Huff the Hubs has been doing this program called The Ketogenic Diet, so I’ve been trying to find ways to help him have low-carb dinners (homeboy is on his own at lunch) without putting more work on myself. One of our menu staples is spaghetti–its easy, its cheap, there are easy ways to make it healthy, and–BONUS–my kids will eat it (translation: I only have to cook ONE meal). But I needed to be able to make it low-carb for the hubs. I’ve used a spaghetti squash before but with two kids, its too much work. Thankfully, Target had my back! The kids and I were doing our weekly Target run and I spied this:

A veggie that’s already spiralized, organic, and it only takes 3-4 minutes to cook? YES, PLEASE!

All I did was toss the entire container into a skillet with a teensy bit of EVOO and a dash of salt and pepper and stirred every now and then for 3-4 minutes. BAM. Done.

I added a little to my whole wheat noodles because I was nervous about how it would taste…

It was really good! I actually liked it a bit better than the whole wheat noodles! And check out the nutrition facts:

You could eat the entire box of zucchini spirals and still eat three times FEWER calories than ONE serving of whole wheat noodles! Plus, you get all the health benefits from the zucchini!

Y’all know I’m all about the new products–ESPECIALLY when Oreo comes out with a new flavor of their classic cookies! Today I’ve got a two-for-one Try It with a healthy item and a not-so-healthy item!

First up, new Popped Salted Caramel Bites from Kind! I love this company’s snack bars, so when I saw this at the store, I was super excited to try it! These little bites are packed with whole grains: oats, buckwheat, millet, amaranth, quinoa, and popped sorghum as well as yummy popcorn, caramel, and sea salt!

At only 110 calories, this yummy treat is exactly what I’ve been looking for! Its salty, its sweet–its great! Two thumbs WAAAAYYYY up!

Up next, the newest flavor of Oreo: Dunkin Donuts Mocha middles Oreo!

Y’all. OH. EM. GEEEEEE! These things were SO tasty! Oreos are basically delicious no matter what flavor (except that whole watermelon phase–bleck!) I love coffee and coffee-flavored stuff, so I thought these were DELISH! I really want to try it swirled in a cup of cappuccino-flavored ice cream! Mmm….

I guess summer is the season for new products because they have been popping up everywhere! The other day I went to the store to pick up some coffee creamer and I spotted this right next to it:

IMG_3584

I snagged a bottle and decided to try it out in my morning cuppa later. All you have to do is brew your coffee as usual, and then hold down the nozzle for 5-7 seconds.

Let it set for about a minute and enjoy!

This was….okay. I mean, I really like coffee and I like lattes. Maybe I didn’t put enough in my cup or maybe I needed to add some sugar, but it didn’t really taste super “caramel-y”. I think I’ll try again with more sugar and maybe a squirt of Hershey’s caramel.

A friend of mine that lives out of state has been telling me about today’s Try It for a few weeks now. But, for the longest time, I could not find them ANYWHERE locally. Then, the other day, SUCCESS!

IMG_3093

Duncan Hines new Perfect Size for 1 line has eighteen different flavors from decadent to fruity and even a few for the morning!

Everything you need comes in the handy dandy little pouch, all you have to do is choose a mug! I think I chose well:

Pour in the pouch, add 3 tablespoons water (or milk!) and mix.

Then, microwave for 1 minute, 10 seconds. Let it cool and enjoy!

OH. EM. GEE, y’all. I really wanted to take a picture of it once it was on my fork (because the above picture does NOT do it justice) but I seriously couldn’t stop eating it to snap a pic! It was SO. FREAKING. GOOD. Its a little high on the calorie count (300 to be exact!) so this will be a cheat day/I-have-calories-to-spare-and-its-8pm type of treat for me, but DAAAANNNGGGG! So delicious!

Y’all know I’m trying to eat healthier and also find ways to get veggies into Huff the Tot. Her diet mainly consists of chicken nuggets, crackers, yogurt, and Pop-Tarts. I’m not kidding. I’m constantly trying to find ways to get her to try new foods or even sneak veggies and fruit onto her plate without her realizing. So when a family friend told my mom about a new product, I HAD to try it!

IMG_2559

Apparently a lot of other moms had the same idea I did because every Walmart I went to was COMPLETELY sold out! My mom saw them at a grocery store and grabbed the second to last bag for me!

These cauliflower tots contain a full serving of cauliflower in 6 tots, are made with no artificial flavors or preservatives, and seem like a great replacement to tater tots!

I preheated my oven to 425 and popped these bad boys in for about 25 minutes (I waited until they were a teensy bit brown before taking them out. I like my tots crispy!) Then, I took them out of the oven and tried them.

Y’all, these were REALLY good! I sprinkled some sea salt on top and they were nummy! I honestly couldn’t tell a big difference between these and regular tots!

Green Giant makes two other flavors in the Veggie Tots: Broccoli and Broccoli and Cheese! I feel like these were a loooooong time coming and I don’t see why they haven’t released them before now! They’re awesome!

We all know I love trying new products, especially if they can help me (somewhat) stay on track with my healthy eating/weight loss goals. I found two new goodies this week at the grocery store and I can’t wait to share them with you!

I’ve actually talked about one of these before. Sargento has a great line of snacks, Balanced Breaks, that have a small serving of cheese along with nuts and berries. But NOW the company has launched a spinoff with–oh yes–CHOCOLATE! They’re called Sweet Breaks and they come in a variety of flavors. This is the one I chose:

img_2051

img_2058

I really like the original and the new one did NOT disappoint! It was nice to have something sweet to offset the savory of the cheese and, at only 170 calories, it makes a great snack! These get an A+!

I know I’ve told you before that my all-time favorite dessert is cheesecake. I firmly believe that cheesecake was brought to this world as a gift from the heavens. Seriously. The only drawback is that it has so many calories. Womp, womp. That’s why when I saw this, I was SO. FREAKING. EXCITED.

img_2050

These cheesecake cups come in at only 170 calories and there are no artificial flavors or dyes used in any of the four flavors! I couldn’t wait to give this a try!

img_2052

This was…okay. I mean, it wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t the same as a piece of cheesecake (that would’ve been a miracle, actually). But it still satisfied my sweet tooth and kept me from pigging out on something else! I think next time I’ll crumble up a reduced fat graham cracker on top!

Y’all know I love to try new products, and I have found two new ones I can’t wait to share with you! One is on the healthy side and the other? Wellll…. not so much. Whoops.First up, a new twist on spaghetti!

When my family and I tried the Body for Life program about 8 years ago, we switched all of our pasta from the starchy, white noodles to whole grain. And, honestly, we couldn’t tell a difference. So when I saw these noodles at the store, I was hopeful:

img_1780

These non-GMO noodles are made with spinach, zucchini, broccoli, parsley, and kale–all GREAT for you greens! I was a little nervous that these noodles would have a distinctive taste…kale is basically spinach’s dirty, disgusting cousin after all. But I couldn’t even taste the greens! And actually, I was so caught up in enjoying my spaghetti, I forgot to take a pic of the cooked pasta!

My all-time favorite dessert is cheesecake. Because of this, whenever I see cheesecake-flavored anything I HAVE to try it! So when I spotted these at Walmart, they immediately went into the buggy!

img_1776

img_1777

These were… Okay. To me they were more white chocolate than cheesecake-y. I think I would have liked them better had there been some that had a graham cracker filling, just to break up the ultra-sweetness of the white chocolate flavor.
