Try It Tuesday

Try It Tuesday Coffee

I don’t know about you, but this momma loves her coffee! Honestly, I loved it even before I was a mom! The other day I was really craving a cold coffee drink but A) I didn’t want to pay $7 for something and B) I couldn’t afford it calorie-wise (I’m trying REALLY hard to hit my macros between now and our trip in November). So I decided I’d do a little experimenting!

I brewed some coffee and then poured it into an ice cube tray.

Then I waited for it to freeze (a couple of hours). When the coffee cubes were frozen, I threw about 5 into my blender, along with 1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk, one heaping tablespoon of my favorite protein powder, and two packets of Stevia.

Y’all… this was SO. GOOD. And even though it was right around 100 calories, it still felt like an indulgence without derailing my progress! Woot, woot!

One of my goals for 2018 was to incorporate more veggies into my life. The only drawback with that means I have to BUY produce, which usually doesn’t get eaten and goes bad. Enter today’s Try It!

(Yes, yes, I know…they’re Great Value brand. Huff the Hubs gives me a hard time whenever I buy that brand because he says it isn’t as “up to standards” as other stuff. I say, “Uh, whatever! It’s less expensive so I’m buying it!” Anyway, moving on…)
There’s actually quite a few flavors in these smoothie packs but I chose this one because it had spinach and avocados (healthy greens AND healthy fats!). Each bag comes with four packets that look like this:

All you have to do is throw it in a blender with water, juice, or milk and bam! it’s done! I used 3/4 cup water and 1/4 cup apple juice, just to give it a little extra flavor.

This was actually pretty good! I couldn’t taste the spinach or avocado and it kept me full! Most definitely trying this again!

Try It Tuesday

Try It Cooking Badge 3

Today’s Try It Tuesday is brought to you by the letter “S”.

“S” is for: Sick…which I am.

Technically, I don’t have bronchitis. Though, I keep coughing, my throat is a little tender, and my head hurts every now and then. But other than that, I’m perfectly fine.

But, though I may not be as spritely as I was last week, I am still here to bring you a tasty treat from the {web}pages of Pinterest!

Today’s letter doesn’t just stand for “sick”, but also “smoothie”!

Since I’ve been feeling under the weather–and given the long line at CVS Pharmacy, I figured others were as well–I thought I would do a Try It that is packed with vitamins and good-for-you food!

Here’s what you need:

~V8 Fusion 100% juice (whichever flavor you want; I chose Strawberry Banana because I’ve tried it before and knew I liked it and I chose light because I am still trying to lose a few lbs!)

~baby spinach

~frozen mixed fruit

(In the original pin, the Mommy Blogger uses a larger measurement than I did. This is simply because she made it for herself and her kiddo and her blender is MUCH bigger than mine.)

First, drop the spinach in the blender (I used a cup of spinach). Next, I poured in 3/4 cup juice, and 3/4 cup frozen fruit.

Then I blended it and got this lovely mud-colored concoction:

I transferred it in to my Snackeez (AKA, the greatest invention known to man) because, 1-like Iggy, I’m fancy; and 2-I was able to pour some almonds into the top part for my snacking convenience.

This was DELISH! I couldn’t taste the spinach (which, I used to drink spinach/banana/peanut butter smoothies ALL THE TIME, so I knew the spinach would not be taste-able) AND this entire recipe was only 110 calories! Perfect for a snack and you get a serving and a half of fruits and veggies! Perfect!
