Happy Friday, everyone! The first week of December is already in the books and we’re so much closer to Christmas! Eeee! And, to celebrate, I found some awesome nerdy nifties to make your weekend start off with a bang!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters in TWO weeks, people. TWO WEEKS! And everyone is feeling the force! Including Ample Hills Creamery outside of Brooklyn, NY.

They have two new ice cream flavors to celebrate the newest Star Wars film: Light Side and Dark Side. Light Side is made up of marshmallow ice cream with homemade crispie clusters and a dash of cocoa crispies (this, according to the creamery, “represents the dark side still lurking within the light”). The Dark Side is dark chocolate ice cream with fudge brownies, cocoa crispies, and white chocolate sprinkles to “represent the light still hiding within the dark, waiting to burst through.”

There have been so many great songs to come out of 2015 and DJ Earworm has done it again by releasing his latest mash-up of the year’s best songs! Check it out!

So, I wasn’t really into the whole Pokemon thing (it was a little after my time…I was more of a Pogs girl) but even I have to admit that this next find is super cool! A real-life Pokemon gym opens in Osaka, Japan this month!

Pixar/Toy Story‘s 20th anniversary was this week and they wanted everyone to basically fall into a pit of sadness and nostalgia when they posted this beautiful video to celebrate! Get the tissues ready!

Happy fangirling!

Egg Hunt!

As I woke up this morning in a sea of Reese’s Peanut Butter Egg wrappers and wiped the Peeps sugar dust from my cheek, I realized I didn’t participate or watch an Easter egg hunt at all this weekend! My kid is only 7 months old, so an actual egg hunt would be more like me trying to balance a baby, a camera, and a basket while simultaneously looking at the ground, making sure I don’t step on any hard-boiled eggs. In other words: it would’ve been a disaster. But still, I was sad I didn’t partake in this Easter tradition.

So I went on a different kind of Easter Egg hunt–a virtual egg hunt!

Thanks to Doctor Whowe know Easter Eggs (hidden messages/symbols) can be found in just about any kind of entertainment.

This first video has all kinds of video games from the 70’s to now!

This video is more for the hardcore Marvel comic book lovers, but its still super interesting! (I never caught the fact that Stark is wearing a Black Sabbath tee, seeing as how one of Sabbath’s biggest hits was titled Iron Man.)

You know I couldn’t do a blog about Easter Eggs without highlighting the KING of EE’s–Pixar!

(This video is in Spanish, lo siento if you don’t know how to habla Español. I understand enough to know that at the 10-minute mark, the narrator says that the number on the dial on the Monster’s Inc. practice scare room is actually the phone number for Pixar HQ! ¡Que fantastico!)

See any eggs you’ve never seen before? Know of any not listed?

Ever wonder what it would be like if your favorite sci-fi movies were made into a children’s book? So did Josh Cooley, an animator over at Pixar! When he’s not creating pictures of jumping lamps, he’s drawing these gems

kid books

The Reel Deal

Ah, summertime. Time to toss our coats in the closet, strap on our flip flops, and sweat our gonads off in the heat. Thankfully, there is a welcome respite for the blazing temperatures outside: the cool, refreshing blast of the air conditioner of your local movie theater.

That’s right; its movie season again, folks! I generally see movies come in three seasons: Winter = family movies/movies with so many celebtrities that the poster looks like an Us Weekly cover and movies made from books; Spummer (a hybrid of spring and summer) = action movies and animated movies for all; and Fall: ridiculous sequels/retellings of horror films from the 1970’s.

This “spummer”, there have actually been a lot of movies I have wanted to see. But between tornados, vacations, and Braxton Hicks contractions, I just haven’t been able to see them all. However, there are some that I will NOT be waiting until they hit the Red Box to check out:

1. Monster’s University

I loved Monster’s Inc. And, in my opinion, Pixar movies never disappoint (I’m willing to look over Meet the Robinsons because of the awesomeness that was Toy Story 3). In the latest installment from the peeps with the jumping lamp, we are thrown back in time with our scary friends from Monstropolis: James P. “Sulley” Sullivan and Mike Wazowski. We get to see how these two (now) friends became best buds back in their college days. Not gonna lie; I may go see this without any children to accompany me.

2. The Lone Ranger

Lately it seems like the adage: “Everything old is new again” rings very true for Hollywood. We’ve had a remake of True Grit, Carrie, and Footloose all within the past 4 years. However, I am welcoming this remake with two very wide open arms. And it only has 60% to do with the fact that Johnny Depp is in it. I’m so excited to see what Gore Verbinski is going to do with this American classic!

3. World War Z

I’ve heard mixed reviews about Brad Pitt’s apocalyptic zombie tale. The critics say they expected more. Friends of mine said it was really good. Even my brother-in-law said that he really enjoyed it and it was a little difficult going home to an empty house at night after the movie. Since The Walking Dead hasn’t been on in months, I need something to quench my thirst for human-hungry zombies. Hopefully this will do just that!

4. Now You See Me

I know this one has been out for a while, but I still really want to check it out! I’ll admit, when I first saw the trailer I thought: ‘Huh, I guess magic is the new vampire’. (There were literally about three magician trailers when I saw the one for NYSM.) BUT, a bunch of friends have seen this and said that it was AMAZE-BALLS. I mean, how can it not be? It has The Hulk, Alfred, God, and Columbus!

Have you seen any of these? What did you think?
