If you were like me in elementary school, you yearned for the days that the book fair came to town. Because then, you could buy up all the new Goosebumps books (especially those awesome “choose your own adventure” ones) so your weekends would be set. Ever wish you could be in that world? We’re one step closer with this:

jvgh_goosebumps_board_game

The game, for 2-6 players, lets YOU be the monsters from R.L. Stine’s creepy books competing to make it to the end of Madison Street and evading the author himself!

Miss the good ole days before mortgages and water bills? The days when you dreamed about sipping Shasta on the beach with JTT? Bring those daydreams home with this whimsical pillow from Etsy shop Dirtsastudio:

Even if you didn’t get that mansion like the game promised, at least your living room will be awesome!

Anyone else excited for the reboot of Rocko’s Modern Life? I’m just desperate for a day-long binge of my fave Nickelodeon shows from the 90’s! In the meantime, I can grab these cute Vinyl Pops from Think Geek!

Happy Friday, people! I’ve got a plethora of dorky delights for you today including movie news, our favorite Doctor showing up on television, and nostalgia overload!

I love reading. I mean, who doesn’t? Idiots, that’s who. (Or is it whom?) Anyway, if you’re out and about and sans book, make it easy for fellow bookworms to see that you are one of their tribe with these a-DORK-able socks:

sup nerd socks

I LOVE these! I think all my friends will be getting a pair for Christmas. That is, if I can wait that long. Maybe they’ll get them as a Columbus Day present. People do that, right?

Ever since Gracepoint went off the air, I’ve been having major David Tennant withdrawals. And its not like Huff the Babe will sit down and let me drool over DT on Doctor Who. Thankfully, Disney has heard my plea and will be throwing me a toddler-friendly bone! David Tennant will be voicing a character on Jake and the Neverland Pirates!

David Tennant on Jake and the Neverland Pirates

The character, and evil genie named Dread, will appear in a few episodes of the show in the coming months! Set your DVR’s, mommas!

Y’all, I am so excited about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I’m even MORE excited because I just heard that soon after TFA comes out, there will be a stand alone film all about a young Han Solo!

Han Solo Solo Movie

The film is set to release May 25, 2018. And, according to Yahoo News, the story “focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel.” The film is being written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan, the geniuses that brought us 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie! EEEEE! I. CANNOT. WAIT.

When I was a kid, I LURVED Goosebumps by R.L. Stine. Seriously. Anytime the book fair came to school, I dropped mad dollas on some GB. Be still my 90’s girl heart because a film all about the books and author is coming out this year! Not only that, but the author is played by Jack Black! Y’all, this is going to be legen-wait for it-DARY! Check out the trailer:

And if that wasn’t enough nostalgia for you, take a stroll down 90’s memory lane with the latest video from Owl City (featuring my favorite boys, Hanson!) of their new song, Unbelievable:

Happy fangirling!

Time Gone By…

I don’t know why, but here lately I’ve been feeling super nostalgic. Maybe it’s all the things from the 80’s and 90’s I’ve been seeing on Pinterest and Buzzfeed. Maybe it’s because I’m pregnant and really feeling like a “grown-up”; but I find myself constantly yearning for the days gone by.

The days before cell phones were in everybody’s pockets, when there was no Facebook, and social media meant passing notes in between classes.

I miss the days when the internet was new and people talked on the phone or *gasp* in person. But mostly I think I miss the days when we were so much more innocent.

Think about it. When I was in elementary school, there had not yet been a Columbine, the attacks on NYC or the Pentagon, and the biggest question on everyone’s mind was: “Are Ross and Rachel ever going to get together?!”

So in light of all my nostalgia, I give you the things I miss most about childhood:

1. The skating rink.

The club for underagers.

The club for underagers.

When I was a tween, the hottest place to go on Friday night was South Skate. I LOVED that place! Every Friday night, from 7-11 pm, me, my friends, and my sister were on 4 wheels. I had my first kiss at the skating rink, got my heart broken there, and was introduced to gloriously unhealthy mixture of cheese-from-a-can nachos (made with Doritos).

2. Cartoons.

I'm Buster Bunny. And I'm Babs Bunny. No relation.

I’m Buster Bunny. And I’m Babs Bunny. No relation.

Call me old fashioned, but I really don’t think that today’s cartoons are that funny. Honestly, I think they’re a little dumb. What happened to the intelligent cartoons like Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, and Batman: The Animated Series?

3. Electronics were not mainstream.

I can make you sound like a chipmunk with the press of a button.

I can make you sound like a chipmunk with the press of a button.

The closest thing I had to electronic devices was a Yak Bak and Casio My Magic Diary I got for my birthday when I was 11. We actually had to use our imaginations and we didn’t text—unless you include intricately folded handwritten notes.

4. Not having to make so many decisions.

Do I want to paint my nails or eat another Otter Pop...?

Do I want to paint my nails or eat another Otter Pop…?

Even though I wanted some independence, it was nice to not have to constantly know what was going on at a given time. I loved how freeing that felt. I didn’t have to worry about marking things on a calendar, making sure I was on time for an appointment, or checking that I bought a birthday present for someone. It was all done for me!

5. Knowing less about the world.

The more you know, the more you worry.

The more you know, the more you worry.

Yes, I know knowledge is power. But, sometimes, I wish I wasn’t so informed. Being overwhelmed with such a wealth of information can really grind on your joy. I hate when I turn on the television or pick up a magazine that its like an episode of Fear Factor. I feel like people in the media get together at night and say: “Okay, what can we totally blow out of proportion so people will freak out? *Maniacal laugh*”

When I was a kid, the only thing I wanted to know was if it was going to rain that day (meaning we’d have inside recess).

What about you? Do you miss the “good ole days”?

Remember That One Show…?

The other day, Huff the Hubs and I were talking about shows we watched as kids. We tried thinking of the titles, but mostly we kept saying, “Remember that one show…?” because we couldn’t remember any of the titles.

Well thanks to boredom and the Internet, I’ve found some of my favorite old television shows (and happily, some are on DVD! Woot woot!). So now I’m going to take you down Nostalgia Lane!

SeaQuest DSV

The captain even has a Picard look to him, don't ya think?

The captain even has a Picard look to him, don’t ya think?

I don’t really remember too much about this show other than the fact the Jonathan Brandis was the star and he was to Seaquest what Will Wheaton was to Star Trek TNG.  I know it had something to do with being in a submarine…They were basically the Star Fleet of the sea.

Ocean Girl

Sorry, honey. You're not a real Disney mermaid unless you have a pet talking fish.

Sorry, honey. You’re not a real Disney mermaid unless you have a pet talking fish.

This was another Disney gem. I don’t remember actually watching the show, I just remember the commercials during The Muppet Show that my sisters and I used to make fun of. It was two brothers (one was good-looking, the other not so much; which always made me refer to them as the Prince William and Harry of Disney) standing on the beach and they see a girl in the ocean. And what do they say? “There was a girl, in the ocean.” Yes. That was the whole commercial. And the name of the show? Ocean Girl. This reminds me of Jim Gaffigan’s “You buy Mennen” stand up.

Flash Forward

"So you're saying you're really a mechanic on a space ship called Serenity? What are the odds?"

“So you’re saying you’re really a mechanic on a space ship called Serenity? What are the odds?”

This show was watched religiously in our house! It came on either right before or right after Bug Juice (AKA, America’s first reality show) so I was not to be bothered for that hour. This show tells the story of Tucker and Becca, two best friends since birth/next door neighbors that repeatedly tell people they’re “just friends” even though they secretly love each other. The episode where they kiss (the last episode!) is my favorite. Even as a twelve-year old I was like, “Its about freaking time!” (Also, a young Ryan Gosling is in a few episodes, vying for the attention of Becca. Sadly, he keeps his shirt on the whole time.)

Ready or Not

Besties!

Besties!

This was another one of my favorite Canadian imports. Ready or Not was about two best friends that could not have been more different. Amanda was a whiny, spoiled, princess whereas Busy was a butch, sunflower seed spittin’, tomboy. The possibilities were endless! Well, not so much, seeing as how it only ran for four years. but I still watched!

Teen Angel

Is that Devon Sawa?! And Marcia Brady?!

Is that Devon Sawa?! And Marcia Brady?!

Please tell me I’m not the only one that remembers this TGIF show. It only ran for a season, so you may not unless you were a big TGIF nerd like me. The premise of Teen Angel was: boy dares friend to eat 6-month old hamburger that had fallen under his bed. Friend takes the dare and dies. Dead friend is assigned by God’s cousin to be live friend’s guardian angel and hilarity ensues…I’m starting to see why this show only lasted a season.

What about you? What obscure television shows do you remember/miss?
