Fan Girl Friday Button

Get excited, people! Its the first Fan Girl Friday of the New Year! And I am NOT holding back for the inaugural FGF of 2015!

Huff the Hubs and Brock the Brother-In-Law are OBSESSED with tabletop games. Catan, Risk, Pathfinder; you name it, they love it! Which reminds me of another guy…

ben parks and rec

And speaking of Ben “The Maverick” Wyatt, his fictitious game is about to become a reality! That’s right, The Cones of Dunshire will soon be available for purchase!

Cones of Dunshire

It recently made an appearance at GenCon and game-makers, Mayfair, are starting up a Kickstarter campaign to get it made!

Everyone knows that I am a huge bibliophile. Well, maybe not as much as my sister. Which is why I’m kicking myself for not seeing this sooner! It would’ve been the BEST Christmas present for her!
Pride and Prej Pillow

You can snuggle up with a good book and this comfy back support and read until your eyes go blurry!

As I type this blog post, I’m wearing my Gryffindor sweat pants and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is playing in the background. To say I’m obsessed would be an understatement. Which is why when I saw the instructions for a DIY Hogwarts Express, I did a nerd squeal!

Isn’t this awesome?! Just click the link and you’ll be able to download instructions for your very own train! Now you have a purpose for all of those leftover boxes from Christmas!

Have you always wanted an action figure of yourself, but scared that you’d have the same outcome as Howard and Raj? Well fear no more, Think Geek has you covered! The creative minds over at TG just released new kits for you to create your own action figure!

You can paint them to look like yourself or your favorite comic book hero(ine)! And, while you’re perusing the TG site, check out their clearance! They’ve got AH-MAY-ZING deals!

Happy Fangirling!

Fan Girl Friday

What a week it’s been! My head is STILL spinning from The Walking Dead mid-season finale and I’m having a minor life crisis because my 30th birthday is next week. Needless to say, I need some happy to distract me from the gloom and doom going on right now. So let’s just jump right in, mmkay?

I don’t know about you, but I have been desperately missing my peeps from Pawnee, Indiana! I mean, why would they leave us with such an amazing season finale this spring and then just leave us hanging all summer and fall?

parks and rec

Thankfully, the finale season of Parks and Rec FINALLY has a start date—and sadly, an end date. Looks like Leslie Knope will be back on January 13th! NBC will show back-to-back episodes all the way up to the last episode….on February 24th! Yep, that’s all we get—a freaking month. They better make it a good one!

Yet another show that I absolutely cannot wait to see return is Downton Abbey. And, this week we got to see a sneak peek of this season, complete with cameo by America’s favorite bachelor groom, George Clooney!

EEEEEEEEE! I. CANNOT. WAIT. If you need a little Downton to deck your halls, check out the PBS website for some adorable ornaments!

As the year winds down, we start to take a look back at what 2014 has brought us. Thanks to DJ Earworm, we can hear (and see) the best jams of the year! Check it out:

I’ve been a bad Doctor Who fan this season. I haven’t really been keeping up with it. Sigh. It took everything I had to accept Matt Smith as the new Doctor, so when I saw the first two episodes with Peter Capaldi…I don’t know…I just couldn’t. My hearts still belong to Ten. And, thanks to toy makers in the UK, I never have to let go of him!

This 1:6 scale action figure of The Doctor comes with jacket, Converse, and of course, a great head of hair!

Get ready, Frozen fans, Disney World is about to get a whole lot cooler! (See what I did there?) DW just announced that they will be creating a brand new ride for Epcot Center all about the sisters from Arendelle!

frozen disney

They will have to make some adjustments in the Norway section of Epcot, i.e., they will have to tear down the iconic Maelstrom, which has some people up in arms. Come on, folks. It’s Disney World; there’s revamping all the time. Take a page from Elsa and just let it go.

Fan Girl Friday

Ah, Friday. Once again you grace us with your beautiful presence and boatloads of geeky gossip and fangirl fabulosity to get us through the last few hours of the grind!

Remember last summer when that weirdo-beardo statue of Colin Firth’s Mr. Darcy popped up in a lake in London, leaving many of scratching our heads and thinking, “Huh?” Well, our favorite sexy sleuth has done his own rendition of “Darcy-ing”, wet t-shirt and all! (Warning: this picture is very swoon-worthy. Try not to faint, ladies.)

"I love you, most ardently."

“I love you, most ardently.”

And he’s not just doing this so we can all bask in the glory of Benedict’s beauty. This is one of many shots taken for the “Give Up Clothes for Good” campaign, benefiting cancer research! Its a win-win!

In other crush-worthy-television-nerdy-boy news, the final season of How I Met Your Mother is going to be released on DVD in just 4 days! There’s going to be tons of bonus extras, including a MUCH better ending to the tale of Ted Mosby (but you can watch it before you buy it here) and we FINALLY get an answer to the question that’s been plaguing us since Season One: WHERE DID THE PINEAPPLE COME FROM?!

ted gif

Seriously! We were told that all loose ends were going to be tied up but there’s was no reference to the pineapple incident at all in the season finale! That is, until now. Oh yes my friends, the mystery has been solved:

Comic Con 2015 tickets go on sale in TWO months, people! Hear that, Huff the Hubs? TWO. MONTHS. I think I need to start getting my cosplay outfits ready. Starting with this a-dork-able hoodie from Think Geek!

"Hey, puddin'!"

“Hey, puddin’!”

Isn’t it awesome?! I must has the precious!

Whenever I’m asked what my spirit animal is, its an easy answer: Grumpy Cat. I freaking love that feline! Even though she hates everything, I adore her (yeah, GC is totes a girl!). Which is why I am extremely excited that Lifetime is doing a movie about the kitty this winter. And the voice of the angsty cat? None other than Parks and Rec star, Aubrey Plaza! Isn’t that perfect?!

We hate all the same things.

We hate all the same things.

Do you realize that there are only 96 days until Christmas?! Let that sink in. And, if you’re like me, you know about half a dozen little girls who desperately want Frozen toys. If you’ve been to Target or Wal-Mart lately, you may have noticed that finding anything with Anna, Elsa, or Olaf’s face on it is like searching for a needle in a haystack.

frozen toys

But, according to The Huffington Post, Disney manufacturers WILL be able to provide dolls, action figures, and dress up outfits for your Frozen fan this holiday season! Disney claims they learned their lesson after what happened with The Little Mermaid. Evidently, “researchers” thought that little girls wouldn’t want to play with dolls with red hair (idiots) so they ordered basically ZERO dolls and/or memorabilia! They lost out on a ton of cashola and kids all over were forced to pretend to be Ariel in their bathtubs because there were zilch dolls!

All this talk about shopping and Christmas is getting me amped up for Black Friday! Maybe I should go look at my Black Friday prediction sites…

Treat Yo Self: Mission Accomplished

So, a few weeks ago, I blogged about what I would do if I could have a Treat Yo Self day like Tom and Donna from Parks and Recreation. I wrote down my “dream day”; stuff I would do if I could have a day of pampering and fun. Well friends, yesterday my dream came true!

That’s right, Huff the Hubs let me have my very own Treat Yo Self day! When HtH first proposed this idea to me, I said: “No, that’s okay. I don’t need to do all that stuff.”

To which he replied: “You carried our baby, you birthed our baby, and you keep this house running. You need this.”

I still said it wasn’t necessary. But then I thought back to the 18 hours of labor and my last trimester with the back pain and sleepless nights and thought, “Yeeeahh…I’m doing this.” (Ha!)

So yesterday morning, we dropped our Little Gryffindor at Nana and Papa’s and set out for TYS. I was very excited.

This is also my "Harry Potter World Face".

This is also my “Harry Potter World Face”.

What did we do?

We had brunch:

First time EVER to have Eggs Benedict!

First time EVER to have Eggs Benedict!

Treat yo self.

We got massages:

Ooohh yeeeahhh...

Ooohh yeeeahhh…

Treat yo self.

We splurged on stuff we’ve always wanted to but never did:

90% of HtH's stuff was edible. Seriously.

90% of HtH’s stuff was edible. Seriously.

We didn’t just treat ourselves, either. I told HtH that if we were going to treat ourselves, then I wanted to do something for someone who isn’t able to treat themselves. So I thought about something we could do. I decided I wanted to get a goodie bag together for someone and, when we saw a person that seemed to need some help, we’d give them the bag. I bought a bunch of practical stuff (thick socks, gloves, snacks, hygiene items, water bottles, etc.) and after our adventure, we delivered the bag of goodies.

We also treated our babysitters to some yummy chocolates from Godiva!

After we picked up the baby, I went to get a pedicure. When I got back, Huff the Hubs showed me his TYS project:

"Doc, are you telling me you made a time machine out of a DeLorean?!"

“Doc, are you telling me you made a time machine out of a DeLorean?!”

I was seriously looking forward to yesterday more than my birthday and, honestly, more than Christmas (maybe because TYS was also a joint b-day and Christmas gift). And it wasn’t because of the material things. It was so nice to be able to spend an entire day with just me and Huff the Hubs. We get so busy that we forget that we still need to carve out time for each other. And not just those shorts moments in between dinner and passing out on the couch during the 10:00 news, or during the commute from home to the grocery store. I mean time that is centered on us as a husband and wife and as friends.

It was nice to have no schedule and no place we “had to be”. I highly recommend doing a TYS day at least once a year. Whether you’re married and you want time with your spouse or single and want to go get pampered, I blatantly steal from Nike when I say: “Just do it.” Save your pennies all year and then splurge when the holidays come around. I know I’m not the only one who feels as though the days from October 31st to January 1st go by in a blur.

After we put Hermione to bed last night, HtH said: “Yeah…I think Treat Yo Self is going to be a new tradition with us!”

Seems like Tom and Donna were right:

Preach.

Preach.

Get Ready

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Are you excited?!

thanksgiving

I am.

I know how I’ll be spending my morning:

macy's parade

I’ve already taken the necessary precautions by making sure my wardrobe is not too tight: big pants

I’ve decided which foods I plan to gorge myself on:

ron hogwarts

And those to avoid:

jiggly cranberry

I’ve resigned myself to the fact that someone in my family is going to do something incredibly dumb and will be the subject of jokes for the next few family functions:

monica turkey

And I’ve got my list written (and maps to the stores) for Black Friday shopping:

In other words, “Let’s do this!”

I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving and a safe Black Friday! I’ll see you Monday!

Treat Yo Self!

Whilst on maternity leave, I probably made the greatest purchase of my life: a subscription to Netflix.

Because of said purchase, I have been binge watching all the shows I’ve always wanted to watch. One of these shows is Parks and Recreation.

This show is HILARIOUS. Seriously, if you’ve never watched, do it. Its awesome. Anyway, moving on…

In one of the episodes, Tom (played by Aziz Ansari) and Donna (played by Retta–so cool she only needs one name) are celebrating their annual day of pleasure called: Treat Yo Self Day. What is Treat Yo Self Day? Let my homies explain:

Naturally, this episode cracked me up. But then I started thinking: What if did Treat Yo Self Day? What would I do?

Here’s my TYS game plan (if I ever get to have a TYS Day):

1. Eat three courses of cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory.

Treat yo self.

2. Buy the Body Bugg heart rate monitor I’ve always wanted (so I can make sure I’ve burned of all the calories from the cheesecake).

Treat yo self.

3. Get a massage, facial, and scalp treatment.

Treat yo self.

4. Watch two movies back to back in the Warren Theater Director’s Suites and order the biggest popcorn imaginable.

Treat yo self.

5. Buy something from Sky Mall. I don’t really care what it is, honestly. I just REALLY want to buy something from Sky Mall.

Treat yo self.

6. Buy the boxed set of Frasier and watch it while drinking a milkshake.

Treat. Yo. Self.

What would you do to treat yo self?

Donna. Droppin' truth bombs.

Donna. Droppin’ truth bombs.
