Fan Girl Friday!

Fan Girl Friday Mario Badge

Happy Friday, peeps! I realized this week I haven’t done a Fan Girl Friday in TWO WEEKS! I know; bad, blogger! But I’ve found some geeky goodies and nerdy news to help you kick off your V-Day weekend!

A few weeks ago, I was out running errands and saw the COOLEST window cling! So when I got home, I immediately searched for it online and found it on Etsy!

Fan Girl Friday Hogwarts Honor Student

Seriously, how cute is this?! I need this for the Mom-mobile. I mean, my kid’s name is Hermione so its perfect, right?

And speaking of the magical world of HP, JoAnn’s Fabrics has recently acquired some new Potter prints!

Fan Girl Friday Harry Potter Fabric

AHH! Excuse me while I go spend an unholy amount of Sickles on this fabric…

You guys know I’m a HUGE fan of Friends. I quote it at least once a day and I’ve watched the entire series all the way through probably a dozen times. So when I saw this, I got all floopy!

Fan Girl Friday Friends Candle

There’s a Kickstarter campaign to help a candle maker start his business including a line of Friends inspired aromatherapy candles! The “Ross” is called “Pivot! Pivot! Pivot!” (totally fitting). I really hope the “Monica” is called “Monana”.

You know when you travel and you consider your favorite destination your second home? That’s how I feel about London. And I think I need to go back for a fourth time, because the one and only Sir Ian McKellen is going to be riding around a double decker!

Fan Girl Friday Sir Ian McKellen hosting bus tours of London

Yep, in celebration of the British Film Institute’s Shakespeare on Film program (which was started by McKellen) Gandalf himself will be serving as a tour guide, showing tourists filming locations from his film Richard III. According to Radio Times, the white wizard said:

“I always thought it might be fun to take a bus tour around the sites of Richard III. You would watch snippets of the film and then arrive at the actual location,” [McKellen] said. “I want to be the tour leader.”

Let’s pack our bags, people!

Happy fangirling!

Bear Down

Here lately, I’ve noticed that I’ve been clenching my teeth. I won’t even be doing anything stressful–or even feel stressed–but my teeth are clenched tight.

teeth grinding

My teeth have been super sensitive the past few months and I’ve been getting headaches more frequently. I thought it was because I needed caffeine, but I attribute it to my teeth clenching.

When I Googled: “How to stop clenching my teeth” one of the answers basically said that teeth grinding (also called bruxism) is caused by stress. So, just don’t be stressed.

Another website said that there could be many things that are causing me to clench teeth:

~Too much caffeine

~Too much alcohol

~Not enough sleep

~Work stress

~Not enough exercise

~Poor diet

Well…I’m not giving up my coffee or Diet Coke. Sorry. Can’t happen. I need it because I’m not getting enough sleep. I haven’t had alcohol in FOREVER (I can’t bring myself to pump and dump; breast milk is liquid gold). Of course I’m not getting enough sleep–I have an almost one year old. Work stress? Not even touching that one. And I exercise and eat right. So I don’t see what I can do to stop my teeth clenching. Maybe I should get one of those mouth guards like Joey.

Do you clench your teeth? What do you do to make yourself stop? How do you relieve stress?

This week there was a story on Yahoo about American’s biggest pet peeves. The top five were: rude people, slobs, late people, loud talkers, and crappy travelers (i.e., people that stuff too much in overhead bins or sit in the wrong seat).

I have a long list of things that annoy me. A few are on that list and some may seem ridiculous but I honestly don’t care. There are certain things that just grate on my nerves! A lot of them have to do with sounds. My family jokes and says I suffer from misophonia (I seriously think I may have this!):

Not to be outdone by the people polled by Yahoo, I have compiled my own list of my biggest annoyances (in no particular order):

The bluetooth headset

I’m not opposed to the headset itself I’m opposed to the people that wear it EVERYWHERE. Why do you need your bluetooth in church? Why do need your bluetooth while pumping gas? Why do you need a bluetooth if you’re not trading stocks?!

I. HATE. SMACKING. Its disgusting (I don’t want to see your food being masticated), its rude (seriously, didn’t your mom teach you better?!), and its really off-putting (I will wrinkle my nose at you).  When I was a kid, smacking was no-no. And as an adult, it should stay a no-no!

I’m sure there are some great teens out there and I don’t want to use a broad generalization and make some of you teens feel bad. But there are so many times that I want to just grab a youth by their shoulders, shake them, and say: “Pull up your pants!”; “Tights are not leggings!”; and “Pick up your feet when you walk!”

Incorrect Use of Your/You’re

Call me a Grammar Nazi all you want. I don’t care. If being well-educated on the proper usage of words makes me a Grammar Nazi, then I wear that badge proudly!

What are your pet peeves? Perhaps blogs that talk about how they’re annoyed by some of the things you do? Grammar Nazis? Or maybe, animals dressed as humans?

Get Ready

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Are you excited?!

I am.

I know how I’ll be spending my morning:

macy's parade

I’ve already taken the necessary precautions by making sure my wardrobe is not too tight: big pants

I’ve decided which foods I plan to gorge myself on:

ron hogwarts

And those to avoid:

jiggly cranberry

I’ve resigned myself to the fact that someone in my family is going to do something incredibly dumb and will be the subject of jokes for the next few family functions:

monica turkey

And I’ve got my list written (and maps to the stores) for Black Friday shopping:

black friday

In other words, “Let’s do this!”

I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving and a safe Black Friday! I’ll see you Monday!

Pop Culture Pregnancy/Baby Moments

With my pregnancy winding down, I’ve had to really take it easy. This involves a lot of time on the couch, watching movies, TV, and balancing snacks on my belly. This afternoon, I started thinking about all of my favorite pregnancy-related movie and TV show moments. I know there HAS to be more than this, but these were all the ones my pregnant-brain could think up!

1. She’s Having a Baby, My Baby and Me

Who doesn’t love I Love Lucy? Lucille Ball was and is my favorite all-time comedienne. She was ground-breaking, not only for having her own show, but for being the first woman to be on television whilst with child. (Although, the studio wouldn’t allow her to say “pregnant” on air due to censors, but still! Ground-breaking, people!) This episode where Lucy finds out she’s preggo and decides to tell Ricky always makes me grin like a goober!

2. “‘Ello Dad!”

Ah yes, all of the Whovians know exactly what I’m talking about already. The episode titled The Doctor’s Daughter had me freaking out before I watched it. I was like, “Who the heck does the Doctor get pregnant?! Is it Donna?! Does The Doctor get a message from the alternate universe where Rose is saying he has to pay child support?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!”
(Sidebar: The woman who played the daughter {Georgia Moffett} is actually the daughter of Peter Davison, the fifth Doctor. And, she is now married to David Tennant. And they have daughter. Weird, right?!)

3. Teenage Pregnancy: Awkward and Uncomfortable. Put it music? Still awkward, but now with rhythm.

First, let me preface by saying I’m not a “Gleek”. The acting tends to wear on my nerves and I get irritated when they take songs I love and destroy them. However, my sister had me watch a few episodes and I’m actually glad she did. This one in particular made me giggle out of pure embarrassment. Cheerleader Quinn has not revealed to her parents that she totally pulled a Juno and got knocked up in high school. Finn, being the sweetie that he is, wants to show his support (and singing chops) by spilling the beans over dinner…and music.

(R.I.P. Cory 😦 )

4. The One Where Rachel Has the Baby

You know I can’t have a countdown without my Friends!

The episodes where Rachel goes past her due date and then gives birth to her and Ross’s love child always cracks me up. And now that I’m in the “I’m-so-uncomfortable-just-breathing-is-difficult” stage of pregnancy, I can really relate to the girl from Long Island.

5. “Shane, you are NOT the father!”

Straight out of an episode of Maury–well, an episode that includes a zombie apocalypse–comes Lori’s baby daddy drama on The Walking Dead.  I honestly think that Rick is Judith’s father; I mean, the girl’s not tan enough–or creepy enough–to be Shane’s. That being said, when the episode came along that Lori was pregnant, it made me like her a little bit better. Mostly because its hard to wish anything bad on a pregnant woman (even if that woman is and idiot). Then when Maggie brought the baby into the world in a scene that terrified me to my very soul, I couldn’t help but shed a tear. And then laugh at the internet memes that popped up just a few hours later:

walking dead

Favorite Thanksgiving Moments

With Thanksgiving only a week away, I did two things: 1., freaked out because I haven’t packed for our ski trip (we leave the day after Thanksgiving) and 2., thought about all of my favorite Thanksgiving memories. Most of them, in one way or another, involve some aspect of pop culture.

With that, I give you: My Favorite Pop Culture Thanksgiving Moments (I really should’ve spent more time on the title…)

1. Joey’s Thanksgiving Pants

In The One with the Rumor, Monica makes an entire turkey JUST for Joey. She tells him he absolutely must eat the entire turkey since he begged for one. And, of course, hilarity ensues.

(Btw, how yummy was Brad Pitt int hat episode? What am I saying, the guy is still yummy!)

2. The BC Clark Song

For those Oklahomans out there, you know the holidays are upon us when the BC Clark Jingle/commercial starts running on air. It just doesn’t feel like Thanksgiving/Christmas/Hanukah/Kwanzaa without it. And even though it has Santa in the ad, the commercial usually begins its campaign on Thanksgiving.

3. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

I still love watching the parade! It makes me feel like a kid again (you’d think the abundance of Legos and Doctor Who plush toys around this childless apartment would help in that area) and makes me think of simpler times. I love loafing around in my jammies, eating cinnamon rolls and watching people try to hold on to the ginormous balloons.

4. Black Friday

I. LOVE. BLACK. FRIDAY. Its basically a whole ‘nother holiday in my family. We make shirts, form teams, and really get into it. After we shop, we normally rendevouz at the local Waffle House to exchange war stories over fried eggs and coffee.

BF ’09. Left to right: Iceman, Hollywood, Charlie, Goose, Maverick, Jester, Viper, and Cougar.

BF ’10. “Paratrooping for Deals”. New recruit: Merlin.

BF ’11. “In brightest day, in blackest night, no deal shall escape our sight.”

5. Black Friday Parodies

Thanksgiving before last, my family was primed and ready for Black Friday. Even though I had bronchitis/strep (that I later passed to everyone in my family) we still went out for the shopping event of the year. We also laughed ourselves silly at Anne Hathaway’s hosting gig on SNL.

“That’s right, coked up rooster!”

What are you most looking forward to on Turkey Day?
