Try It Tuesday

The other day, I was picking up a few things at Walmart and I passed the gluten free section. I like to stop and look because my mother-in-law and a good friend of mine both have Celiac and whenever I see new, GF products I like to mention it to them.

One item in particular caught my eye. It touted that it was not only gluten free but vegan, non gmo, and grain free! Plus, it also had spinach hidden in it! Intrigued, I grabbed a pouch and tossed it into my basket.

I was super excited to try these and test them out on my kiddos. I followed the instructions and baked those puppies ASAP.

When they first came out of the oven and cooled for a few minutes, I tried one.

IMG_4408

I wasn’t too impressed.

Huff the Hubs and Huff the Tot, however, LOVED them!

IMG_4410

Kid-approved!

It wasn’t until the next day when I tried a brownie without heating it up that I saw what they were talking about.

HOLY MACKEREL, THESE THINGS ARE DELICIOUS!

I think they just need time to cool, settle, and let all the ingredients “mush” together for a bit. I will absolutely be buying these again!

A few things I’ll do differently next time:

~Pour them into a bigger pan than an 8×8. The package said to bake them for 20-22 minutes. In my 8×8 pan (like it recommends on the package) it took 45 minutes and the middle of the brownies were still gooey.

~Add in 1 tablespoon Enjoy Life chocolate chips. The reason I say this brand is because they are still allergy-friendly!

~Make them without the intention of eating right away. These brownies were sooooo much better the next day. Next time I bake them, I’ll keep that in mind.

This company also makes other mixes too, such as carrot cake, chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, and a bare muffin mix (meaning you can add ANYTHING to them to make any kind of muffin you want!).

Finding yummy desserts that not only satisfy your sweet tooth but also help you stay on track are pretty hard to find. The other day I was on a mission to find something that would take the chocolate cravings away and not tip my calorie count over the edge. Dole Dippers came to the rescue!

IMG_1037

Dole has a line of chocolate-covered fruit available in the freezer section! Yes, I know I could probably make these at home for a lot less than what I paid but who has that kind of time?! Certainly not this woman! Anywho, I grabbed a box of the dark chocolate covered banana slices and they were AMAZING!

IMG_1038

Each box comes with 6 packs of 4 banana slices covered in dark chocolate. This is exactly what I was looking for! Its delicious, its only 100 calories per pack, and hello–its CHOCOLATE.

Eating healthy on-the-go can sometimes be very frustrating and overwhelming: “What should I eat? Where can I get something that tastes good and has good-for-me stuff? What can I eat one-handed because I know I’ll be multitasking while I eat!”

I can answer all of those questions with today’s Try It!

IMG_9866

This little packet is full of organic, good-for-you stuff and you can totally eat it one-handed AND its available at Walmart! Plus, its REALLY tasty!

Here’s the stats on this snack:

momma chia

This specific packet has organic strawberry, banana, and beet puree along with chia seeds (which give that kick of Omega-3s)! I ate this as I was driving around with the kids the other day and it was incredibly satisfying and super yummy! I bought a few more to keep on hand!

favorite are the nacho cheese https://www.questnutrition.com/collections/quest-chips/products/nacho-cheese-tortilla-style-protein-chips

Trying to eat healthy and lose weight can be such a drag sometimes. You can only eat kale and chia seeds for so long, am I right? And when you’re trying to up your protein intake but want something that’s NOT jerky? Ugh, fuggetaboutit. Thankfully, I found something yummy that will also help me hit my protein goals!

IMG_9400

Oh yes, those are PROTEIN chips! Quest Nutrition actually has FIVE different flavors! I’ve tried three so far: cheddar & sour cream, BBQ, and nacho cheese! Just take a look at these stats:

I paired mine with a Chick-Fil-A Chicken Club sandwich (sans bun) and it was the PERFECT meal!

Out of the three flavors I have tried, the nacho cheese are my favorite, but that’s because they tasted fairly close to Doritos!

Happy Tuesday, folks! I’ve tested some new products and I can’t wait to share them with you! Last time, I told you all about my new favorite yogurt found in a new refrigerated section of Walmart. I found one of today’s Try Its right next to it!

Naked is primarily known for its vast assortment of juices and drinks, but they recently launched a new line of fruit/veggie/nut bars! I tried the Red Machine!

This bar is packed full of vitamins and minerals! Its made from: almonds, apples, carrots, pistachios, cranberries, cherries, and spinach! They’re non-GMO, vegan, gluten free, and made without preservatives! This bar was pretty good! It was a tad chewy, but still really good!

The next item I tried is new from McCormick–the spice people! They have a new line of breakfast toppers–shakers full of crunchy goodness to add to yogurt, cereal, or oatmeal! I bought the Cocoa Banana and sprinkled it on my plain kefir!

The breakfast topper was DELISH! The plain kefir? Not so much. Definitely need fruit to add to that to make it palatable.

Doing this whole low carb/Keto thing can be tough sometimes, especially when you’re looking for fast snacks. Thankfully, I searched around and actually found some snacks that are LC/K-friendly!

First up are these awesome little packets of protein-packed nut butter from Wildfriends!

IMG_7475

These would be great with celery sticks, but honestly, they’re tasty by themselves and are a great post-workout snack! The vanilla almond butter has 10 grams of protein in a serving and the chocolate peanut butter packs 12 grams of protein! Great for hitting your macros and they’re tasty, too!

Next up are these crunchy little snacks from Cello! They’re literally made from one thing: cheese!

IMG_7695

Each serving of these crunchy crisps has 10 grams of protein and only 1 carb! I’ve added them to salads, poured them on top of my chili, and eaten them with Laughing Cow cheese! Soooo good! Bonus–they’re gluten free!

Happy Tuesday, peeps! Today I’ve got a yummy treat for you courtesy of one of my students’ mom’s–fruit n’ nut balls!

Here’s what you need:

IMG_4228

~1 cup dates, pitted

~1 cup dried cranberries

~1 cup walnuts

~2 tablespoons peanut butter (you can substitute with almond butter)

~1 cup chocolate chips, melted (optional)

First, pour the walnuts into a food processor and pulse until finely chopped. Set aside.

Then, place the dates, cranberries, and peanut butter into the food processor and blend to a paste. (No, that’s not my tiny hand–I had an assistant!)

IMG_4242

After you’ve achieved the “paste”-like texture, pour the walnuts in with the other ingredients and blend thoroughly. It will look a little crumbly, but that’s okay!

Roll into balls (or press into bars). You can also melt chocolate chips and dip them! If you do, place them on parchment paper immediately after and let them chill in the fridge for about 10 minutes.

Y’all, these things are AMAZE-BALLS (hey-oh!)! They’re super yummy and I don’t feel bad eating them because they’re made with minimal ingredients. Here are the nutrition facts (this is for 1/22 of the recipe and I did not include the chocolate):

These would make a GREAT pre-workout snack or a great dessert! Have you ever made these before (or something like it)? What were your results? Share in the comments below!
