!

And speaking of the wizarding world, check out what a bunch of BYU students did over there spring break!

“Fill my goblet, put some fire in it!”

When I was growing up, Nickelodeon had some AWESOME shows: Rocko’s Modern Life, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, and of course, Clarissa Explains it All. I miss those shows. The line-up on Nickelodeon these days is–how do I saw this diplomatically?–crap. I feel so sad that I don’t know what happened to my favorite characters as they grew up because iCarly took their place.

clarissa

But, thanks to Clarissa creator, Mitchell Kriegman, I can dry my eyes. A new book chronicling the life of Clarissa Darling as she becomes a young adult is about to hit the shelves! The novel, titled Things I Can’t Explain, starts around Clarissa’s 20th birthday and, according to Kriegman, will have our heroine dealing with “new issues that are pretty unexplainable.” The book hits stores this November! EEEEEEEE!!!

The Walking Dead season finale is this Sunday! And, from the sound of it, I think we need to keep the hankies handy. The producers of the show have been hinting at “big losses” to the main cast for quite some time now. (*Spoiler Alert*!) Fans of the graphic novel know that our sweet Glenn met his demise not too long ago, and I’m afraid that we will be saying goodbye to Stephen Yeun this weekend.

twd

On the bright side, the spin-off series to TWD finally has a title: Fear The Walking Dead. Not too original, but at least fans will know what to look for in the TV Guide!

Excited about any of the movie/TV news? Know any? Tell me in the comments below!

Fan Girl Thursday

I know its not Friday, but who says we can’t fangirl a day early?

This has been a great week of “squee”-worthy finds from all over the interwebs!

I used to have TEN TV shows I watched. TEN. A few were cancelled and few are on hiatus until the fall. Which means there’s an open slot of television time for this white girl. And I think I know what I’m going to fill it with!

This fall, Fox is running a prequel to my favorite fictional city (aside from Minas Tirith)–Gotham Freaking City. The series titled–what else?–Gotham follows a young detective named Jim Gordon as he tries to rid the streets of Bruce Wayne’s hometown before the caped crusader flew into existence. I think it looks really good:

The Amazing Spiderman 2 debuted last weekend (I didn’t see it…did you?) meaning that Emma Stone and her real–and reel (see what I did there?)–life boyfriend Andrew Garfield have been hitting up the late night circuit, promoting the new flick. Andrew stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (sans tights) to showcase one of his hidden talents:

I have already received about 10 invitations to weddings this summer. Although sadly, none have had this awesome of an invite. I seriously think Huff the Hubs and I need to redo our wedding just so we can do this! (Click the link for more)

harry potter wedding (2)

Now that we’re living with my sister, our evenings are filled with Oreos, wine, and lots of laughing at fart jokes. I think its time to add a little refinery to our household. And I’m pretty sure I’ve found JUST the thing!

pride and predjudice board game

Its Pride and Prejudice: The Board Game! Bingley’s the name and marriage is the game! Here’s the way to win: Elizabeth and Darcy, Jane and Bingley, Lydia and Wickham or Charlotte and Mr. Collins–pick one of four couples from the novel and maneuver them separately or together through town and countryside.  Be the first to collect all game tokens, then race to the Parish Church to marry and win the game!”

My sister and I made Huff the Hubs watch Pitch Perfect the other night, which has made me a little obsessed with acapella groups. So when I saw this on Pinterest, of course I HAD to repin. And watch. Seven times.

Welcome to the 75th Hunger Games!

Its the day we’ve waited for since this time last year, Tributes! Oh yes, its opening day for Catching Fire! *NERD SQUEEEE*!!!

If you haven’t seen the trailer for this, you’ve obviously been living under a rock. It looks AMAZING. I know when beloved books are made into a movie, they sometimes leave out important or fan-loved elements (don’t even get me started on the lack of S.P.E.W. in Harry Potter or the fact that they left out Madge Undersee in the first Hunger Games movie) so I’ve prepared myself for that. However, there are still so many scenes I cannot wait for (and hope they do right).

The Arena

When the arena was described in the book, I had a specific idea of what I thought it should look like. And, from what I could see from the trailer, it looks like what I envisioned:

Tick tock.

Tick tock.

Finnick

Does this one really need an explanation?

"Sugar cube?"

“Sugar cube?”

The Jabberjay Scene

When I read this part in the movie, I seriously got choked up and almost boo-hooed. You know the scene: Katniss is in the arena and thinks she hears her sister, Prim. When she gets to where she believes Prim’s voice is coming from, she only sees Jabberjays. And then craziness ensues.

I think Katniss could use a Xanax.

I think Katniss could use a Xanax.

Finnick carrying Mags

I loved Finnick and Mags’ relationship in the book. Because they were from the same District (and Mag’s sacrifice–spoiler! You find out in Book 3) they have a close bond. I’m looking forward to seeing that on the big screen.

Run, Finnick, run!

Run, Finnick, run!

Katniss and Peeta’s Relationship

Katniss kind of makes me mad in the second book. Mostly because she starts to remind me of Bella. BUT, I do like how Peeta and Katniss’s relationship really blossoms and turns into (what the audience knows) is true love (even though Katniss is too stubborn to see it). I just hope that the filmmakers (and actors) get it right!

Representin' District 12.

Representin’ District 12.

I’m sure that I’ll love the movie. I will admit, the first time I saw Hunger Games I wasn’t sure how I felt, but the more I watched it, the more I liked it. And…I’m also sure that there will be elements that were in the book left out of the movie. Which, will probably cause a big bout of nerd rage.

Preach.

Preach.

But, I guess that’s what we fangirls and boys know we’re getting into when our beloved books, comic books, or graphic novels hit Hollywood. What scenes are you most looking forward to?
