Try It Tuesday

Even though “swimsuit season” is over, I’m wanting to get back into shape (I’ve let myself slack off A LOT lately) and get back some of my strength that I’ve lost but I also needed a workout that wouldn’t take too long because, let’s face it, its tough to wake up early so a workout I could do in the short time Huff the Babe naps in the afternoon is ideal. I looked on my Pinterest board and decided to try out one of the many workouts I’ve pinned but never tried! I scoped out wheat I had and settled on this one:

I thought to myself, “Eh, this can’t be too hard, right? The website said it would take 30 minutes and I’m pretty fit. I can do this.”

BRUH. It was tough. By the time I made it to the burpees I was like, “Yeeeeaaahhh… not doing that.” Thankfully, it didn’t take thirty minutes to complete, it only took fifteen! But LAWD, it was a rough fifteen minutes! Check out my stats from my FitBit:

Now I’m sticking to the Jillian 30 Day Shred (I’m on Day 27!) and then I’ll kick it up a notch with another workout. But this is a great way to burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time!

Last week, I decided to go “low carb” for the week. My weight loss had been plateau-ing for a while and I was getting frustrated. Plus, I’ve been doing this get fit summer challenge from Buzzfeed and was starting to see the scale creep up (because lifting weights is a hunger-inducing business, y’all).

Anyway, I needed to find some way to still have some treats while I was abstaining from carbs. And praise The Lord, I found this!

They’re low-carb peanut butter cookies! Here’s what you need:

IMG_2525

~1 cup peanut butter (I used Jif Omega-3)

~1 cup Splenda (you could use Stevia if you like but it’s a little bitter for my taste)

~1 egg

That’s it! That’s all you need!

Preheat your oven to 350*. Then, toss everything into a bowl and combine.

Scoop out about a tablespoon onto a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet. I used a cookie scoop and it worked wonders! Then, dip a fork in Splenda and press down the dough rolls.

Pop them in the oven for 12 minutes, and then let them cool.

Then, devour!

OMG, y’all, these cookies were DELICIOUS! They really helped me get through those cravings when I really wanted something sweet. And, to be honest, the low-carb thing wasn’t that bad. I mean, there was one day I really wanted some waffle fries from Chick-Fil-A, but for the most part, it went well. I think part of that was because I had a cold and it sort of took my appetite away. But it helped! I lost 3lbs and an inch off my waist! Yay!

Happy Friday, all!

I’ve found some squee-worthy finds this week, so let’s jump right in!

A certain movie came out last weekend about a shoe-losin’ Disney princess. We all know she lived happily ever after, but did you know she has mad rap skillz, yo? Check out Sara Michelle Gellar as Cinderella in this epic princess rap battle!

Ever since Mockingjay: Part One was released on DVD, I have been ITCHING for trailers/info/pictures for MJP2. And even though this teaser gives NOTHING away, it still gave me chills! I dare you to not get goosebumps!

You guys. Remember how movies were made about things from our childhood and most of them were total crap? Well fear no more, children of the 80’s! Someone’s got our back for a MAJOR project about to hit the Henson Company!

jgl

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to star in and produce a live-action Fraggle Rock movie! Cue the Kermit arm flails! According to Variety, the reason JGL wants to make this movie (which has been in the works for nearly a decade) is because he’s a HUGE Henson fan! Fraggle Rock: “The first screen personas I ever loved were Henson creations, first on ‘Sesame Street,’ and then on ‘Fraggle Rock,’” Gordon-Levitt said. “Jim Henson’s characters make you laugh and sing, but they’re also layered, surprising, and wise. From Oscar the Grouch, to Yoda, to the Fraggles. I’ve never stopped loving his work, even as a young frisky man, and on into adulthood…I’m grateful and excited to be working with New Regency on this project.”

Today is the first day of spring, and you know what that means: your Facebook newsfeed is about to be blowing up with people doing marathons, 5K’s, and crazy zombie runs! And I’ll be one of them! I just signed up for my first color run and I am so excited! Maybe I need to get me one of these fandom workout shirts to train in…?

Try It Tuesday

Normally my Try Its are tasty treats or helpful tips for around the house. Which, are always a lot of fun (I mean, who doesn’t want to try a brownie baked with a chocolate chip cookie crust?!) but, I thought I’d think outside of the box this week!

Fitness is a big part of my life–I’m not trying to be “Mrs. Fitness 2015”, but I like to workout. I typically work out 4-5 times a week, switching up cardio and strength training.

I’m always looking for new routines to keep my regimen fun and fresh. Enter the following video.

This video is LEGIT. Its tough. Don’t believe me? Just watch (<– that’s a pun you’ll get in a second).

My sister and I (and Huff the Hubs) tried this. It was…interesting. There were a few moves I had done before in P90X and Jillian’s 30-Day Shred, but some of the moves were down right HARD!

We were all a little sore the next day, but it was a “good” kind of sore; like you knew it was working because you were sore.

My sister said her new fitness goal is try to do the entire workout without stopping. I think I’ll take that goal on, too!

Have you tried any new workouts? What have you tried? What do you like about it? What do you not like?

Marathon Training Update/Running Playlist

So, as you may know, I decided to run the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon this year as part of my 30 by 30 list.

When I first started training, I was like, “Oh yeah! I GOT this!” and was super excited and energetic.

lets get down to business

But now that I’m halfway through with training, I’m starting to wonder why I signed up for this thing in the first place. Waking up at 6:00 a.m. on Saturdays to run long distances and then dealing with the constant exhaustion (and inability to stop eating…seriously, marathon training makes you hungry ALL. THE. TIME.)

i hate this running

But, I know that it’ll be all worth it in the end when I get that medal and that green shirt that says “Finisher” on the back! So I’ve got to keep going. And nothing helps get me pumped up more than my running playlist!  If you’re starting on a goal to run this year, be it a marathon, half marathon, 5K, whatevs, I thought I’d share the tunes that psyche me up during the hours of grueling runs.

Tell the World — Eric Hutchinson

Upbeat and peppy, this song actually makes me smile when I run.

Bootylicious — Destiny’s Child

Since having a baby, I jiggle a lot more when I run now. Which, thanks to Beyonce and the girls, I’m not ashamed about!

Fighter–Christina Aguilera

This totally makes me feel like I could karate chop someone without missing a beat on my run.

Roar — Katy Perry

I’ve got the eye of the Tiger, a fighter, dancin’ through the fire.

Get the Girl Back — Hanson

Because reasons.

Bad Blood — Neil Sedaka

Again, because reasons.

Go Your Own Way — Fleetwood Mac

The rolling beat on this keeps me going!

Kings and Queens — Audio Adrenaline

OMG. Watch this video and try not to cry. And also try not to let it inspire you to keep going even though you want to give up.

Do you have any songs that amp you up for a run?
