Its official: we’re halfway through January. And, already so much has happened! I couldn’t bring myself to write a blog post yesterday because I was so torn up about the passing of Alan Rickman. Though I bleed the red and gold of Gryffindor House, I think we can all say that, right now, we’re all Slytherins.

The passing of such a great actor and the man we’ve all come to love as he portrayed one of the most misunderstood characters in the HP universe, has really left a hole in so many people’s hearts.

Yesterday, at Harry Potter World in Florida, fans showed their grief in beautiful ways. A large group banded in front of the Hogwarts ride, wands held high.

And inside, a single lily was placed outside of Snape’s potion’s classroom:

Lily left at Snape's Classroom Door

Rest in peace, Alan. We will always remember you.

Now, I’d like to switch gears and show you some delightfully dorky deals I’ve found to brighten your mood!

Over at The Geeky Hostess, there’s not only recipes but there’s also one-of-a-kind finds sure to bring a smile to your face! Like this ah-may-zing three-pack of fandom teas!

Geeky-Hostess-Tea-Combo HP Firefly Doctor Who

The 3-pack includes Mechanic’s Blend (Firefly), Doctor’s Blend (Doctor Who), and Lion’s Blend (Gryffindor/Harry Potter)! I’m a part of all three fandoms so this is PERF for me! (Hint, hint, Huff the Hubs!)

Huff the Tot hasn’t worn bibs in a loooooong time (though, she–and I–probably should!). But soon, we’ll be adding to our brood and we’ll need to dig those things out of storage. But, I think I may buy a few of these, just to keep those meal time messes humorous:

Travelling Sideshow Bibs

These silly sideshow bibs not only protect the kiddo from messes, but also help you have pictures that will no doubt embarrass them in the future! Its a win-win! Ha!

Even though I work from home, I know how it can be working in an office. Some days, you just do NOT want to make small talk with people. And, there’s really no way to let people know this without coming off as a jerk. So let your mug do the talking for you!

Mixed Messages Mug

This mug from Fred Flare comes with re-positionable letters so you can let your coworkers know when you’ve finally had enough coffee to make it through 10 minutes of chit-chat!

Happy Friday Star Wars Release Day, y’all! I am so stinking excited to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens I can barely stand it! Sadly, I couldn’t get tickets until Monday evening, so I’m thinking I’ll be on a “social media blackout” until then. I’ve had waaay too many things spoiled just by scrolling through my newsfeed. I’ve learned my lesson.

Today is not only momentous because Jedis and Storm Troopers are back in the cinemas, but also because it’s exactly ONE week until Christmas! If you’re still trying to get those last-minute/hard-to-buy-for gifts knocked off your To Do list, I can help!

For the “silly walker” in your life, look no further than the Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail 40th Anniversary Edition!

Just don’t be offended if they try to click the heels on the charms to go home in the middle of your Christmas party.

For the overworked/sarcastic mother in your life (which, let’s face it, is basically every mom!), let them don this little beauty so everyone can see their hilarious snark:

I childproofed my house necklace

Pretty sure my mom probably said this a few times when my sisters and I were little, ha!

Have you finished your shopping yet? Better hurry!

Doesn’t it feel like we were just here seven days ago? I guess that’s the thing about Fridays; they’re kind of a weekly thing! And what better way to celebrate Friday and all of its glory than with geeky goodies for everyone?

Got a mighty girl in your midst that needs a heroine she can emulate (besides her amazing mum, of course) while eating her crackers and drinking juice? Then look no further than this awesome dinner set from Perpetual Kid!

Y’all, I have FINALLY gotten caught up on Once Upon a Time, and holy cow! So much is going on in the town of Storybrooke! AND, so much is going on HERE with our favorite cast! At Comic Con, it was revealed that our OUAT characters are getting a Vinyl Pop makeover!

OUAT Vinyl Pop

Premiering on August 15th, the show will talk all things Who! According to David Tennant News, “…they’ll revisit eight of the most popular Doctor Who episodes of the past ten years of Doctor Who’s modern era…there will be never-before-seen interviews with the cast and creators. There will also be fun new segments, trivia, fan-generated content and tons of Comic-Con footage.” SQUEEEEE!
Summer heat got you locked up inside but the neighborhood kids all up in your lawn? Don’t go “Gran Torino” yet. Just pick up one of these bad boys and enemies (and youths) will stay off your grass:
Game of Gnomes
This deadly King of Gnomes takes what he wants and listens to no one. Which is why his throne is made up of garden rakes and spades he’s lifted from his enemies cold, marble hands. Though he may only be 10 inches tall, he can strike fear into the hearts of gnomes everywhere. And possibly neighborhood cats.

Happy Friday, people! I’ve got a plethora of dorky delights for you today including movie news, our favorite Doctor showing up on television, and nostalgia overload!

I love reading. I mean, who doesn’t? Idiots, that’s who. (Or is it whom?) Anyway, if you’re out and about and sans book, make it easy for fellow bookworms to see that you are one of their tribe with these a-DORK-able socks:

sup nerd socks

I LOVE these! I think all my friends will be getting a pair for Christmas. That is, if I can wait that long. Maybe they’ll get them as a Columbus Day present. People do that, right?

Ever since Gracepoint went off the air, I’ve been having major David Tennant withdrawals. And its not like Huff the Babe will sit down and let me drool over DT on Doctor Who. Thankfully, Disney has heard my plea and will be throwing me a toddler-friendly bone! David Tennant will be voicing a character on Jake and the Neverland Pirates!

David Tennant on Jake and the Neverland Pirates

The character, and evil genie named Dread, will appear in a few episodes of the show in the coming months! Set your DVR’s, mommas!

Y’all, I am so excited about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I’m even MORE excited because I just heard that soon after TFA comes out, there will be a stand alone film all about a young Han Solo!

Han Solo Solo Movie

The film is set to release May 25, 2018. And, according to Yahoo News, the story “focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel.” The film is being written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan, the geniuses that brought us 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie! EEEEE! I. CANNOT. WAIT.

When I was a kid, I LURVED Goosebumps by R.L. Stine. Seriously. Anytime the book fair came to school, I dropped mad dollas on some GB. Be still my 90’s girl heart because a film all about the books and author is coming out this year! Not only that, but the author is played by Jack Black! Y’all, this is going to be legen-wait for it-DARY! Check out the trailer:

And if that wasn’t enough nostalgia for you, take a stroll down 90’s memory lane with the latest video from Owl City (featuring my favorite boys, Hanson!) of their new song, Unbelievable:

Happy chilly Friday!

Winter is in full swing now here in Oklahoma. And, for the rest of the world, winter is coming. (Like that segue?)

And what better way to prep for winter (and another blood-bath-filled season on your favorite HBO series) than by making lots of yummy baked treats? And where will you store such treats? In a jar fit for a khaleesi.

Don't awaken the dragon.

The second film installment in the Hunger Games series opened last night. Show your solidarity with Katniss as she fights her way through the arena with this awesome bangle from Think Geek:

"A gold token so we can all match."

As the chilly weather approaches, you don’t want Old Man Winter (AKA, The Ice King) slowing you down as you fight monsters, goblins, and vampires for riches! Bundle up like the great adventurer himself! Yellow pooch sidekick not included.

Algebraic!

Tomorrow is the day we’ve all been waiting for, Whovians. Its the 50th Anniversary special: The Day of the Doctor. I. CANNOT. WAIT. I’ve already got a list of snacks I’m going to indulge in whilst sitting in front of the telly (and oh yes, it includes fish fingers and custard as well as jammy dodgers) and I think I’ve found just the thing to wear:

"Not bad for a man in his jim jams, eh?"

“Not bad for a man in his jim jams, eh?”

Band Nerds?

I used to think that people in band were nerds. After all, they played instruments and didn’t seem to have any athletic ability. That was the definition of a nerd, right?

Oh how wrong I was. I remember going to my first OU Football game about four years ago and seeing The Pride do their thang at halftime. It was pouring down rain and yet they still looked and sounded AMAZING. I was so impressed with their hard work and commitment. I felt like they were working just as hard as the guys in the jerseys.

Just think about it: people in band are probably up at the school/university just as much if not more than athletes. If they’re in marching band, they’re stomping around for hours out in the hot sun in the spring and summer or freezing their tails off in the fall and winter.

They’ve got dedication coming out the wazoo! I tried learning to play the guitar and I could barely pluck out Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star! These people are playing many complex songs they learned like, a week ago! And they sound good!

Still not convinced? Check out these amazing videos of marching bands:

(This post came to mind when my friend posted a video of the Ohio State marching band doing this awesome halftime show! They have also done a Disney tribute! Magic!)

It’s the end of July and we all know what that means. No, not back-to-school sales, San Diego Comic Con!

Every year near the 20th of July, the sunny seaside town of San Diego (founded by the Germans*, you know) is flooded with geeky hordes of DND lovers, cosplay fanatics, and larping lunatics. It’s a great time to be an American.

Four years ago, I was able to go to “The Con” (that’s what we “in the know” refer to it as) and I had an absolute BLAST! Hands down, one of the most fun weeks I’ve ever had.

I’ve been seeing countless tweets and status updates from folks at The Con. It made me misty-eyed for my Con experience back in ’09, so I’m going to take you down a trip on Memory Lane.

Before going to Comic Con, I wasn’t sure what to expect. All I knew was: David Tennant was going to be there and so was the cast of New Moon. That’s all I cared about. Seriously.

When we arrived and got our badges, that’s when everything started to “get real”. I thought, “Holy crap. This is like, a really big thing!” (<– That’s what she said.)

Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!

Badges? We don’t need no stinkin’ badges!

There were people in costumes EVERYWHERE. Some of them were odd (we always assumed that the weird costumes that we didn’t recognize HAD to be from anime. I was NOT a fan of anime back then) and some were downright awesome:

Quail Man!

Quail Man!

This was taken five minutes before I yelled at them for cutting. You may look like the Doctor, but that doesn't mean I won't turn on you.

This was taken five minutes before I yelled at them for cutting. You may look like the Doctor, but that doesn’t mean I won’t turn on you.

I didn’t quite grasp just how many people came to Comic Con until we stood in line for the New Moon panel. The NM panel wasn’t on until much later in the afternoon, but we soon discovered that you have to sit through some stuff you may not want to in order to see who you want to see (i.e., the trailer and panel for The Final Destination: 3D. There are certain things you can’t unsee).

That day, the panel started off pretty nice; it was an hour-long Disney preview panel hosted by Patton Oswalt, also known as the voice of Remi from Ratatouille. He talked about some upcoming Disney movies and brought out Tim Burton. Tim Freaking Burton, y’all.

After discussing Alice In Wonderland, Mr. Burton said he had a surprise for us…His surprise? Johnny The Hottie Depp. When he walked out onto the stage, my sister started to sweat and I thought my bestie was going to go into labor (she was 5 months preggo at the time). It. Was. Amazing.

Oh, Johnny...

Oh, Johnny…

Sidebar: later on in the week, my sister and I were walking around the main floor and we saw someone in a squirrel costume. Here’s the conversation my sister and I had:

Bridget: Is that a squirrel?

Me: I think so.

Bridget: What’s that from?

Me: *disgusted voice* Ugh, probably some anime or something.

When we got home, we were watching E! News and were shocked to find out that the person in the squirrel costume was Johnny Depp! Moral of the story? If you see someone dressed in a costume that doesn’t seem to fit any genre of nerdom, take a picture with them. It could be a celebrity.

Anywhoo, back to my main point: the panels at CC are great! You never know what you might see. Like the cast of Chuck singing Queen’s Fat Bottom Girls:

Jeffster!

Jeffster!

Or David Tennant wearing a Stormtrooper shirt:

My hearts beat for Ten.

My hearts beat for Ten.

Or the chance to get a picture with Milo Ventamiglia:

"Jess" and Jessie!

“Jess” and Jessie!

Between the panels, the booths, and the costumes, Comic Con is one of those things that unless you’ve been, you can’t really grasp the nerdy magnificence. I wish I was going this year but evidently, you can’t fly when you’re 32 weeks pregnant. Sigh. Oh well, there’s always next year!

*Yes, I know San Diego wasn’t really founded by Germans. Clearly you’ve never seen Anchorman.
