Fan Girl Friday

Happy Friday, Doctor Who Eve!

That’s right, the moment we Whovians have been waiting MONTHS for is FINALLY here!

Tomorrow night we will be able to see the first episode with new Doctor, Peter Capaldi! I know some of us are sad to Matt Smith go (though, admittedly, I was more broken-hearted about the loss of David Tennant) its going to be really great to see a new incarnation of The Doctor!

And, I have everything you need to make your weekend fit for a Whovian!

Soak up the sun with this 4th Doctor-inspired towel from Think Geek! And, even better? It’s on sale! Woo!

Keep calm and carry a towel.

*Bonus Fan Girl Friday find:

I know that its not Who-themed, BUT, this week everyone’s favorite fanboy director gave us a charge to donate to Force for a Change/UNICEF, as well as a sneak peek at one of the new X-Wing’s (even though the wings no longer make an X) from the set of Star Wars: Episode VII! Check it out!

Go donate, people! You could be helping make someone else’s life better AND possibly be able to visit the set! That’s every fangirl/fanboy’s DREAM!

It’s the last Friday in May, people! This year is just FLYING by! Seems like only yesterday I was blogging about Christmas! Well, today is going to feel like Christmas with all the nerdy neatos I’ve rounded up for you!

There has been crazy nostalgia hitting the Twitter-sphere! Two of my favorite show’s casts have reunited this week!

First, the cast of the cancelled-too-soon cult classic, Freaks and Geeks:

freaks and geeks

And, to celebrate The Wonder Years DVDs being released, the Arnold family got together for a photo shoot in their old TV home!

Looking for something to do this weekend? I’ve got just the thing! Call up a couple of friends and play Sheldon’s favorite game! No, not “Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock”—Three-Person Chess! The geniuses over at Think Geek have perfected a circular board so more pals can move their pawns for hours of fun!

Did you see the teaser trailer for the new season of Doctor Who that popped up recently? It doesn’t give too much away…just a couple of shots of Peter Capaldi looking totally bad-a in the Tardis, but still! It got my Whovian heart pumping and ready for August! And, in memory of my favorite Doctor (and the only episode that made me cry like a baby) I think I may need to buy this tee to wear during the premiere!

Woah! Today’s blog post is a little late. Huff the Hubs and I were at the bank seeing how much money they’d give us for a house. Luckily, they didn’t laugh us out of the building…but it was very close. Needless to say, I need some nerdiness to cleanse my pallette.

This week has reminded me that being an adult really sucks. And being a kid is awesome: no career worries, no financial struggles, and most of all, no frets about how your body is breaking down. So when I saw these from artist Craig Davison, I got a heart full of nostalgia. Davison is a huge Star Wars fan and wanted to capture the magic of a child’s imagination. (Click the link for more!)

Whovians get excited! Filming for the new season with new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, has started in Cardiff! Wooo! We know Jenna Coleman will be reprising her role as the Doctor’s spunky side-kick, Clara Oswald, but we’ve also gotten word that there will be a secondary companion (a la Mickey and Rory). His name is Samuel Anderson and will be playing Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School where Clara also teaches. I wonder if there’s a romance between the two….?

I’m not much of a jewelry girl, but I am a Harry Potter girl. So when I saw these House rings, from AWESOME site Tomorrow’s Unknown, I squealed like a little girl and immediately showed them to Huff the Hubs (our anniversary’s coming up in a few months, right?!).

Got a pooch who loves Picard just as much as you? Then Think Geek has what your four-legged fandog needs! Check out this awesome Star Trek-inspired captain’s chair dog bed!

Have a great weekend, peeps!

Happy Friday (and happy New Year!) everyone!

I hope you’re ready for some awesomely nerdy finds! I can’t believe I haven’t done a Fan Girl Friday since LAST YEAR! (Cheap pun, but it had to be done.)

Have you seen The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug yet? I saw it a few weeks ago. It was…pretty good. Not as good as the first one, but still a must-see! If you go soon, you can keep comfy cozy in the cold weather with this awesome There and Back Again scarf:

One scarf to warm them all.

And speaking of The Hobbit, check out this LOTR-inspired dining room set from Geek Universe:

Huff the Hubs and I have been looking for a new bedspread. I wonder if I could convince him to indulge in this one? All I would need is a giant pencil-pillow!

All my best ideas come at night, now I can write them down!

The Doctor Who Christmas special aired a week and a half ago, but I didn’t get to watch it until this week. Not going to lie, it was a little hard to follow. And Capaldi’s regeneration? A little too quick for my taste. BUT, I’ll keep watching. And Maybe even nuzzle up with one of these plush pillows from BohoBear:

Sleep with visions of Time Lords dancing in your head.

Did anyone get video games for Christmas? I didn’t buy any for HtH this year because he still has some from TWO years ago that still have the plastic on them. Seriously. I’m afraid he’ll be a hoarder if I continue to buy him video games. Kind of like this guy. He’s got the largest collection of video games: 10,607 games and over different 100 consoles!

Happy Friday, Geeklings!

By now, you must’ve seen the news. The new Doctor is Peter Capaldi.

What are your thoughts?

At first I was like, “Erm…he looks like Satan.”

"Burn with me..."

“Burn with me…”

But then, slowly, I got over my fear that he was the Prince of Darkness when other, more flattering pictures of him surfaced:

"I'm the new Doctor! Smashing!"

“I’m the new Doctor! Smashing!”

I’m still not sure.

But, then again, when Matt Smith first started, I was very wary of him too. Its hard for me because my two hearts really only beat for David Tennant. BUT, Matt did a pretty decent job and even got me to cry over his plight a time or two. I do think its time for an older Doctor and I like that they’re not using someone too “Hollywood” (I seriously read on the internet that people wanted Harry Styles from One Direction as the Doctor. REALLY?!)

If you’re still not sold, check out this article from Buzzfeed. It might make a believer out of you!

AnyWHO, congrats Peter! Moving on…

Many of you know that I have mad love for the Muppets. I used to watch The Muppet Show as a kid, along with Muppet Babies; I just can’t get enough of those polyester puppets! When the Muppet movie (the latest one) hit theaters, I was so excited! Well guess what?! I have more reasons to squeal! LOOK AT THIS!

{Insert Kermit arm flail} “Yaaaaaaaayyyy!”

Whilst perusing Think Geek this week, checking off things from our baby registry and adding a few a couple hundred new things, I saw something that I think every dog (and cat) Momma and Daddy needs:

"Nom,nom, SQUIRREL! Nom, nom..."

“Nom,nom, SQUIRREL! Nom, nom…”

Each kit comes with a reusable tray and a mix to make healthy, organic treats for your four-legged baby! AND! Added bonus: you can actually make these in the microwave in three minutes!

School started back this week much to the sadness of teachers and school children everywhere. But instead of crying that school is starting and reluctantly trudging off to that big brick prison everyday, hold your head high and carry yourself with super hero confidence with this:

I am the night; but only after school hours.

I am the night; but only after school hours.

The backpack even comes with a cowl and wings to help you evade teachers asking: “Where’s your homework?” and “Why are you talking like that?”

And finally, did you knw that this week was Geek Week on YouTube?! Me neither! Evidently, YT is devoting its homepage to all things geeky! Check it out!

(Sidebar, if you’re familiar with Felicia Day, she played Charlie in Supernatural, Dr Holly in Eureka, Penny in Dr Horrible, and Vi in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So she’s got some geek street cred!)
