Even though “swimsuit season” is over, I’m wanting to get back into shape (I’ve let myself slack off A LOT lately) and get back some of my strength that I’ve lost but I also needed a workout that wouldn’t take too long because, let’s face it, its tough to wake up early so a workout I could do in the short time Huff the Babe naps in the afternoon is ideal. I looked on my Pinterest board and decided to try out one of the many workouts I’ve pinned but never tried! I scoped out wheat I had and settled on this one:

I thought to myself, “Eh, this can’t be too hard, right? The website said it would take 30 minutes and I’m pretty fit. I can do this.”

BRUH. It was tough. By the time I made it to the burpees I was like, “Yeeeeaaahhh… not doing that.” Thankfully, it didn’t take thirty minutes to complete, it only took fifteen! But LAWD, it was a rough fifteen minutes! Check out my stats from my FitBit:

Now I’m sticking to the Jillian 30 Day Shred (I’m on Day 27!) and then I’ll kick it up a notch with another workout. But this is a great way to burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time!

I’m still working on shedding those last few pounds I’m still carrying from having Huff the Babe (yes, he’s two and a half; no, I don’t think I should have lost this a long time ago) but it gets a little frustrating to stay within my macros–especially in the summer heat–when I just really want some ice cream to chow down and cool off. Thankfully, I found a great dessert that won’t bust my macros and actually tastes good!

keto-chocolate-frosty

I found this delicious dessert from the site Hip 2 Keto, which has a ton of Keto Diet-friendly recipes and food ideas! Here’s what the recipe called for:

IMG_0679

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1 tablespoons almond butter

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

5 drops liquid Stevia (I would actually use Splenda; the Stevia didn’t “sweeten” it that much and it was a wee bit bitter)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

First, mix up all the ingredients in a small bowl until soft peaks form. This took me about 2-3 minutes.

Then, place your mixture in the freezer for about 30 minutes to an hour. You want it to be *just* on the edge of freezing without being completely frozen. Then, remove from the freezer, stir, and place your mixture into a gallon size, zip top bag. Cut the corner off and pipe the frozen treat into three cups, distributing evenly.

Then, enjoy!

This was pretty good! It was a little bitter for my taste, but Huff the Hubs really liked it! I added some fat free whipped topping to mine and it helped the taste IMMENSELY! If you’re wondering, here are the nutrition facts for the “frosty”:

Eating healthy on-the-go can sometimes be very frustrating and overwhelming: “What should I eat? Where can I get something that tastes good and has good-for-me stuff? What can I eat one-handed because I know I’ll be multitasking while I eat!”

I can answer all of those questions with today’s Try It!

IMG_9866

This little packet is full of organic, good-for-you stuff and you can totally eat it one-handed AND its available at Walmart! Plus, its REALLY tasty!

Here’s the stats on this snack:

momma chia

This specific packet has organic strawberry, banana, and beet puree along with chia seeds (which give that kick of Omega-3s)! I ate this as I was driving around with the kids the other day and it was incredibly satisfying and super yummy! I bought a few more to keep on hand!

For a while now, every time I go the grocery store I see a weird-looking fruit and *almost* buy it, but end up walking on past it because I was too scared to try it out. Saturday, I finally decided to just bite the bullet–er, I mean dragonfruit!

IMG_9829

I read a little about this strange fruit and saw that its packed full of fiber, Vitamin C, and antioxidants! I sliced it up and gave it a try!

IMG_9841

The texture reminded me of a kiwi, but it really didn’t have much of a flavor. So I guess I like it…? It might be good in a smoothie with fruits with more strong flavors since its fairly bland but packs a nutritious punch!

favorite are the nacho cheese https://www.questnutrition.com/collections/quest-chips/products/nacho-cheese-tortilla-style-protein-chips

Trying to eat healthy and lose weight can be such a drag sometimes. You can only eat kale and chia seeds for so long, am I right? And when you’re trying to up your protein intake but want something that’s NOT jerky? Ugh, fuggetaboutit. Thankfully, I found something yummy that will also help me hit my protein goals!

IMG_9400

Oh yes, those are PROTEIN chips! Quest Nutrition actually has FIVE different flavors! I’ve tried three so far: cheddar & sour cream, BBQ, and nacho cheese! Just take a look at these stats:

I paired mine with a Chick-Fil-A Chicken Club sandwich (sans bun) and it was the PERFECT meal!

Out of the three flavors I have tried, the nacho cheese are my favorite, but that’s because they tasted fairly close to Doritos!

If you’re a regular reader, you know I’ve struggled with anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for a while. I’ve tried a lot of different things to help keep it under control and honestly, I feel like I’ve made A LOT of progress over the years. There are some days, however, that I feel very anxious and that feeling will sometimes lead to panic attacks. Many times I can come back down from an attack with a simple breathing routine or self-talk. Other times I need an outside source (e.g., medication) to help calm the physiological symptoms of the attack so I can focus on the psychological part. I’ve been trying to not take medications like Xanax and have been wanting to try more natural avenues. The other day when I was at the health food store, I came across this:

IMG_9258

Each little chocolate piece is packed with magnesium (a nutrient that is important to not only physical health, but mental health), L-theanine (an amino acid commonly found in green tea) and chamomile (I actually used to drink a cup of chamomile tea every night to help me sleep!). Intrigued, I bought it to test it out. About a week or so later, I had a very stressful and overwhelming day. I felt myself getting shaky and knew a panic attack was coming. I remember the little box in the cabinet and ate two little chocolate pieces. It actually helped calm me down! I was able to not focus on the overwhelming parts of the day and focus on what I needed to get done!

Now, am I saying that those of us with anxiety diagnoses should throw out the medications we have, not consult our doctors, and just down a bunch of this stuff? No.

Am I saying that I tried and it helped me? Yes.

Everybody is different and every body is different. It very well could have no effect on you. It also very well could. So, consult your doctor before trying it out.

Personally, I felt like it helped me and is a good alternative for me.
