Fan Girl Friday!

Fan Girl Friday Mario Badge

Happy Friday, people! I’ve got a plethora of dorky delights for you today including movie news, our favorite Doctor showing up on television, and nostalgia overload!

I love reading. I mean, who doesn’t? Idiots, that’s who. (Or is it whom?) Anyway, if you’re out and about and sans book, make it easy for fellow bookworms to see that you are one of their tribe with these a-DORK-able socks:

sup nerd socks

I LOVE these! I think all my friends will be getting a pair for Christmas. That is, if I can wait that long. Maybe they’ll get them as a Columbus Day present. People do that, right?

Ever since Gracepoint went off the air, I’ve been having major David Tennant withdrawals. And its not like Huff the Babe will sit down and let me drool over DT on Doctor Who. Thankfully, Disney has heard my plea and will be throwing me a toddler-friendly bone! David Tennant will be voicing a character on Jake and the Neverland Pirates!

David Tennant on Jake and the Neverland Pirates

The character, and evil genie named Dread, will appear in a few episodes of the show in the coming months! Set your DVR’s, mommas!

Y’all, I am so excited about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I’m even MORE excited because I just heard that soon after TFA comes out, there will be a stand alone film all about a young Han Solo!

Han Solo Solo Movie

The film is set to release May 25, 2018. And, according to Yahoo News, the story “focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel.” The film is being written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan, the geniuses that brought us 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie! EEEEE! I. CANNOT. WAIT.

When I was a kid, I LURVED Goosebumps by R.L. Stine. Seriously. Anytime the book fair came to school, I dropped mad dollas on some GB. Be still my 90’s girl heart because a film all about the books and author is coming out this year! Not only that, but the author is played by Jack Black! Y’all, this is going to be legen-wait for it-DARY! Check out the trailer:

And if that wasn’t enough nostalgia for you, take a stroll down 90’s memory lane with the latest video from Owl City (featuring my favorite boys, Hanson!) of their new song, Unbelievable:

Happy fangirling!

Happy chilly Friday!

Winter is in full swing now here in Oklahoma. And, for the rest of the world, winter is coming. (Like that segue?)

And what better way to prep for winter (and another blood-bath-filled season on your favorite HBO series) than by making lots of yummy baked treats? And where will you store such treats? In a jar fit for a khaleesi.

Don't awaken the dragon.

Don’t awaken the dragon.

The second film installment in the Hunger Games series opened last night. Show your solidarity with Katniss as she fights her way through the arena with this awesome bangle from Think Geek:

"A gold token so we can all match."

“A gold token so we can all match.”

As the chilly weather approaches, you don’t want Old Man Winter (AKA, The Ice King) slowing you down as you fight monsters, goblins, and vampires for riches! Bundle up like the great adventurer himself! Yellow pooch sidekick not included.

Tomorrow is the day we’ve all been waiting for, Whovians. Its the 50th Anniversary special: The Day of the Doctor. I. CANNOT. WAIT. I’ve already got a list of snacks I’m going to indulge in whilst sitting in front of the telly (and oh yes, it includes fish fingers and custard as well as jammy dodgers) and I think I’ve found just the thing to wear:

"Not bad for a man in his jim jams, eh?"

“Not bad for a man in his jim jams, eh?”

Band Nerds?

I used to think that people in band were nerds. After all, they played instruments and didn’t seem to have any athletic ability. That was the definition of a nerd, right?

Oh how wrong I was. I remember going to my first OU Football game about four years ago and seeing The Pride do their thang at halftime. It was pouring down rain and yet they still looked and sounded AMAZING. I was so impressed with their hard work and commitment. I felt like they were working just as hard as the guys in the jerseys.

Just think about it: people in band are probably up at the school/university just as much if not more than athletes. If they’re in marching band, they’re stomping around for hours out in the hot sun in the spring and summer or freezing their tails off in the fall and winter.

They’ve got dedication coming out the wazoo! I tried learning to play the guitar and I could barely pluck out Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star! These people are playing many complex songs they learned like, a week ago! And they sound good!

Still not convinced? Check out these amazing videos of marching bands:

(This post came to mind when my friend posted a video of the Ohio State marching band doing this awesome halftime show! They have also done a Disney tribute! Magic!)

It’s the end of July and we all know what that means. No, not back-to-school sales, San Diego Comic Con!

Every year near the 20th of July, the sunny seaside town of San Diego (founded by the Germans*, you know) is flooded with geeky hordes of DND lovers, cosplay fanatics, and larping lunatics. It’s a great time to be an American.

Four years ago, I was able to go to “The Con” (that’s what we “in the know” refer to it as) and I had an absolute BLAST! Hands down, one of the most fun weeks I’ve ever had.

I’ve been seeing countless tweets and status updates from folks at The Con. It made me misty-eyed for my Con experience back in ’09, so I’m going to take you down a trip on Memory Lane.

Before going to Comic Con, I wasn’t sure what to expect. All I knew was: David Tennant was going to be there and so was the cast of New Moon. That’s all I cared about. Seriously.

When we arrived and got our badges, that’s when everything started to “get real”. I thought, “Holy crap. This is like, a really big thing!” (<– That’s what she said.)

Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!

Badges? We don’t need no stinkin’ badges!

There were people in costumes EVERYWHERE. Some of them were odd (we always assumed that the weird costumes that we didn’t recognize HAD to be from anime. I was NOT a fan of anime back then) and some were downright awesome:

Quail Man!

Quail Man!

This was taken five minutes before I yelled at them for cutting. You may look like the Doctor, but that doesn't mean I won't turn on you.

This was taken five minutes before I yelled at them for cutting. You may look like the Doctor, but that doesn’t mean I won’t turn on you.

I didn’t quite grasp just how many people came to Comic Con until we stood in line for the New Moon panel. The NM panel wasn’t on until much later in the afternoon, but we soon discovered that you have to sit through some stuff you may not want to in order to see who you want to see (i.e., the trailer and panel for The Final Destination: 3D. There are certain things you can’t unsee).

That day, the panel started off pretty nice; it was an hour-long Disney preview panel hosted by Patton Oswalt, also known as the voice of Remi from Ratatouille. He talked about some upcoming Disney movies and brought out Tim Burton. Tim Freaking Burton, y’all.

After discussing Alice In Wonderland, Mr. Burton said he had a surprise for us…His surprise? Johnny The Hottie Depp. When he walked out onto the stage, my sister started to sweat and I thought my bestie was going to go into labor (she was 5 months preggo at the time). It. Was. Amazing.

Oh, Johnny...

Oh, Johnny…

Sidebar: later on in the week, my sister and I were walking around the main floor and we saw someone in a squirrel costume. Here’s the conversation my sister and I had:

Bridget: Is that a squirrel?

Me: I think so.

Bridget: What’s that from?

Me: *disgusted voice* Ugh, probably some anime or something.

When we got home, we were watching E! News and were shocked to find out that the person in the squirrel costume was Johnny Depp! Moral of the story? If you see someone dressed in a costume that doesn’t seem to fit any genre of nerdom, take a picture with them. It could be a celebrity.

Anywhoo, back to my main point: the panels at CC are great! You never know what you might see. Like the cast of Chuck singing Queen’s Fat Bottom Girls:

Or David Tennant wearing a Stormtrooper shirt:

My hearts beat for Ten.

My hearts beat for Ten.

Or the chance to get a picture with Milo Ventamiglia:

"Jess" and Jessie!

“Jess” and Jessie!

Between the panels, the booths, and the costumes, Comic Con is one of those things that unless you’ve been, you can’t really grasp the nerdy magnificence. I wish I was going this year but evidently, you can’t fly when you’re 32 weeks pregnant. Sigh. Oh well, there’s always next year!

*Yes, I know San Diego wasn’t really founded by Germans. Clearly you’ve never seen Anchorman.

Fan Girl Thursday

Happy Thursday, fan peeps!

I’ve got something planned for tomorrow, so you’re getting your weekly does of fandom a little early! And OMG, I’ve got TONS to share with you!

Think Geek is going to be getting A LOT of money from me very soon. Check out this Weeble-inspired mug! It suctions to the table (or wherever you place it), it weebles, it wobbles, but it won’t fall down (or spill!).

Finally, a mug that can hold up to the likes of Messy Jessie.

Are you a total film geek? Then TG has the lounge-gear for you! Look at these adorable movie-inspired pillows:

Just don't eat them!

I cannot wait for my little Hermione to get here. I’ll teach her so many things: the art of sarcasm, the proper way to deliver one-liners, and oh yes…the awesomeness that is Grumpy Cat:

Grumpy Baby.

Grumpy Baby.

Bless me hobbit feet! Have you seen the new trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug?! I literally squealed out loud and hopped around like a dwarf that just found the Arkenstone.

And speaking of The Hobbit, check out this awesome hobbit-themed party I saw on Epbot:

No admittance. Except on party business.

Hello, all!

I’ve got a little something special planned for tomorrow, so you’re getting geeky goodies a day early!

First up, check out this ADORABLE onsie from ThinkGeek! I’ve already put it on Hermione’s registry. I think she needs the Tardis play tent too.

Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey...

Also from the folks over at TG, you can prep for the new Star Trek movie (coming to a theater near you next Friday!) and also relax in Star Fleet style!

To boldly nap like no other has napped before.

Hello, fellow nerdlings! I’ve got some great goodies for you to feast your eyes upon today!

Think Geek has really pulled out all the stops this week, I’m telling ya. That’s why the first two finds are from them!

Sad that you’ve already played Arkham Asylum and Arkham City so much that you know the Riddler map by heart? Lamenting the fact that Arkham Origins won’t be out until October? Put your tissues away, puddin’ ’cause I’ve got a dose of the Bat just for you!

"I'm Batman."

“I’m Batman.”

Check it out! You can be Killer Croc, Two Face, The Joker, The Penguin or the Dark Knight himself! From what I gather, this is basically Settlers of Catan with the B-man. You work to take control of Gotham City, fighting crooks and takin’ names the whole way!

Next up on TG’s list of awesome geekery is something for the Trekkers (“Trekkies” is not PC, people).

"Paper, the final frontier."

“Paper, the final frontier.”

Yes, my friends, that is made of PAPER! Its the latest in papercraft from Think Geek! The paper craft book contains all the pieces needed to build the ultimate paper model of the original USS Enterprise 1701! There’s even electronics and lights to make it even more awesome!

Guys, I found an awesome blog this week through Pinterest (you know, besides my own). Its all about crafts from Doctor Who! Check out this amazeballs crib I found:

Rock-a-bye, Doctor in the treetop...

Huff the Hubs and I are registering tonight. Think Babies R Us carries this?

And speaking of DW, check out pictures from this AMAZING Doctor Who-themed wedding!

"I'm rubbish at weddings. Especially my own."

“I’m rubbish at weddings. Especially my own.”

I love the stamps!

I love the stamps!

You can check out all the pics here and totally be jealous that you didn’t have a Whovian wedding. (I think I may tell Hermione when she grows up that I’ll plan her wedding for her…)

Have a great weekend, everyone! And if you go to the OKC Marathon on Sunday, be sure to cheer for the pregnant woman crying whilst running (AKA, me).

Fan Girl Friday

Man. Its been a week.

After what happened Monday in Boston, the massive manhunt going on today, the explosion in Texas, and what we Okies are remembering today…It can make you feel really down. I think we could all use some geek-tastic giggles to get us through to the weekend.

First up, is a delicious find from The Little Pink Blog! Its a Harry Potter-inspired cocktail! This blog has many Potter potions that will help you ring in the weekend!

Its happy hour at Hogwarts!

Alright, Fan Girls, hold on to your fezzes! Look at one of the press photos just released from the set of the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special!

Cannot. Stop. Smiling.

Cannot. Stop. Smiling.

I see many giggles and squeals in my future.

I can think of one person that will not likely be smiling…my favorite finicky feline. Check out the latest shirt from my peeps over at Think Geek!

"I hate this shirt."

“I hate this shirt.”

Guys. Get ready to have your mind blown.

You know Carson from Downton Abbey? Who am I kidding, of course you do! Well, did you know our favorite butler is married to Professor Umbridge?! Let’s hope she’s nicer to Carson than she was to her students.

"Repeat after me, Countess: 'I must not tell lies'."

“Repeat after me, Countess: ‘I must not tell lies’.”

And lastly, did anyone else see Harrison Ford on Jimmy Kimmel? If you didn’t, I have two words for you: You’re welcome.

Fan Girl Friday

Happy Friday!

Man, oh man, I’ve got some geeky goodies that will knock you out of your Crocs!

Let’s check ’em out shall we?

Love all of space but can’t seem to trap your own star? You’re in luck! Thanks to Think Geek, you can take the constellations with you wherever you go!

Nice legs, Orion.

This next find I may have to purchase for Huff the Hubs. He LOVES Mega Man. The guy even has a Mega Man air freshener hanging up in his Jeep! But with this, he could pretend to be the super cyborg even in his sleep!

Dreaming of taking down Dr. Wily.

An R.O.U.S. that’s cuddly and cute? Inconceivable! Actually, not anymore. Check out Think Geek‘s latest creation from the wonderful world of The Princess Bride:

And finally, I leave you with a bit of music. Its an epic rap battle between two of my favorite doctors: Brown and Who!

Fan Girl Thursday

I know, I know… Its called Fan Girl Friday. And as much as I love alliterations, I have something else planned for tomorrow and not a dang thing planned to blog about today. So, Fan Girl Friday becomes Fan Girl Thursday.

A portable movie theater! You know, because travel DVD players are so 2009.

A portable movie theater! You know, because travel DVD players are so 2009.

Are you one of those people that like to show thousands of vacation photos to others, despite audible sighs of exasperation? No? Just me? Hmm… Well I guess I should rejoice, because now I can show my pics of Harry Potter world to an entire room of people at once! All I need is this awesome projector from Microvision.

How adorable is this R2D2 baby quilt?! So cute I’m considering learning how to sew. My only hope (see what I did there?) is that it also makes noises like the original droid.

Our love is intergalactic.

Our love is intergalactic.

I only wish that when Huff the Hubs and I got married, we were able to get these! I love the quotes and how the middle part looks like a Death Star. {Sigh} Nerd love is the best.

Learn to make crumpets even the Dowager would love.

I. NEED. THIS. BOOK. Seriously. I have the Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook and the Star Wars Cookbook! This would go great with my recipe collection! With this book, you can learn how to make such delicacies as Lady Mary’s Crab Canapes and Mrs. Patmore’s Christmas Pudding! Not only that, but each recipe also gives etiquette tips so you won’t get the stink-eye from Carson for using the wrong fork.

...for about fifteen minutes.

…for about fifteen minutes.

Ah, dial-up. I do not miss you. Its so weird to me to think that kids today have no idea what dial-up is or that Mariah Carey was married before Nick Cannon. If you want to show your age, er, I mean, world experience, you can don this shirt from Skreened. And if that doesn’t make you look older than Reeboks, just carry a Walkman with a cassette of New Kids on the Block singing Covergirl.
