Happy Friday, peeps! And what an awesome Friday it is. Not only does this kick off an incredible 3-day weekend BUT Sunday is Geek Pride Day! That’s right people, much like Star Wars Day a few weeks ago, GPD is a day to let your fandom flag fly!

Need some ways to celebrate? Have no fear, The Huffman Post is here!

Did you know that Geek Pride Day was originally supposed to pay homage to the release of Star Wars but shares the date with two other fandom holidays—Towel Day (for Hitchhiker fans) and The Glorious 25th of May (for Discworld fans)? Because there was so much geekdom in one day, it morphed into GPD!And to celebrate the origins, JJ Abrams created a contest that could possibly get YOU on the set of the new Star Wars flick while also helping out UNICEF! Seriously!

Iiiiits Friday!

I’ve spent the majority of the day carbing up for my marathon on Sunday. And let me tell ya…eating is F-U-N! I think I’m going to list it as one of my favorite hobbies on Facebook after today.

I’ve got gobs of geekery to share with you so let’s dive right in!

First, man-oh-man is there a plethora of movie news out about some highly-anticipated films!

We all know Henry Cavill is Superman and Ben Affleck with be donning the cowl in Zac Snyder’s Superman vs. Batman but it looks as though there’s a third party being thrown into the ring! That would be Cyborg–a character first introduced in the comic book back in 1980–who, after a tragic accident, becomes a mechanized superhero! Fun fact: the actor playing Cyborg has also been rumored to be in the next installment of the Star Wars films!

Where my 80’s girls at? get ready to squeal with joy, because  Jem and the Holograms are reuniting! EEEEEEEE! That’s right people, our favorite Hubba Bubba-hued rockstar is making it to the big screen with a live-action movie titled–what else?–Jem and the Holograms!

jem

If the leading lady looks familiar, its probably because you’ve seen her in such gems (pun TOTES intended) as Sharknado and Ace Venture, Pet Detective Jr. Yes. You read that right.

I am counting down the days until the final Hobbit movie makes its debut. However, I may have to re-do the screen print t-shirts I’ve made because P.J. (AKA, Peter Jackson) has decided to change the title from The Hobbit: There and Back Again, to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Yeah. I’m serious.

There’s been a tiny, Daryl-Dixon-shaped hole left in my heart since the season finale of The Walking Dead. And its going to be AT LEAST 6 months until I get to see my favorite crossbow-wielding bad boy crack some zombie skulls. But maybe I can find solace with one of these, and snuggle up to it every night while singing Soft Kitty…

Claimed.

Claimed.

As I’ve said (about a gazillion times) I’m running a marathon this Sunday! My first (and ONLY) marathon. I’ve got everything I need: GU, running shoes, trashbag poncho in case it rains, but I’m missing something else. What am I missing? Earbuds shaped like my spirit animal: Grumpy Cat. Thankfully, Hot Topic is there for me in my hour of need:

I hate running.

I hate running.

Have a great weekend, peeps! And keep your fingers crossed the marathon isn’t a washout!

Fan Girl Friday

This Friday could not have come sooner! I’m so happy that the weekend is here! Although, not too jazzed that I have to run 17 miles tomorrow for marathon training (Bah!).

But, I can turn my frown upside down because I have found some AWESOME things to share with my geeky compadres!

I think I’m going to have to invest in this first find for my niece and nephews:

1a89_kids_zipline_outdoor_fun_inuse

Its a zipline! How awesome is that? It comes with a seat if the rider doesn’t want to hang on the handlebars, is 90 ft. long, AND it holds up to 250 pounds which means adults can join in too!

I’m actually a little upset that Think Geek didn’t have this next find when I was registering for baby gifts! Check it out! Its a Superman diaper bag!

Super Baby!

Super Baby!

The bag comes with an insulated bag to store bottles, a diaper changing pad, and a red terrycloth burp cloth that looks like a cape!

Speaking of babies, there’s an awesome painter that lives in California that is doing great work for some tiny clients. There are many little ones that have to wear helmets to help correct various conditions and Paula Strawn helps to make the helmets a little more decorative. Check out her work!

Call me "Maverick".

And finally….People, its the moment we’ve all been waiting for. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie trailer is finally here! Check it out:

Comic Con: A Recap

You’re all probably sick of me writing about Comic Con. And, if you are, then I have only one thing to say to you:

Now that that’s settled, lets move on.

Comic Con was last week and sadly, I was not there. However I did do a lot of internet searching stalking and found out some awesome tidbits about all the nerdy things I (and many of you) love!

First up, the movies!

Divergent

Tris and Four

Tris and Four

At the Divergent panel, the stars talked about the movie adaptation of one of my new favorite dystopian series. From what I gather around the interwebs, the cast was pretty vague about what was going to happen in the movie/how close to the book it would be. Although Shailene Woodley (AKA, Tris) did say she was excited to see how the scene where Christina is held over the chasm turns out in the final cut!

Catching Fire

Oh yes, JLaw and JHutch were at this year’s SDCC with all the Quarter Quell scoop! I couldn’t find any video of the actual panel, but I’m really hoping that the guy that plays Finnick was there in his net toga. I’m sure the fangirls would’ve went wild! Even if he wasn’t, they surely flip their lids when they saw the NEW trailer for CF! I dare you to not get goosebumps:

Captain America: Winter Soldier

Back off, Black Widow!

Back off, Black Widow!

According to what I’ve read on various geeky sites, the sequel to Captain America is going to be EPIC. We’re going to see Capt. Steve Rogers like we’ve never seen him before. He’s more confident after leading the Avengers in NYC, and is ready to take on anything (except maybe pop culture references that have nothing to do with flying monkeys). And, according to many con-goers, there’s a steamy kissing scene between the Captain and Black Widow. I know a certain sister of mine who is NOT going to be happy about that!

Batman/Superman

Zack Snyder pretending to be Chris Hardwick.

Zack Snyder pretending to be Chris Hardwick.

Oh yes, my friends, the rumors are true. At the Man of Steel panel, director Zach Snyder broke the news that a Batman/Superman flick is in the works and should be released in 2015! Henry Cavill will come back as the wonder boy from Krypton, as will Amy Adams and Diane Lane. The question is now, who will be Batman? Christian Bale has already said he’s hung up the cowl for good, so he will not be returning. My vote? Joseph Gordon Levitt. I really hope they do this right. Maybe Snyder should call up Joss Whedon for some advice…?

And now for the television shows!

The Walking Dead

Hey Rick, how you doin'?

Hey Rick, how you doin’?

OMZ. I am so freaking excited for the new season of The Walking Dead! I actually got to watch the trailer online a few days ago (okay, I’ve watched it like, 4 times now) and I got chills Every. Single. Time. The peeps from the jail are back and have a new sense of survival. Rick’s back from his CrazyTown trip and is finally back to the Rick we know and love. Carl’s hair is still growing and Daryl still looks like the hottest homeless man in the world. Now that the whole Woodbury fiasco is over and done with, the show can get back to the main point of it all: ZOMBIES. Holy crap were there a lot of undead walking around in that trailer! Don’t believe me? Just take a look…

Vampire Diaries

Like a boss.

Like a boss.

This year’s season finale of VD left me going: “OMG!” and “Whaaa—?”

Whilst I was shocked by some of the things that happened (Bonnie dying, Jeremy coming back to life, Katherine becoming human, and Stefan being Silas’ doppelganger, I was also confused. Why would Klaus just up and leave? (Because of the spinoff, duh) And if the hunters are all alive, why can’t Bonnie be alive too? I thought all the supernatural’s were supposed to cross back through the veil…? Anyway, at Comic Con last week the VD panel showed a new trailer for this season and I am so stoked! I remember when I went to Comic Con and on preview night, we got to see the first episode of the show. I looked over at my sister when the credits rolled and said: “Um, we HAVE to watch this!”

link this to Johnny Galecki:

Big Bang Theory

From what I gathered, the panel for TBBT was supposed to just be writers…not really something you get too worked up about. But, in true Comic Con fashion, there were a few surprises to be revealed. Melissa Rauch (AKA Bernadette) stepped out to a roar of applause when introduced as the panel’s moderator. When Rauch opened the panel up for questions from the audience, someone dressed as Boushh (AKA Princess Leia’s alter ego in Return of the Jedi) with mask and all, Rauch exclaimed: “Reveal yourself!” To which the Boushh impersonator took off his helmet and replied: “Someone who loves you!” It was none other than Dr. Hofstadter himself, Mr. Johnny Galecki! The crowd of course went wild and Johnny joined the panel of writers. When the audience members asked what we could see in season 7, the writers threw them a bone: we’ll see Leonard on the ship working with Stephen Hawking’s crew, Amy and Bernadette are going to take a trip sans Penny, and when asked if Amy and Sheldon would ever take their relationship to the next level (nudge, nudge; wink, wink) the writer’s said: “It’s a very good possibility!” *Cue the middle school “Ooooooh”s! The panel concluded with a very special (and funny) video from Stephen Hawking:
