Hey y’all! Its been a while since I’ve done an FGF, so I figured I’d make it a good one so you wouldn’t be *too* upset that you’ve missed out on so much nerdy awesomeness!

Get your passports and dress robes, people because I just heard that there is going to be a Harry Potter-themed cruise coming to England this year! *Cue the fangirl screams*

Barge Lady Cruises will be hosting a six-day trip down the River Thames making magical stops at locations used in or as inspiration for the Potter films! There’s even a stop at the home used as “4 Privet Drive”! *Packs bag, grabs wand, and waits for an owl to arrive with instructions on how to use the floo network to get to London*

And speaking of the spectacle-wearing boy wonder, check out these Hogwarts-inspired clutches from Think Geek!

The uniform-themed bags come in Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw colors!

With Valentine’s Day coming up, I’m sure many of you fellas out there are trying to think of that perfect gift for your gal. Let me give you some advice: flowers are lame. They only stick around for a while and then they die. You know what doesn’t fade? The absolute A-DORK-ABLE-NESS of this Star Wars plushie bouquet!

I mean, for reals, just LOOK at that Porg! And if a galaxy far, far away isn’t your lady’s “thing”, there’s many more to choose from including microbes, books,  and science-themed!

Sometimes its hard to start the day off in a good mood. Its tough getting out of bed on these cold, winter mornings. Make waking up easier with this unicorn pancake mold from Perpetual Kid!

Fan Girl Friday!

Fan Girl Friday Background

Its finally here! Praise the Lord, its FINALLY Friday! I’ve been looking forward to this beautiful day all week! Let’s jump right in and get our nerd on!

On May 27th, the new Alice Through the Looking Glass hits theaters. Because he is awesome and amazing and basically the best, Johnny Depp decided to surprise Disneyland guests this week by appearing at the park! Guests walked by what they thought were digitized mirrors with a Depp recording. However, he was actually there, speaking with guests in real time! Check it out!

Ever since the Harry Potter tour of London started, I have been dying to get on a plane and trek it back to my favorite place on Earth (besides Oklahoma)! And now, I have yet another reason! Warner Brothers Studios in London has now opened up the Dursely’s home as part of its tour! They’ve got everything from pictures of pudgy Dudley to the flying letters for Harry! Watch and try not to be bewitched!

Sorry to end on a sad note, but many beloved television shows are going to that big DVD set in the sky. Womp, womp.

agent-carter-768

Agent CarterGalavantCastle (say it ain’t so, Captain Reynolds!), and The Muppets (NOOOO!) all got the axe. Any shows you’re surprised at seeing on this list? Any you’d like to see off the air? (Ahem, Keeping Up with the Kardashians)

Happy fangirling!

Happy Friday, peeps! I realized this week I haven’t done a Fan Girl Friday in TWO WEEKS! I know; bad, blogger! But I’ve found some geeky goodies and nerdy news to help you kick off your V-Day weekend!

A few weeks ago, I was out running errands and saw the COOLEST window cling! So when I got home, I immediately searched for it online and found it on Etsy!

Fan Girl Friday Hogwarts Honor Student

Seriously, how cute is this?! I need this for the Mom-mobile. I mean, my kid’s name is Hermione so its perfect, right?

And speaking of the magical world of HP, JoAnn’s Fabrics has recently acquired some new Potter prints!

Fan Girl Friday Harry Potter Fabric

AHH! Excuse me while I go spend an unholy amount of Sickles on this fabric…

You guys know I’m a HUGE fan of Friends. I quote it at least once a day and I’ve watched the entire series all the way through probably a dozen times. So when I saw this, I got all floopy!

Fan Girl Friday Friends Candle

There’s a Kickstarter campaign to help a candle maker start his business including a line of Friends inspired aromatherapy candles! The “Ross” is called “Pivot! Pivot! Pivot!” (totally fitting). I really hope the “Monica” is called “Monana”.

You know when you travel and you consider your favorite destination your second home? That’s how I feel about London. And I think I need to go back for a fourth time, because the one and only Sir Ian McKellen is going to be riding around a double decker!

Fan Girl Friday Sir Ian McKellen hosting bus tours of London

Yep, in celebration of the British Film Institute’s Shakespeare on Film program (which was started by McKellen) Gandalf himself will be serving as a tour guide, showing tourists filming locations from his film Richard III. According to Radio Times, the white wizard said:

“I always thought it might be fun to take a bus tour around the sites of Richard III. You would watch snippets of the film and then arrive at the actual location,” [McKellen] said. “I want to be the tour leader.”

Let’s pack our bags, people!

Happy fangirling!

Fan Girl Friday

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttt’s Friday! This week has kind of stunk it up big time, so I’m going to bring some geeky goodies that will warm your insides! And today is all about someone very near and dear to my heart—Harry Potter. Even though its been more than 10 years since the first Harry Potter book came out, the magic of it lives on. That is why today’s FGF is all about The Boy Who Lived!

This week, the fully illustrated versions of Harry Potter hit stores! They’re a wee bit taller and wider than the versions we’re used to, but they look fantastic! I REALLY want a copy of all of them! Just check out the beautiful artwork:

Fan Girl Friday Harry Potter Illustrated Edition

Imma need these in my life.

This Christmas we can all leave our Muggle celebrations behind and travel to our home away from home, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I’m so not joking. Now that the Harry Potter Studio Tour has opened up in England, the genius folks have now opened up the Great Hall for wizards and Muggles alike to break bread and down a draught of butterbeer!

Fan GIrl Friday Dine at the Great Hall

That’s right! For only $375, you can have a Christmas feast inside the Great Hall!

And, if that isn’t “Potterhead”enough for you, you can actually LIVE in the Great Hall. Well, kinda. The school that was used to film the first three HP movies has now been renovated into apartments and town homes!

Fan Girl Friday Great Hall Live

You can rent out a flat and throw a party in the Great Hall! Be sure to book The Weird Sisters; they know how to rock.

When the HP films were coming out, I checked MuggleNet.com just about every eingle day for updates and behind the scenes pics. Now, they are doing something so awesome, I seriously got goosebumps when I read about it. They have started a new movement called ‘Potter It Forward’. This is when you go to your local library and leave notes about your own experience with the magical world of JK Rowling for future Potterheads to enjoy! Like this:

Fan GIrl Friday Potter it Forward

The movement has also taken to Twitter using: #PotterItForward. I love this!

And, last but not least, carry your love of everything Potter right around your neck with this beautiful Deathly Hallows-inspired accessory:

Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Necklace

And remember if someone asks you, “You’re still obsessed with that?” you are obligated to reply with a soft, “Always.”

Happy fangirling!

Fan Girl Friday

Happy Halloween, ghouls and boys! I’ve got some great goodies to make today even more magical! Today’s Fan Girl Friday is all about our favorite boy wizard, Harry Potter!

I think I need to plan another trip to London. There’s an amazing hotel–The Georgian Hotel–that has fully renovated Wizard Chambers! Yes, you read that right, wizard! That means you can actually sleep in a Potter-themed room!

Does room service offer Butterbeer?

Does room service offer Butterbeer?

Seriously, I think its worth the almost $300 a night fee! Click here to take the virtual tour! See if you can spot all of the Easter eggs that only true Potterheads will find!

Our beloved author, Queen JK Rowling (okay, she’s not a queen…but she’s literary royalty in my eyes!) has released another short story on her website Pottermore! This one is all about that sugary-sweet-yet-horribly-evil-spawn-of-a-Squib, Dolores Umbridge.

So. Many. Cats.

So. Many. Cats.

Not only does Rowling give us a backstory to Umbridge and her evil ways, but she also opens up at the true inspiration for the awful teacher turned Muggle-hater (turned Azkaban prisoner!).

Have you been watching The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon? If not, you should be! He’s absolutely hilarious and gets so many celebs to do AMAZING things! Like this jaw-dropping rap from The Boy Who Lived himself, Mr. Daniel Radcliffe! Watch!

I sincerely hope you have your costume finished for tonight. If not–and you need some inspiration–take a gander at these Harry Potter themed costumes!

Just don't throw a book at her head!

Everyone have a safe and happy Halloween!

New Year’s Resolutions

Last year, I regaled you all with my resolutions goals for 2013. I think I kept many of them (except the whole “stress less” one…its kind of tough to do that when you’re preggo or when you’ve got a newborn in the house). But I do think I did pretty well (even though there are still books on my classics list I have yet to get to).

This past year was a big year for me (and Huff the Hubs). I got promoted, became a mother, traveled to London, and FINALLY got my book 100% finished.

My sister that teaches fourth grade and I were talking about New Year’s Resolutions. She said she doesn’t really make resolutions, but she is going to talk to her students about it when they return to school. She showed me an awesome project she’s going to do with them:

I may color mine.

I may color mine.

For each number, there’s a direction:

For the 2: Name the two best things that happened in 2013.

For the 0: Name something you want to STOP doing in the New Year.

For the 1: Your one wish for 2014.

For the 4: Four goals for 2014.

Two best things that happened in 2013:

1. Hermione.

It was literally one year ago today that I found out I was pregnant. I was shocked, obviously. Mostly because I didn’t think it would happen so fast. It was a whirlwind; scary at times, but its been so worth it.

Don't I make cute babies?

Don’t I make cute babies?

2. Getting out of debt.

Huff the Hubs and I had been aggressively working toward getting out of debt from the moment we got married. We both had student loans we needed to pay off and were very serious about taking the shackles off. And we did! Our reward? London, baby!

Hands down, best Abbey ever.

Hands down, best Abbey ever.

Something you want to stop doing in the New Year:

Worrying.

I feel ya, Dr. Cooper.

I feel ya, Dr. Cooper.

I’m a worrier from way back. And, if at some point I’m not worried about something, I worry because I’m basically waiting “for the other shoe to drop”. I hate living like that. I’m ready for some peace of mind, yo. I have been to counselling and I’ve read some good books (like this one!) and its really helped me A LOT. But I still wake up in the morning terrified of the potential bad the day could hold. I want to wake up in the morning feeling excited about the possibilities, not terrified. So that’s the goal: STOP. FREAKING. WORRYING.

Your one wish for 2014:

Health.

Well said.

Well said.

I don’t just mean physical health. I mean mental health (i.e., the stop worrying thing), emotional health (keeping my mood up), spiritual health (spend time with God each day and not because I feel like I have to), relational health (making sure my marriage, familial relationships, and friendships are nurtured) and environmental health (be more mindful of how my choices affect the planet, its people, and animals).

Four goals for 2014:

 1. Lose the baby weight.

Either way, I'd be happy.

Either way, I’d be happy.

Before I got pregnant, I was working toward maintaining my weight and maybe even dropping a few pounds as my clothes weren’t fitting me as well as they had been (holidays and all), but then I found out I was with child and weight loss went on the backburner (as it should have). Now that Hermione is 4 months old, I’m healed and recovered from childbirth and my milk supply is established, I’m ready to work on losing those last 9 pounds of pregnancy that are sticking around. And, to be honest, I’m not too concerned with the number on the scale. I’m more focused on how I feel and how my clothes are fitting me.

I know a lot of people will say: “You had a baby, be proud of that!” And I am. But I also don’t feel like myself with the extra weight. The holidays with its endless mountains of sweets and the stress on our schedule has made me push my health to the wayside. I want to get refocused on my health. Plus, my clothes are still tight and I’m too cheap to buy new ones—ha!

2. Stop the “fat talk”.

Thanks, Abey.

Thanks, Abey.

Sometimes, without even thinking, the words: “Gah, I’m so fat!” will come pouring out of my mouth. Or, “I can’t wear this, I look fat!” will pop into my head as I look at my reflection after picking something out at a store that looked cute on the rack, but hideous on me. I know it may seem hypocritical to say I want to stop the fat talk in the same blog post describing my desire to lose weight, so let me make myself clear.

I want to stop the negative talk.

I don’t want Hermione to talk to herself the way I talk to myself. I want her to be healthy, to enjoy being active, to eat good foods, and feel confident in who she is. How can she do that if she doesn’t have the proper role model? I want to be an example of being healthy and fit while still loving who I am and being proud of my body.

3. Put down the devices.

Put down the phone!

Put down the phone!

Every night before I fall asleep, I do the same thing: pick up my phone and look at Pinterest or Facebook (or both) for about 45 minutes. Huff the Hubs will say something to me and I’ll grunt in agreement or say, “That’s cool” even though I’m not paying attention.

When I go places with people, a lot of our time is spent with them or me (or both!) on our phones, looking at pointless stuff. I want to get into a habit of putting the phone down, looking people in the eye, and actually listening to what they’re saying (gee, what a novel concept!). I don’t want to be a slave to my phone (HtH already calls my phone “my kidney” because I can’t function if I don’t have it).

4. Finish my 30 by 30 list.

Really, a lot of my goals are on my 30 by 30 list. I am determined to finish that list by the time I’m 30. I know some stuff may be difficult (like going to Italy with my sister) but you better believe I will work my hardest to get those things knocked off that list! I’ve already signed up for the OKC Memorial Marathon!

Sack up, Jess!

Sack up, Jess!

Do you have any resolutions? Goals? Reflections on the past year?

I hope you have a safe and happy New Year! (And please drink responsibly!)

My Retail Wish List

You guys. I am so FREAKING excited. There is going to be…..drumroll please….an H&M in Oklahoma City!

*cue the Beatle-mania-decibel-shattering screams*

Oh yeah! According to OKC Talk (which I hear is pretty credible) there are going to be awesome shops popping up all over the Memorial Road area! Obviously, I’m most excited about the H&M (my sister and I frequented that store whilst in London and Liverpool).

However, they’re also planning on building some other things I’m not too jazzed about. Like yet another outdoor store. I’m sorry, after getting Academy, Dick’s, AND Bass Pro, I think we’re set. But I digress. I really wish I was on these planning committees. If I was, we’d have some AWESOME stores that every other major city in America seems to have except OKC. Such as:

IKEA

Behold, the gloriousness.

Behold, the gloriousness.

I. LOVE. IKEA. Not only do they have cute knick knacks and decor, they’ve also got DELICIOUS Swedish meatballs (seriously, have you ever tried those things? AMAZE-BALLS. Literally.) As of now, we have to drive aaaallllll the way to Dallas just to get something to fill our bright yellow and blue bags. Not cool, IKEA. Not cool.

Top Shop

So posh!

So posh!

Honestly, I’ve never even set foot in a Top Shop. They’re all the rage in London (and you know how I love my Brits) and Kate Middleton shops there ALL the time. I mostly want a Top Shop here in OKC so I can walk around and be all: “Look at all the things I can’t afford but if I could, I’d totes be twinkies with Kate!” (Honestly, if Kate met me, I really think we’d be instant BFFs. Seriously. Plus, our kids are the same age and equally adorable–although I’d give a slight edge to Hermione. I’m bias that way.)

Marks and Spencer

Delightfully British.

Delightfully British.

This is yet another British import. This place is magnificent. Its basically a high-end, nicer WalMart. I know what you’re thinking: “But Jess, isn’t Target our ‘high-end WalMart’?” And to that I say, “You ain’t seen nothing yet.” You know how you can wear pajama pants to WalMart but not to Target? You want to wear at least jeans, a cute top, and throw on some mascara, right? At Marks and Spencer, be prepared to actually shower and shave your legs. Oh yeah, its THAT nice.

What would you like to see in OKC? (Besides the Dairy Queen that’s coming soon!)
