Mommy Monday

Mommy Monday2

When I was pregnant with Huff the Tot (Hermione had to pass along Huff the Babe for the new kid) I was nervous about EVERYTHING. Was I going to be a good mom? Was I eating the right things? Would I be able to juggle motherhood and working and being a wife while also maintaining my self? There were so many “what ifs” and doubts running through my mind. After all, it was my first time doing this.

Then, I heard a song that really spoke to me. This one:

The very first few lines made me realize she and I are in it together. We can do this. So it became my pregnancy anthem.

This time, I feel more confident (though, I still have some “what if” moments). I’m so excited for our new little peanut and the relationship she or he will have with their big sister.

I have been keeping How I Met Your Mother on in the background while I’ve been working and the other day I watched the episode, The Magician’s Code and heard a beautiful song. It has now become my {second} pregnancy anthem:

Did you have a song that really stuck with you during your pregnancy? Share in the comments below!

Try It Tuesday

Today’s Try It Tuesday is legen-wait for it-dary!

Because one of my favorite shows–How I Met Your Mother–aired its last show EVER last night, my sister and I decided to bid farewell to our five friends with a HIMYM-themed treat!

Remember when Lily met The Mother (AKA, Tracy) on the train on the way to Farhampton and they shared some delicious cookies?

I found the recipe on Pinterest! Woo!

Here’s what you need:

sumbs (1)

1 cup butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1 cup creamy peanut butter

2 large eggs

1 tsp. vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp. baking soda

½ tsp. salt

36 bite-size chocolate-covered caramel candy bars (I used Rolos!)

First, beat together the first 4 ingredients with an electric mixer until smooth. Then, add in the eggs and vanilla, and blend.

Then, in a small bowl, stir together the flour and the next 2 ingredients. Add that to the butter mixture and blend. Cover the bowl and chill for about 30 minutes. (I actually recommend chilling for maybe 45 minutes to an hour. The dough was SUPER sticky when I tried to roll it).

While the dough is chilling, preheat your oven to 350°F. When the dough is done chilling, get about 2 tablespoons of dough and roll it around a mini candy. Place the dough balls about 3 inches apart on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.

Bake for 13 to 14 minutes or until lightly browned.

sumbs (2)

Let them cool for about 5 minutes and then dig in!

These cookies were SOOO yummy! I think next time, I’ll try to make the cookies a teensy bit smaller. Maybe use 1 tablespoon of dough instead of 2. That way the dough-to-candy ratio is a bit more even.

P.S. Did you watch the finale? What did you think?

Lately, my Pinterest news feed has been flooding with knitting and crocheting patterns. Unfortunately, I have chubby fingers and zero patience, so I refrain from such activities. However, the other day whilst walking around Michael’s, I saw the most AMAZING book! I think I might have to pick up knitting!

Get yo knit on.

Get yo knit on.

Inside are awesome projects from all of our favorite shows: Firefly, Doctor Who, Sherlock; as well as Star Wars and so many more! (To my knitting friends: get ready to have some orders placed!)

And finally, is anyone else SO excited about the new Captain America movie? Even though I hear Cap and the Black Widow totes kiss (I’m coming for you, Scar Jo; look out!) it still doesn’t hamper my nerd squeals. Check out the trailer that recently debuted online!

Oh Captain… you’re so dreamy.

I Love My TV…All My Friends Live There

I am so glad its fall.

The leaves are changing; the house fills with the spicy aroma of pumpkin-filled treats; and best of all, MY TV SHOWS ARE BACK!

Yes, its the time of year when the magical black box in my living lets me have a fly-on-the-wall view into the lives of my favorite fictional friends. I am so excited for this new season. And even though some have already begun, I’ll give you a run-down on what will be showing in the Huffman Home this fall:

1. How I Met Your Mother

Teddy Westside and the Gang.

I honestly hope this is the last season. After a seventh season of Ted still pining after Robin and Barney still womanizing, and still not GETTING TO SEE THE FREAKING MOTHER, I was about ready to call it quits. But those clever producers hooked me when I heard through the blogosphere that next season will most likely be the final season. Now I feel like I have to see it all the way through. It’d be like me eating almost all the Pringles, but still having three left in the can… you can’t just stop. Eat the whole thing!

2. Once Upon A Time

Oh snap! She got a sword! It just got real.

I was a little skeptical about how this show could keep going after the main problem of the first season was resolved in the season finale. At first I was like, “Oh, well that was a nice movie that lasted for six months.” But, when I watched the season premiere last week, I was excited to see that the magical mystery tour of Storybrooke was just beginning! I’ve heard that many more favorite fairy tale characters are going to join the cast (Mulan, Sleeping Beauty, Captain Hook) and I can’t wait to see how the writers put a new spin on the classics!

3. The Vampire Diaries

She’s gets TWO Salvatores AND has hair that pretty?! Not fair.

After last season’s cliffhanger (at which point I said, “OMG, finally!”) I was counting down the days until October 11th! I love this show so much. Not necessarily because of the whole vampire thing (the are so 2010) but because the season starting will bring even more shirtless Ian Somerholder into my life. And I think everyone could use a little more of that.

4. The Big Bang Theory

Achk, mohck! (I said no Klingon, Sheldon!)

Who didn’t shed a tear when Howard and Bernadette got married last season? I mean, this little creepy candy-coated engineer finally got the woman of his dreams (and it wasn’t Katee Sackhoff). Now that Bernie and Howie (and his mother) are riding off into the sunset, where does this leave poor little Raj? And what about Penny and Leonard? I swear, if they break up again, I will go to L.A. myself and kick Chuck Lorre in the molecules. He could, however, redeem himself by having Amy and Sheldon make out. Come on, Chuck, Amy needs some sugar.

5. Doctor Who

Bowties are cool.

Sadly, the season for Doctor Who has already come and gone just like the Ponds. (Sidebar: I’m going to miss the Ponds. Not necessarily because of Amy, but because of Rory. He really was the epitome of the sweet boy next door.) Those Brits really like to tease us as much as they can by whetting our appetites for these shows (a la Sherlock) and then taking them away from us for months on end. Le sigh. I’m already counting down the days to the Christmas Special.

What about you? What fall shows are you looking forward to the most?
