Fan Girl Friday!

Fan Girl Friday New Background1

Happy Friday, nerdlings! Anyone nursing wounds from the fiasco that was Build-A-Bear Pay Your Age Day?! I went out yesterday and it was IN-FREAKING-SANE. And no, we didn’t get a bear. But we did eat cheesecake after we left the mall, so, who’s the real winner here? To take your minds off of not snagging an amazing deal on the furry friends, I’ve rounded up some awesomely geek-tastic news and merch sure to fill the bear-shaped hole in your heart!

The Huffmans will be making the trek out to the House of Mouse in Florida this fall and I think Huff the Tot and I need a pair of these magically magnificent shoes!

Cinderella-Toms-Disney-Collection-750x1125

Shoemaker TOMs has partnered up  with Disney to create a new line of princess-inspired flats for women and kids! The shoes feet-ure (hey oh!) original sketches from the archives at Disney studios! Cinderella, Aurora, and Snow White will all have their own lines, each releasing this summer! SQUEE!

A few weeks ago, I told you about how Lego is releasing a series of Harry Potter minifigs. But what I didn’t tell you was the Lego is also releasing new HP sets as well! They’re all amazing and I want each one!

I mean, the Whomping Willow set?! YES, PLEASE! For more info, click here!

I absolutely love Lord of the Rings and anything Tolkien-related, so when I heard that Middle Earth was coming back to the small screen, I couldn’t contain my excitement!

According to Variety, the new series will take place before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring, and mostly center around a young Aragorn! Amazon is set to stream the multi-season show and will be working alongside The Tolkien Trust to ensure the show is up to par!

I seriously feel like one of the most underrated Disney movies is The Emperor’s New Groove. The spoiled Kuzko getting turned into a llama and voiced by David Spade? Come on, people! Its comedy gold! Which is why I am loving this new throw blanket from Hot Topic:

The tapestry-inspired blanket includes pictures of llama Kuzko, kitten Yzma, and the adorable little squirrel friend of Kronk! Just be sure to put your name on it or write “No Touchy!” on the back!

Happy fangirling!

Try It Wednesday

So, this week you’re getting a two-for! Yep, that’s right, I’m doing another Try It!

This is for two reasons: 1., I couldn’t think of anything to blog about today and 2., I really wanted to try this!

Before Huff the Hubs and I went to London, I went shopping for some cute canvas shoes. I wanted comfortable walking shoes that were also cute (and not as expensive as TOMs). So I hit up Payless and got these!

I really liked how they felt on my feet and plus, I thought they were super cute. And, since they’re beige, they go with basically every outfit I was planning on taking on the trip. Unfortunately, since they’re beige, they get dirty fast. Especially when you take the Underground and dirt is kicked up from the rails. (Seriously. At the end of the day, we’d blow our noses and it was black. TMI, but now you get the picture).

So my cute new shoes looked like this after a week in London:

Tisk, tisk.

Tisk, tisk.

Thankfully, I found a video that helped me get them clean!

All I needed was:

~a toothbrush

~a bowl of 1/4 cup water

~1/4 cup baking soda

~detergent

~washing machine

Tricks of the trade. (Not pictured: washing machine)

First, I took the toothbrush and wiped it over the dirtiest parts of the shoes, getting rid of the tougher clumps of dirt and such. Then, I poured 1/4 cup baking soda into a bowl with 1/4 cup water. I mixed up the paste and scrubbed the bottom of my shoes (just to help get all that muck off so it wouldn’t be in my washing machine) and the sides of the sole.

Then, I started the washing machine. I turned it to a cold wash on the gentle cycle. I let it fill up 1/4 of the way and poured in my detergent (if your shoes are really yucky, you can pretreat before this step). Then, when the machine was 3/4 of the way full, I dropped in my shoes.

Twenty minutes later, voila! My shoes came out, looking clean and pretty:

Pretty shoes!

Pretty shoes!

The video recommended I place my shoes outside, not indoors on a vent or with a blow dryer. This is so the shoes wouldn’t shrink. However, its been really rainy lately AND there are construction workers EVERYWHERE doing cleanup from the May 20th tornado, I just knew they’d get dirty again. So they’re drying inside on a towel.

You may not be able to tell much of a difference since you’re looking at it from a photo, but trust me. In person, they look SUPER clean and so much better! So if your TOMs, Keds, or Payless specials are looking a little dingy, toss ’em in the washer! Its Huffman Post approved!
