High five for making it through another week! Not only is it one of the best days of the week because now there’s no work for two days, BUT I’ve also found geeky goodies to make you say, “SQUEEEEEEE!”

Did you know that there are over 60,000 kids in the United States that are legally blind? These kids are missing out on some of the greatest things in childhood and this didn’t sit well with the fine folks over at the Dorina Nowill Foundation for the Blind and they decided to do something about it! They created some Lego-inspired building blocks with the Braille alphabet to help kids learn to read as well as have fun! Check out the video:

You can help get the word out with the hashtag: #BrailleBricksForAll

I may be the only person that truly loved Suicide Squad (by reading my Facebook newsfeed I’m thinking a lot of people will not be going to see the new Justice League flick). But one of the reasons I loved it so much was because of all the hidden gems throughout the film! If you didn’t notice ’em, don’t worry, The Nerdist has ya covered (Warning: spoilers!):

Potterheads everywhere lost our minds when Harry Potter and The Cursed Child came out a few weeks ago. Now, we have yet another reason to go crazy with happiness: JK Rowling has confirmed that three more books will be released! AHHHH!!!

harry-potter-ebooks

According to Time.com, these short story collections will “take readers deeper into the “dark side” of the Harry Potter wizarding world”. MERLIN’S. BEARD. It’s about to get real, y’all! Each book is about 10K words in length and will be available on Pottermore and other book-selling sites!

Happy fangirling!

Happy Friday, y’all! This is my first Fan Girl Friday since bringing a human into the world! And I’m not holding back! There’s lots of awesome finds for you and your fandoms!

First up, we all know (well, at least, most of us know) that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released on DVD today! WOO! While scouring the interwebs for info about Star Wars, I came across this super cool trailer for a documentary all about the extras and folks behind the masks in the original trilogy!

And speaking of movie trailers, the new Lego Batman Movie trailer is out! It doesn’t hit theaters until next summer but I’m already so excited for it! Watch this and try not to crack up!

Lego-mania is going to be back in full swing this May in the Huffman Homestead, I can feel it. Mostly because Disney just announced that they will be releasing their first ever collection of minifigs this spring! Check them out!

I must have them ALL!

The weather is warming up, which means its time to toss our winter wardrobe and bring in our summer clothes! And what better way to ring in the summer than with this terrific Trekker shirt from ThinkGeek!

Awesome, right?! Huff the Hubs may need one for Father’s Day…

Fan Girl Friday

Iiiiits Friday! Start your happy dance and let the Diet Coke flow! I’ve got some fantabulous fangirl finds to make today even more like a party!

Even though Firefly is long gone (I know, try not to sob into the tassle’s of your Jayne replica knit hat) you can still live the renegade lifestyle ONLINE! Oh yes, that’s right, Firefly is coming to your PC AND smartphone! You can carry Serenity in your pocket!

firefly

Even though it won’t be available until early 2015, you can check out a sneak peek of the game by clocking the link here. What do you think? I think its SHINY.

I’m not going to lie, when Andrea from The Walking Dead was killed off, I was like, “Sheesh! FINALLY!” Needless to say, I was not the biggest fan of her character. I know I can’t be the only one. Anywhoo, Laurie Holden, the actress that played Andrea on the show, is MUCH more likeable in real life!

Turns out Holden was an instrumental part in an undercover sex-trafficking bust down in Columbia. Holden is a human rights activist and works with a program called Operation Underground Railroad. The group, led by former CIA-agent Tim Ballard, works to free young girls sold into sex slavery. During the sting in Columbia, Holden and the group helped free fifty-five young women! Go Laurie! You can read the full story here.

I am SO incredibly ready for November: turkey, stuffing, and Mockingjay! I’ve been waiting for any new trailers to be released, so when I saw this one, I squealed like a little girl! Check it out!

Speaking of movies, look at what an incredibly talented teen did–using Lego and stop-motion–to capture some of the greatest moments in cult movie history, as well as classic movie posters:

Fan Girl Friday

Happy Friday, peeps! I have SO much to share with my fellow fangirls and boys! Get excited because the web has been a buzz all week with news about our favorite fandoms!

Was I the only one who audibly gasped during the season finale of Once Upon a Time when a certain blonde in a blue dress sashayed out of that portal? Didn’t think so. After months of speculating, we finally have a face to put with that braid!

Fabulously Frozen!

Winter is coming.

Her name is Georgina Haig and she’s a relative newcomer (i.e., she hasn’t been in a lot of well-known projects) but I think she looks pretty great as Elsa! What do you think?

One of the reasons Huff the Hubs and I went to London last year (other than to take a big trip before Hermione was born) was so we could see Oxford—AKA, one of the inspirations for the set designers of the Harry Potter films. I was pretty excited to see The Great Hall (which looked very similar to the one at Hogwarts) but these girls put our trip to shame. They are on a quest to find all of the famous locales from their favorite fandoms! Check it out!

We'll be late for Herbology!

We’ll be late for Herbology!

You can keep up with their ongoing quest here on their Tumblr page! Go look; its awesome!

I don’t know about you, but I am really suffering from L.O.D.W., which stands for Lack of Doctor Who. Symptoms include staring longingly at the BBC America channel’s listings in the TV guide, wearing fezzes when its not appropriate, and telling people to hurry up by saying, “Allonsy!” And sadly, the only cure is more Doctor Who. But, that won’t be happening for a while. Thankfully, we can watch things like this and get our Who on!

There’s going to be changes coming to a comicbook store near you! Not only is Marvel going to be replacing Thor with a lady this fall, but they’ve also chosen someone new to carry the star-spangled shield! That’s right, there’s a new Captain America in town!

Capt America

And he’s non-other than Steve’s BFF, Sam Wilson (AKA, The Falcon)! What do you think about the change? Like it?

Huff the Hubs is a HUGE Weird Al Yankovic fan. He adores the guy. Seriously. I think he’s alright. I mean, the main reason why I love him is because he works with Hanson a lot; he even directed and made a cameo in their music videos! Yankovic’s new album dropped this week and he’s been giving us tastes of the new songs with a new music video every day this week. My favorite so far has to be this one. It speaks to the Grammar Nazi within me.
