Today’s FGF is a simple, solemn one. Today we remember a pop culture icon: Leonard Nimoy.
Rest in peace, Mr. Spock.
Get excited, people! Its the first Fan Girl Friday of the New Year! And I am NOT holding back for the inaugural FGF of 2015!
Huff the Hubs and Brock the Brother-In-Law are OBSESSED with tabletop games. Catan, Risk, Pathfinder; you name it, they love it! Which reminds me of another guy…
And speaking of Ben “The Maverick” Wyatt, his fictitious game is about to become a reality! That’s right, The Cones of Dunshire will soon be available for purchase!
Everyone knows that I am a huge bibliophile. Well, maybe not as much as my sister. Which is why I’m kicking myself for not seeing this sooner! It would’ve been the BEST Christmas present for her!
You can snuggle up with a good book and this comfy back support and read until your eyes go blurry!
As I type this blog post, I’m wearing my Gryffindor sweat pants and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is playing in the background. To say I’m obsessed would be an understatement. Which is why when I saw the instructions for a DIY Hogwarts Express, I did a nerd squeal!
Isn’t this awesome?! Just click the link and you’ll be able to download instructions for your very own train! Now you have a purpose for all of those leftover boxes from Christmas!
Have you always wanted an action figure of yourself, but scared that you’d have the same outcome as Howard and Raj? Well fear no more, Think Geek has you covered! The creative minds over at TG just released new kits for you to create your own action figure!
You can paint them to look like yourself or your favorite comic book hero(ine)! And, while you’re perusing the TG site, check out their clearance! They’ve got AH-MAY-ZING deals!
It’s Friday, people! By this time next week we’ll all be waking up from our turkey comas and trying to scrape together bail money for that one aunt who punched a man for the last $1.99 DVD at the Black Friday sale. Ah, family.
But before you get frantic over family and food, take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy all the geeky goodness I have to share!
You guys. Are you sitting down? If not, do it now. Are you sitting? Good. Lego recently announced six new sets coming to stores next year and three of them are from two of our favorite fandoms!
Oh yes, you heard that right! The Big Bang Theory AND Doctor Who will be getting their own Lego sets! I am seriously geeking out over here! I have already posted these bad boys on my Christmas 2015 list on Amazon!
Speaking of toys, you know I have a deep love for the girls’ line called GoldieBlox. They encourage young girls to get excited about engineering, physics, and other areas of science. While I sometimes think that their marketing may ruffle a few feathers (shamimg girls for liking princesses is sort of like shaming girls for not liking them, amiright?) I do think that their heart is in the right place by wanting to help the fields of math and science be more than a boys club. Here is their new ad:
What do you think? And if it looks familiar, here’s why.
This has been a great week for movie trailers! Especially from Disney! Check out two, all-new trailers from the House of Mouse:
And speaking of movies, I saw The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 last night and It. Was. AH-MAY-ZING! Seriously. I think this is the BEST one so far! The acting was great, the effects were so superb I fought back tears multiple times, and the sets totally blew what I had pictured out of the water! Even though I’ve read the book three times, my heart pounded, I covered my eyes, and hoped upon hope that things would work out (even though I knew the ending). Plus, J.Law’s rendition of The Hanging Tree was ON. POINT.
It’s the last Friday in May, people! This year is just FLYING by! Seems like only yesterday I was blogging about Christmas! Well, today is going to feel like Christmas with all the nerdy neatos I’ve rounded up for you!
There has been crazy nostalgia hitting the Twitter-sphere! Two of my favorite show’s casts have reunited this week!
First, the cast of the cancelled-too-soon cult classic, Freaks and Geeks:
And, to celebrate The Wonder Years DVDs being released, the Arnold family got together for a photo shoot in their old TV home!
Looking for something to do this weekend? I’ve got just the thing! Call up a couple of friends and play Sheldon’s favorite game! No, not “Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock”—Three-Person Chess! The geniuses over at Think Geek have perfected a circular board so more pals can move their pawns for hours of fun!
Did you see the teaser trailer for the new season of Doctor Who that popped up recently? It doesn’t give too much away…just a couple of shots of Peter Capaldi looking totally bad-a in the Tardis, but still! It got my Whovian heart pumping and ready for August! And, in memory of my favorite Doctor (and the only episode that made me cry like a baby) I think I may need to buy this tee to wear during the premiere!
They are the responsible older sibling to the awesome and carefree Saturday and Sunday. Mondays just can’t wait to suckerpunch us all with an annoying wake up call before the sun rises and a stressful trek to work.
Thankfully, there’s awesome blogs, ahem, to help you get through it all.
I’m sure you’ve all heard the news: Hostess is going out of business. If you’re like me, you’re reaction was something like this:
But, don’t digress yet, Twinkie lovers. There may be hope on the horizon! According to the Los Angeles Times, at a bankruptcy court hearing Judge Robert Drain persuaded Hostess to attend mediation with the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International union leaders. Hopefully this will preserve 18,000 jobs AND kept your Ding Dongs safe (he he he…).
Did you watch the American Music Awards? Don’t feel bad, I didn’t either. But, apparently those that watched got a real treat! Korean singer, PSY of Gangnam Style fame, performed lip-synched and danced to his hit and then brought out a special guest….MC Hammer.
I’m glad MC could take time from his, um, his uh….What’s he doing nowadays? Anyway, glad he got work for the night.
And finally, another musical snack for all you Big Bang Theory lovers out there. All last week on Twitter, Kaley Cuoco was teasing that she had “something special” for everyone. And on Friday she shared what it was! The entire cast and crew did a flash mob for unsuspecting creator and director, Chuck Lorre, to Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe!
Kaley’s got some sweet moves! She said on Facebook that her sister choreographed the whole thing! How awesome is that?
I am so glad its fall.
The leaves are changing; the house fills with the spicy aroma of pumpkin-filled treats; and best of all, MY TV SHOWS ARE BACK!
Yes, its the time of year when the magical black box in my living lets me have a fly-on-the-wall view into the lives of my favorite fictional friends. I am so excited for this new season. And even though some have already begun, I’ll give you a run-down on what will be showing in the Huffman Home this fall:
1. How I Met Your Mother
I honestly hope this is the last season. After a seventh season of Ted still pining after Robin and Barney still womanizing, and still not GETTING TO SEE THE FREAKING MOTHER, I was about ready to call it quits. But those clever producers hooked me when I heard through the blogosphere that next season will most likely be the final season. Now I feel like I have to see it all the way through. It’d be like me eating almost all the Pringles, but still having three left in the can… you can’t just stop. Eat the whole thing!
2. Once Upon A Time
I was a little skeptical about how this show could keep going after the main problem of the first season was resolved in the season finale. At first I was like, “Oh, well that was a nice movie that lasted for six months.” But, when I watched the season premiere last week, I was excited to see that the magical mystery tour of Storybrooke was just beginning! I’ve heard that many more favorite fairy tale characters are going to join the cast (Mulan, Sleeping Beauty, Captain Hook) and I can’t wait to see how the writers put a new spin on the classics!
3. The Vampire Diaries
After last season’s cliffhanger (at which point I said, “OMG, finally!”) I was counting down the days until October 11th! I love this show so much. Not necessarily because of the whole vampire thing (the are so 2010) but because the season starting will bring even more shirtless Ian Somerholder into my life. And I think everyone could use a little more of that.
4. The Big Bang Theory
Who didn’t shed a tear when Howard and Bernadette got married last season? I mean, this little creepy candy-coated engineer finally got the woman of his dreams (and it wasn’t Katee Sackhoff). Now that Bernie and Howie (and his mother) are riding off into the sunset, where does this leave poor little Raj? And what about Penny and Leonard? I swear, if they break up again, I will go to L.A. myself and kick Chuck Lorre in the molecules. He could, however, redeem himself by having Amy and Sheldon make out. Come on, Chuck, Amy needs some sugar.
5. Doctor Who
Sadly, the season for Doctor Who has already come and gone just like the Ponds. (Sidebar: I’m going to miss the Ponds. Not necessarily because of Amy, but because of Rory. He really was the epitome of the sweet boy next door.) Those Brits really like to tease us as much as they can by whetting our appetites for these shows (a la Sherlock) and then taking them away from us for months on end. Le sigh. I’m already counting down the days to the Christmas Special.
What about you? What fall shows are you looking forward to the most?
