Y’all. I am so over winter. I just can’t hang with these frigid temperatures, ridiculously cold winds, and days on end at home. I truly believe I have a mild case of seasonal affective disorder. Right now, spring seems but a distant dream.

tumblr_inline_mwncvkUpfD1rg0g8s

I just can’t hang with this foolishness. I miss the sun. I miss going outside with my kids (I NEVER thought I’d say that; I’m what you call “indoorsy”). I miss walking out to my car and not having to basically shove tissues up my nose to stop all the running!

I want to take family walks in the neighborhood without the fear of my kids getting hypothermia. I want my hair to stop being so freaking static-y because the air is so dry. And I want to not have to wear layers upon layers of clothing just to walk to the mailbox!

giphy (23).gif

However, don’t–as the kids say–“get it twisted”, though. I am in NO WAY ready for the triple-digit-hotter-than-the-surface-of-the-sun-humidity that is an Oklahoma summer. But dang, man. Is a 70-75 degree day too much to ask?

Sigh.

Until then, I’ll just be over here price-checking flights to the Bahamas.

Happy Friday, nerlings! I hope you’ve been enjoying your summer and applying plenty of SPF 10000 because that’s what you need in the Oklahoma heat! I’ve rounded up some geeky goodies, so gird your loins! It’s about to get a whole lot nerdier up in this piece!

Watching Stranger Things season two made me all nostalgic for a cute little cuddly friend like Dart. Oh, wait… he wasn’t so cuddly, huh? Hmmm… well, Think Geek has made that alien aberration a whole lot snugglier, thank goodness!

kpki_stranger_things_dart_nesting_plush

These cute little guys are actually nesting dolls! They go from pollywog to slug to demodog! Aren’t they precious?

Did you forget Dad last week for Father’s Day? Don’t sweat it! Tell him his gift “got lost in the mail” and quickly order him this awesome Batman-inspired grilling set!

ksgl_batman_3_pc_bbq_tool_set

There’s also a Captain America set and a Wonder Woman set! Because, us ladies like a nice steak, too!

As a kid, I had an irrational fear that there were sharks lurking under the grates in the community pool (thanks a lot, Kid-From-When-I-Was-In-The-Second-Grade for telling me that!). However, this is a shark I could totally swim with:

shark-raft__47235.1526616756

This shark is not one to fear but to float! Its big enough for me to laze around in the pool while also blocking the sun so I can chillax without getting red! Woo!

Now that summer is in full swing, moms everywhere are starting to lose their minds because their kids just have SO. MUCH. FRICKIN’. ENERGY. Seriously, do they EVER stop?! Thankfully, Perpetual Kid has a way to keep them entertained for hours while getting them to use up all that energy!

innflatable_outdoor_rolling_wheel__30738.1527778470.jpgThe great thing about this inflatable roller is that your kiddos can use it in the backyard or in the pool! Think of it as a hamster wheel for your youngins!

Last week, me, my parents, my sister, and my kiddos went on a road trip to Mount Rushmore. At first, I was worried that I would end the trip in a straight jacket.

this is bad

But, it actually turned out to be not that bad! Of course, there were some “I’m-going-to-pull-my-hair-out-if-you-two-don’t-stop-it” moments, but the good times far outweighed the bad and we really enjoyed ourselves!

I’m fully aware that family trips can be downright awful sometimes, so if you’re dreading a road trip coming up or you’ve just returned from one, here’s some funny to make you laugh to keep from crying!

One of the best things about this (besides its super comfortable and modest design) is that the binary coding on it spells “Love”! D’awww…

Maybe you don’t want to go out and instead, you want to have a weekend in! Your pals will definitely thank you for being a friend when you invite them over to play Golden Girls Clue!

Golden Girls Clue

According to ToyWiz.com, this specialty version of Clue “features a custom illustrated game board, where players attempt to solve the crime of WHO ate the last piece cheesecake, WHAT they left at the scene of the crime, and WHICH room they did it in.” When in doubt, blame Blanche!

Or, maybe, you’d rather use this extra-long weekend to just get away from people and spend some time with your fur babies. Why not spoil them with some nerdy cardboard houses from CacaoPets!

Hallelujah, its Friday! Can I get an amen?! I know some folks woke up feeling very distraught because it looks like the UK and the EU are never, ever, ever, getting back together! But don’t fret! I’ve got some nerdy nifties to turn that frown upside down!

It seems like food trucks are everywhere these days! And its not just humans getting in on the street-vending delicacies! Your feathered friends can partake now, thanks to Perpetual Kid!

This Big Book of Awards For Grownups includes citations for being awesome or geeking out about various fandoms! <–Perhaps deserve that one?

Parenting is stressful. One thing that has made it easier (besides locking myself in the bathroom and watching Netflix on the iPad) is the sweet nostalgia of coloring. I’ll admit, I’ve sometimes stolen Huff the Tot’s coloring books for my own, but now I’ve got my sights set on another:

fgf 6-24-26lotr

One coloring book to rule them all! This book includes pictures from the animated movie, Peter Jackson’s trilogy, and artist’s renderings! Eee!

My niece and nephews have a TON of Nerf guns. I’mSO not joking. They probably have two large storage tubs full of ’em. My brother-in-law is a wee bit obsessed. But I’m thinking this NASA engineer has him beat! Check it out:

Mommy Monday

Yesterday was the first official day of summer! Yay! Time for road trips, snow cones, and of course, swimming.

frozen-samme-mejias-6

Whether you go to the lake or your own backyard, water safety is VERY important for you and your brood of Littles. My sister, Samantha, is often referred to as “The Car Seat Nazi”. The girl knows anything and everything you need to know about proper car seat purchasing, installation, care, and car seat laws. (Needless to say I took her along with me when it was time to graduate Huff the Babe into a new carseat). I’m the same way, with water safety. You can just call me, “The Life Jacket Nazi”.

I worked as a lifeguard for six summers throughout high school and college. I loved it! It paid well and the hours were great. The thing I didn’t enjoy though, was the heart-pounding fear when you have to rescue someone from the water. Often, it was little kids that needed retrieval from the water because they had improper gear or didn’t know how to swim.

Consider this a friendly PSA from you neighborhood blogger: get a proper life-saving vest and/or get your kids enrolled in swimming lessons.

So many times, I see kids wearing these abominations:

arm floaties

These are NOT life-saving devices, people. It says so on the frickin’ package in BIG BOLD letters! You can buy these at Dollar Tree for Heaven’s sake! (Not that I have anything against DT; that’s my jam when I’m broke, but if I’m buying something to protect my child, you’d better believe Momma’s paying top-dollar for quality!)

When purchasing a life-jacket or vest, check to make sure it has been approved by the United States Coast Guard (there is typically a big, white patch on the inside of the jacket that states its USCG approved). This ensures that it is in tip-top shape and WILL help prevent drowning. A proper life-jacket or vest looks something like this:

life jackets

Life jackets can only go so far. To help keep your kids safe around the water, teach your children to swim. There is a plethora of places to help your kid learn how to swim as well as learn water safety (at the pool, we’d always say, “Water safety begins on land.”). Your local YMCA, college campuses, and neighborhood pools hold classes every summer and some offer classes throughout the year. (At minimum, teach your child how to float on their backs so if they get into trouble, they can pop up on the backs and call for help!).

As a parent, you also need to know the signs of drowning. Drowning isn’t always screaming for help. There are many different signs you can read about here. It also wouldn’t be a bad idea for at least one parent to be trained in CPR. I firmly believe that one person per household should know how to administer CPR should the need arise. Here’s a link you can visit that will tell you where you can get trained!

I’m totally not trying to poop on your parade; I want everyone to enjoy their summer and have fun! But, I also want to make sure you’re being safe! Do you have any water safety tips? Any recommendations for swimming lessons? Life jackets? Share in the comments below!

It’s finally here, y’all—Friday is back to grace us with its beautiful presence! Holla! And to commemorate this blessed occasion, I’ve collected all kinds of geeky goodies for your pleasure!

Need to protect your belongings? Look no further than this exclusive from Think Geek!

Captain America Backpack

This Captain America-inspire backpack is great for holding all of your stuff that you don’t want falling into Hydra’s hands!

If you’re like Huff the Hubs, you enjoy birthday cards…for about ten seconds. He finds them kind of pointless because they “don’t serve a purpose”. But I think if he received one of these he’d LOVE cards!

DIY Cards

Each wooden card comes with pieces to pop out and construct! The cards come in three different robot shapes!

I am really looking forward to summer. I’m about sick and tired of the May rains we’re experiencing in Oklahoma. I also love food. So this next find warms my heart:

pizza slice pool float

Lounge whilst dreaming of tasty pizza! Best of both worlds, baby!

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Troll dolls. Seriously. I had a collection! (Wow, I was weird kid…) That’s why I need about ten pairs of these adorkable shoes from ModCloth:

troll flats

Trollies may come from acorns, but these shoes are from the nerdy heavens!

Get ready, people, because I’m about to drop some nerd news that’s going to make you flip! Nintendo announced this week that it will be working with Universal Studios to bring the world of Mario to its theme parks!

nintendo theme park

That’s right, people! In a matter of months you could be racing on Rainbow Road or searching for Zelda alongside Link at Universal Studios in Orlando! Its still up in the air what the final plans are/where the Nintendo area of Universal will be, but, rumor is they’ll be taking up the area that formerly held Marvel’s superheroes (because Marvel was bought by Disney, Wolverine and his pals will probably be high-tailing it Cinderlla’s castle soon). Get excited! (Note: the link to the story has NSFW language!)
